    Hi again Tom, I think you could also add videos on how your setup and swing techniques etc can help golfers to hit the ball extremely straight. The assistant pro I played with today was amazed at how straight I hit my driver, fwds and irons. I put my foot right in my mouth when I mentioned I got everything from Tom Saguto on the internet (that's where you live). I forgot that was money out of his pocket.

    I have to say Tom, your tips have helped my game tremendously! I have put in a lot of hours at the range tweaking my swing with all of the adjustments you swear by. In 3 months, I have gone from an 18 to a 15 handicap (and continuing to lower) and getting an extra 20-30+ yards on my irons with full, confident swings. My “shank rate” has decreased from roughly 30% to less than 10%. I have watched numerous other RUclips golf instructors, but your simple swing techniques have made the biggest difference in my game. I have always loved golf (even when I shot horribly inconsistent) and I love it even more now with the consistency I have found with your tips. Thank you!!

    Beginner here, I went from 200 carry to 225 by opening up. Still getting used to to motion in the transition from back set to ball strike by keeping arms straight. Looks like my biggest issue is timing it up. I've noticed I'm turning slightly to early before the strike and it's causing me to pull it left. I'm considering joining your online program but not sure. I'm more of hands on learning over watching and trying. Keep up the great work. Ppl out here like me need you, your explanations are point on and easier to comprehend over the lessons I've been taking

      I'm glad to learn of your progress!
      With regard to keeping your arms straight, to be clear the "feel" is straight arms. Of course, the wrists hinge and the trail arm folds to 90 degrees, but as long as you keep your upper arms attachments intact and entrust the motion to the big muscles, these actions should happen on autopilot. Here are a couple of recent lessons on this:

    Saw this video and took it to the driving range. Not only did it add some distance (sure that will improve) but it also helped to eliminate a pull that I had developed which had me aiming way left of my target to compensate (I’m a lefty). The next day my drives were splitting the fairways and I hit 10 of 18 greens in regulation, 2 just off the green, 3 traps and 3 mis-hits…..now if I could only have made some putts ( was leaving them all a bit short).

It took me a while to convince myself but after being long on a few holes with a club that I would have normally hit middle of the green, it was time. Now just have to get consistent with my alignment and the putts are starting to fall…..I can feel something big happening soon!

    Great video. Moved from around 220 to around 250. As simple as that. I was too much focused on lower down my left shoulder, as soon as I stopped thinking about my left shoulder and focused on letting the button up then it was like a deliverance and the shots went off on their own and much further. This video and the one about keeping the right arm higher than the left one in the take away have totally changed my game. Went from scoring around 95 to 85 in just a couple of games. Thank you some much.

      This is why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, structured, step-by-step learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result (and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews ). That was some beautiful shot making right there Mr. Crispy. I'm trying my best to get more consistent crispness, at 64 I'm having a hard time keeping my left arm straight in my backswing like you do.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 года назад +6

      I appreciate that, Kenny!
      A significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.
      With regard to keeping the lead arm relatively straight - which is very important for consistency - it all begins with a good foundation. Having both feet flared out approximately 20 degrees with the knees similarly angled outward are prescribed setup features of the swing system I teach. This orientation provides for an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, at which point we only need to add another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees. That makes it much easier to keep the arm straight as we are then not fighting our body, and the result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, repeatable, powerful swing.
      Should you wish to give this swing a fair shot by learning it properly, please consider enrolling in my online school. For just $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning system for the full swing and much more. The school's intuitive curriculum greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, plus there’s so much more guided instruction courses and content on the many other aspects of the game. Tom with your system with irons I went out and shot a 82 and only using 5 irons and higher (6,7,8,9,pw). I was kfcing the the irons but at the end of the day I was beat. Wasn't using the driver because I probably wasn't during the buttons and was spinning out to early. I'm will give it a try because I hate when the ball feels like a rock and flairs to the right. It's like being in the desert for 40 years. Thanks Tom

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  5 месяцев назад

      That's some really good playing using just those irons, Bob - nice job!! 💪💪
      It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
      Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

    Everything has been coming along since I've started following you. Struggling with the driver still so hoping the range opens soon at my course so I'm not trying to learn on every tee shot 😂

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад +1

      I'm glad to learn of your continued improvement, Kurt!
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver - which is quite normal early in the swing change process as a golfer gets used to applying the weight-forward concept to the fairway woods and driver - it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack.
The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address.
      As mentioned, this is a common issue that I am regularly asked to fix, so if yours doesn't relate to any of the above causes - or if it does and you are experiencing difficulty resolving it - we can always arrange for an online coaching session through the saguto.golf site. Also, the online school will provide the tools you need to start mashing the driver.
      Keep up the great work!

