Spyderco ARK (Always Ready Knife) Neck Knife Review
Просмотров 16 тыс.4 года назад
Opinion-based review of Spyderco ARK (Always Ready Knife) by Spyderco and John Shirley This is not a paid or endorsed review. I purchased this knife and am sharing my thoughts about it. This is the first review of a knife that I have recorded to share. I may record similar reviews of other folding and fixed blade knives in my collection. It helps to have a video to share when discussing or sell...
Put it on there an get used to it u will love it, give it a chance don't cut it out before u use n give it a great month on ur sheath, felt same way an now got one on almost all my knifes
if you’re talking about the ulticlip, I’ve tried and tried! I’ve had more success with the mummert clips, but even then, I’m most likely to carry loose in the front pocket. Thanks for watching!
This is a great review. I appreciate how you give all the specs on the knife. Albeit, I would love to see it in action. Say, cutting food, wood, etc. Perhaps in your next video, you could implement some cutting. I am going to get this knife very soon. I only wish there were a knife store near me so I could just go out and buy it. I hate waiting, or paying for expensive delivery. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for your kind words, Mike!
Can't go wrong with a TKell.
Catch them when you can though!
@edcdeeznutz Just drop a new batch of some old favorites and have a good bit of things available right now.
Great video,..I ordered one today.
Good call, normcote270! Still loving mine! Wishing you the very best in 2025
Waoooooo am impres my friend wonderfull quality knife and leather work. THANKS. FOR YOU VIDEOS
Thanks for watching! And thanks for your kind words!
Cuchillo means any knife not specifically a short fixed blade
Tiny
Definitely pocketable! Thanks for watching, Travflix, doing another fixed blade round up coming soon!
Wow! Just ordered those hiviz handles for mine! They look great! Also nice so it’ll be easy to find the little thing if I drop it.
I agree completely, Jerome! Hope you enjoy yours, and thanks for watching!
Quality content thank you brother
Thanks for watching! More coming soon!
Good review. First knife of this style that caught my eye was by Brous blades but it was pricey. Others were badly designed shape wise with little more than 2 finger grip. I get they want to be compact but you lose a lot of function when you can have something like this with extra purchase for little extra length and weight. This, I can actually use. I can carve a stick with this. Great design. Materials, workmanship is really good and the included kit makes for easy carry. A good little edc knife or self defense. Having that hole would definitely help in a SD situation in retaining it.
Thanks, schlooonginator! I can’t agree more. Awesome price for a super versatile knife. Low profile, compact, utilitarian. the pvd version is my preferred, but both are excellent choices. thanks for your comment!
Cold steel tanto Spike
@@RayParnell-l5d thanks for watching, Ray! I’ll check it out
Yep gonna have to get the viper berus and the Makro the big brio to the mikro
Thanks for watching, Scott! Hope you enjoy them!
On the cold steel why didn’t you just take the screws out that held the belt loop on instead of cutting the nylon off of it?
Thanks for watching, WitW! I actually liked the plastic tab left on there- made for a little bit of extra clearance in and out of the pocket. But I have since taken the screws out- the securex sheaths by CS aren’t my favorite.
i dont like any 1 of those but .... good vid
All good, Smokey! Thanks for watching! I’m looking forward to sharing some more soon- maybe some that you’ll enjoy! All the best-
@@edcdeeznutz il be watching..i did like your review..seemed genuine
wow what an episode this was so fun to watch!
Thanks, Sandy! Planning another fixed blade round-up soon!
I like how you review cool knives rather than Amazon affiliate links!
Thanks, EG, I stay away from Amazon.
Wow, very well explained and very intriguing. Would love to see you do one on a vid.
Thanks! I took a quick video of myself flaming a Mr nice bar and posted that to my 1nstaqram @edcdeeznutz
wow this is a desirable knife! Looks awesome!
One of my favorites!
These came out looking great!
Thank you! It’s a simple enough process and a lot of fun, actually. Thanks for watching!
I like Tops, and this looks well made as expected. But due to the steel thickness, I wonder if the edge geometry is useful for anything other than chopping, which doesn't make sense for a neck knife.
Def not a chopper, but a spreader. It opens up a channel in the material. But you’re correct, it’s not the sliciest and it’s more for defense / immediate need. Always a good utility option, too!
This is a great list and I really enjoyed your presentation and commentary. New sub.
