Queer Spaces

What defines a queer space? And how have architects-both past and present-harnessed their discipline to create built environments that serve, honor, and empower the LGBTQIA+ community? This conversation explores the term’s fluid definition while considering an array of architectural structures designed specifically for members of the queer community-from the mid-century, modernist havens of Fire Island to an award-winning, contemporary Miami residence; from celebratory public works to memorials and beyond.