    People mistake “extension”, with standing up out of posture. With proper extension, your right side obliques will feel a stretch, at the top, and your left side will feel crunched. This is called left side bend, and it’s what allows you to stay in posture, and keep your spine inclination(or tilt) during your backswing. Same goes for downswing…. Through impact, you should feel left side extension, and right side bend through the hitting area. Great video…. This isn’t talked about enough, and it’s sooooo important. Just remember…. Don’t get that left side extension, and right side bend, by just sliding your hips forward, and leaning back(downswing). You MUST be rotating to make it work. I think keeping your head fairly centered is a good way to feel it correctly. I read over this, after I typed it. I think I just described stack n tilt. lol

    Hey Tom - awesome tip as usual but just an observation that might help others. When focusing on the buttons to the sky I found myself pulling the club inside which took the swing sideways in a hurry and I started shanking and mis-hitting everything. Make sure when doing this drill to keep the “bucket” up and more upright and your buttons will still get there.

    • @SagutoGolf

      The key, Brian, is to not lose our relationship with the ball. In other words, if we keep that lead shoulder working down as we extend (buttons to the sky), we'll be in a great and powerful position at the top. So yes - use whatever feel or imagery you need to achieve this and you'll be on the path to crispy ball striking bliss!

    From what I know and what my coach tells me im doing almost everything right in the golfswing right now but the ball is going almost 50yards shorter than it did last year and I look at my swing back then which still was great but not even close to this good. I swear it has to be with my clubs or something they must have gotten like grass inside the clubhead. Cause I have gotten around 8mph faster clubheadspeed with my 7iron which now is around 99mph but the ball still doesnt even come close to my old distances. Old distance with 7iron was around 180-190 stock now I cant seem to hit it further than 165 a single time. Well idk I still got regular shafts in my irons im not sure how many mph u need to have a stiff one that might be the problem idk?

    This makes sense to get more extension. How do you describe getting that extension while keeping your arms close to your body. Elbows in and not flying all over the place. I'm close but a bit conflicted.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад +1

      There's no conflict at all, Rodney. We still preserve our connections with the arms. We are just simply allowing the spine to extend and thereby unlock the upper body. The arms, hands, and club can then just "go along for the ride" in a very powerful motion driven by the big muscles.
      By the way, is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing. Tom, are the iron and driver swings the same?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      It is essentially the same swing with every club, Gary; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some driving range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html
      I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver.
      For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. However, as I routinely say, let your ball striking quality and shot shape consistency be your guide.
      Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. The reason a lot of golfers get "cooped up" is because we're told to "tilt" and turn. The tilt can be overdone and result in a restricted swing. Look at Freddie Couples' swing and it's clear that he's not hunched over at all. Anyway, the "tilt" thing can be way overdone.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 года назад

      The vast majority of amateurs are deficient in the tilt component. They lose their relationship with the ground, thus resorting to flattening out the shoulders and independently lifting the club with the hands and arms. From there any hope for consistency is fleeting at best. If one were to simply follow Arnold Palmer's favorite tip of pointing the lead shoulder to the ball at the top of the backswing they would have the proper amount of tilt, while also taking care of the turning and extending motions at the same time. ruclips.net/video/Jl_4vopx3xA/видео.html

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  11 месяцев назад +2

      The two are certainly not mutually exclusive as you can keep your trail arm "tucked" while also extending the spine (which is what is happening when you "open the chest").
      I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 года назад

      The extension component referred to in this video has to do with extending the spine - the "buttons to the sky" feel. As for the arms, just keep them as straight as you can, and don't try to go beyond the body's natural stopping point in the backswing - that's when things tend to break down.
      The swing system I teach is a very body-friendly method. Beyond my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, this is supported by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.

      Consider the following potential causes: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention.

    I am a 77 year old and hit my driver 205 but after watching your video I am driving 220+, feels great and my Iron play is steady and improved by 15 yards. Thank you. I am enjoying my golf very much as I rarely duff my shots.

      PS: By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.
      If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner.
      Yes - this swing system is golf's version of the Fountain of Youth, and the results speak for themselves. 😎

    So... some golf vid popped up in my feed, started watching it. 30 seconds later he's all over the place with all these things to do.
    I did the responsible thing, typed in Saguto Driver.. any vid will do. Helps to DELETE DELETE DELETE that last vid I briefly watched LOL.

      LOL!!
      Seriously, though - with regard to watching different videos from different sources, please be careful in navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. That is not a dig against any other teachers out there. It's simply best to commit to a system - whether it be this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance method or another - put your blinders on, and stick to it.
      By the way, did I mention this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance method?.....😎