Thanks, EG! More fixed blades to come soon!
im waiting on my taylors ridge hopefully not to long lol
You won’t be disappointed! Thanks for watching!
what is that little box opener you have?
@@timjk32 it’s called the khopesh by pharaoh edc; it’s a titanium box opener basically. Not sharp enough to break skin, but pointy and tough enough to pop tape. Keeps the tape gum off of my knives. Great little tool!
Solid chunk of toy that bottle opener.
Fun size!
Nice review. Both great looking knives. Recently ordered a Raider and Nightstalker. Now wait patiently.
Thanks, Metal Tracker! They are as excellent as knives get, imho. The raider looks like another best of both worlds kind of knife; it’s on my list, also. I’m sure you’ll enjoy!
I love my TKell Knives! #TKellian
Thanks for watching, Stephen!
I'm really glad I found this video. My idea of an edc fixed blade is pretty specific, and this brought me a few new options to look at. I actually just got the Neckmuk. Ideally I want a 4 finger grip, if the pinky is only partial that's okay, but still short enough overall to carry horizontally.
Thanks for your kind words, Buffington, and thanks for watching. We have similar preferences when it comes to fixed blades. I’m looking forward to sharing another edc fixed blades round-up soon- stay tuned!
I would like to say that I am happy to have come across your channel. You have a very good presentation about your knives. It's informative but relaxed. Which is something I enjoy, thanks, and good luck!
@gregb.7564 thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement! more reviews to come- thanks for watching!
Interesting list, I like very much such little knives (I have some, CRKT have somes very interesting too with the Minimalist serie) :)
Thanks for watching, Raphael! I had a few of the minimalist series, too. I just wish CRKT would spend a little more on quality- but that line of knives has something for everyone! Small and carry-able is what I look for most of the time. More to come!
Very cool prybars. I look forward to seeing more
Thanks, Jason! Gonna do another round up of titanium bars pretty soon! Stay tuned!
Not only was I searching for a quality daily driver fixed blade. But also a good sheath. I've found both at tkell knives.
Thanks for watching, Jake! Enjoy!
Awesome review man love Tkell have a Raider and a Combatant on the way🤙🏽
Brandon, thanks for watching! I was torn between the raider and the Taylor’s ridge originally. So many great knives! I’m sure you’ll enjoy!
Uh… anyone need a prybar?
Holler at your boy! Thanks for watching, Tony!
Old video but sure glad i came across this channel, great content keep it up💪
Thanks, x3mobkiddo, more to come before the year is out! Been working hard to get back to it, and I’ll be glad to post some more before 2024. Thanks for checking in!
Cold steel mini Hunter by Lloyd Pendleton is the one I like.
I’m a fan of it, too, Paul! Great size edc user.
@@edcdeeznutzwhy didn't you untight the screws in the sheath and change it to a lock or just take the whole thing off?
Thanks for watching! Which knife are you asking about?
@@edcdeeznutz The cold steel Pendleton. It seems like an easier solution to screw the whole webbing off then cut it.
@sandorpalcso1142 I see what you mean, I wanted the screws to stay as a means of keeping the sheath together, potentially contributing to increased retention? But it didnt make much difference. those injection molded sheaths for the Pendleton minis just aren’t my preferred.
This is amazing! I'm guessing at those temps there is no concern about damaging the handle materials. I've liked the Salt series but am not a fan of plain yellow.... I think you just changed my mind about picking one up.
Thanks so much, Greg! I would have recorded more of the process, but it’s messy. The temps don’t bother the material, mostly because I dipped and rinsed. I’m sure if you left them in there longer, there’s a risk of deforming them, but I could be wrong about that. I erred on the side of caution, but rinse and repeat worked for me! Thanks for watching! I absolutely love my salt knives, many of which are dyed by now.
@@edcdeeznutz Cheers! and thanks for the quick reply.
There are surviving, obviously non stainless knives from about 10 centuries ago (and older ofc) that are still in an 'okay' shape, so your assumption there is wrong. If anything, a knife that requires more frequent sharpening IS the one that will eventually wear through faster, be it stainless or not. The problem is that we dont use our knives enough to ever do that nowadays... You can see that on some of the surviving finds Ive mentioned, where theyre been worn through to the point of not being usable anymore and simply discarded in some cases, but still surviving all rusted out to the present day, in various states, but still... So your preference for stainless for the sake of longevity is very wrong! All the chrome does to your modern blade is keeping it good looking even after you dirty your blade and cant be bothered to clean it up after youre done with it for the day. But if you have to sharpen that blade more often, you can bet your left nut it will last you less than a rusty blade that you have to sharpen a lot less often ;)
My preference is my own, no doubt about it. I prefer stainless steels that don’t patina or rust; but it’s not because I don’t care for my knives properly. Thanks for watching!
