    This is a great review. I appreciate how you give all the specs on the knife. Albeit, I would love to see it in action. Say, cutting food, wood, etc. Perhaps in your next video, you could implement some cutting. I am going to get this knife very soon. I only wish there were a knife store near me so I could just go out and buy it. I hate waiting, or paying for expensive delivery. Thanks for the review.

    This is easily the best review of the three variants of this knife. Thanks a bunch. Any updates on how that PVD variant of the N690 turned out?

    • @edcdeeznutz
      @edcdeeznutz  4 года назад +1

      Thanks, Bryan. I like the PVD coating, perhaps better than the satin N690. Haven’t done anything ‘hard’ with it yet, but there’s noticeably less friction when handling and cutting. I wanted to carry and use the satin as the default because I’ve never had a PVD-coated knife. But I appreciate the science of it, and find that I almost prefer it to the satin finish. Maybe that’s because I know the coating can take a beating. In the meantime, though, I’ve come to possess a used GMF1-F which is PVD-coated M390. A gentleman used it for several weeks, made a kydex sheath for it, and decided it wasn’t for him. He put it through some use, and there’s hardly any marking or scuffs to the finished coating. But I won’t feel bad about using it for its intended purpose!

    Proper review...thx; now I want new ‘F’.

      Much obliged, glad you appreciated it. The -F stands out even in the midst of knives twice its size. I love a small, stout fixed blade.

      Thanks, James! In the near future I’ll be posting a tabletop video of the new gmf1-fs in stainless m390. Same great knife in a new satin finish. Will be brief! I appreciate your kind words!

    Great review of the three blades. Have you been able to pick a favorite? Are you planning on keeping all 3?

    • @edcdeeznutz
      @edcdeeznutz  4 года назад

      The GMF1-F is my favorite because of the extra heft and the m390 steel. N690 steel is great, too, and my GMF1 in satin n690 has gotten the most use. Definitely going to hang onto them, even bought some to give away this holiday season. Thanks!

    It’s part of lionsteel, MKM, and other brands. It’s all made in the same place. It’s a great looking nice and I trust it will work for years.

    Which way does the blade go into the sheath,edge out or edge in?

    • @edcdeeznutz
      @edcdeeznutz  4 года назад +1

      Howdy, Greg, I messed up in the video and had it in backwards. It actually fits both ways (now that mine is worked in), but was designed to fit with the curve of the handle pointing toward the shallower end / cut out on the sheath. So, the cutting edge faces the side with two rivets.

      By far the easiest way and what I was told by giant mouse was to put the knife in the sheath exactly how you did in the video you're seem to be extra tight on the sheath mine acts like that if I put it in the opposite way you did in the video but fits like a glove the exact way you did in the video...

      @@BuffaloNickel9 was just thinking of the same question earlier. Checked gm's site and all of the photos of the GMF1s were inserted with the cutting edge facing the side of the sheath with 2 rivets.
      For me, it feels more natural and comfortable taking the knife in and out when positioned the other way around though.

    It’s expensive for a basic minimal steel. This knife should be $60-$80. Not $135.

    • @edcdeeznutz
      @edcdeeznutz  Год назад +1

      Dr. Penny,
      I agree with you that the GiantMouse prices are higher than one might expect for a knife of comparable size and materials. Even for medium hands, this knife could use some more handle. Maybe the higher price could be blamed on demand; maybe it’s just the price of admission onto the bandwagon- in either case, I purchased this knife several times, haha. I dig and the design and the designers. And even though it’s small and costly, it’s still a great knife. That said, there’s a lot of great knives out there… thanks for watching! Planning to share some more cost-effective fixed blades ASAP.

      @@edcdeeznutz I just got mine and I inspected it. 2 Thumbs Way up. Perfect. The only question I have is how is the heat treatment on the M390 super steel?

    • @edcdeeznutz
      @edcdeeznutz  Год назад

      I can’t really say, maybe others will chime in here- I sold mine recently with some of collection. I’ve had plenty of bohler m390 knives, never had any issues.

    Aside from the fact it’s a juvenile and kinda silly name and logo I guess it’s alright for a three finger knife.

    • @edcdeeznutz
      @edcdeeznutz  2 года назад +1

      Agreed, Colm! Can't speak to the name, but I love the designers! This knife is top 3 carry for me. I posted a new video of some fixed blades in which I compare this knife to the Viper Berus 1 -- you might dig that one if you prefer a slightly larger knife.
