Cultivating Change: A Conversation on Biodiversity & Design

Mexican designer Fernando Laposse's acclaimed practice focuses on material investigations that center humankind’s relationship to nature, and, in particular, the importance of reviving biodiverse ecosystems and the social and environmental implications of local farming and global consumptive practices. On the occasion of Design Miam/2023-and the debut of The Pollination Dance, Laposse’s new, poetic collaboration with Maison Perrier-Jouët-Laposse sits down with Perrier-Jouët’s Axelle de Buffévent, renowned maize genetics expert Denise Costich, and Friedman Benda’s Jennifer Olshin to discuss the intersection of design and biodiversity-including the issue’s urgency, design’s potential to cultivate change, and the role that all living species play within the larger ecosystem.