@@edcdeeznutz not my point at all. Youve said a stainless blade will last you longer even if you have to sharpen it more often. It wont. The act of sharpening is taking off material faster than a bit of rusting can. Especially if you do care for your blades. If you keep it in acid, well then, that is a different story then 😆
Yeah, I think what I meant was that, for me, I get more life and use out of a stainless blade because I don’t have to worry about corrosion. Other folks worry more about edge retention or durability. sharpening removes material, but it’s deliberate. I’m enjoying magnacut steel knives for this reason- dependably stainless but more balanced. I appreciate your comments!
Definitely at least 2 gonna haves ...& a couple wanna haves
Thanks, Bruce! I’m curious which ones!
Im likeing the iper Berus 2 in Artic Storm,...IMHO. Ulticlip makes sub 7" fixed blades a really good option!!
Thanks for watching, Norm! I’m excited to share some more sub 7” fixed blades before the year is out. Stay tuned!
You got some nice ones there! But I think those mkm are super nice!!
Thanks for watching, Casey! More on the horizon before the year is out!
I subscribed!
Thanks, GlockNinja! More content on the way soon. Been on hiatus while updating my tech. Thanks for watching!
I like the mkm knife. But i would never want a magnet around any knife. It will transfer some of the magnetic properties to the knife. Not ok in shop environments or during sharpening.
David, thanks for watching! I’m glad you said so, as I had similar thoughts regarding magnetization and its potential for hassle. The kydex sheath was a good accessory, just too pricey. I’ve since moved on from mine, but did love those knives.
I prefer the MTK Neck Knife
Thanks for watching, Neil! I had to look it up- it looks great, is nice and lightweight, and has an awesome drop point profile. One to hold onto, definitely!
Love the mikro sheath!!
Thanks for watching, fragranceloverslk!
Why do you think they make Bushcraft knives out of 1095 it's a very tough steel.
Well said, Dennis! Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for more fixed blades!
Nice knives I will be pocket carrying The Winkler sd2 I like the Lined Kydex Sheath ,and it is expensive , But a Lifetime Knife .
Thanks for your comment, Gentry! I hadn’t heard of WK before now; will check them out! Lifetime knives are more what I’m interested in these days, so I appreciate your mentioning this one. Looking forward to sharing some more knives soon!
QSP neckmuk has that beautiful handle and then it ruins it with that goofy kitchen knife like blade thats very ugly like its supposed to be"tactical" when needed and to scare someone if they trynna do something to you but if you pull it out they got jump you with no hesitation.
The neckmuk is a modern interpretation of the nessmuk style blade, which maybe you already know. This one isn’t supposed to be pointy, or even for defense necessarily. I’d carry a smaller, swifter neck knife maybe for the purpose you’re describing. The neckmuk is a great companion blade, though! Thanks for watching, John!
@@edcdeeznutz if its like supposed to be a small bushcrafing-edc(because nessmuk is a bushcraft knife) knife its like an ok knife , i have to say it looks like it gets your fingers a very good grip but like for self defence -scaring somebody it wouldnt be that effective but i enjoyed your video explaining those small edc knives, keep up.
Thank you!
All of this three are same size blade and handle???
Hey, BH, yeah! The only difference is that the gmf1-f is a millimeter thicker
It’s part of lionsteel, MKM, and other brands. It’s all made in the same place. It’s a great looking nice and I trust it will work for years.
Absolutely!
It’s expensive for a basic minimal steel. This knife should be $60-$80. Not $135.
Dr. Penny, I agree with you that the GiantMouse prices are higher than one might expect for a knife of comparable size and materials. Even for medium hands, this knife could use some more handle. Maybe the higher price could be blamed on demand; maybe it’s just the price of admission onto the bandwagon- in either case, I purchased this knife several times, haha. I dig and the design and the designers. And even though it’s small and costly, it’s still a great knife. That said, there’s a lot of great knives out there… thanks for watching! Planning to share some more cost-effective fixed blades ASAP.
@@edcdeeznutz today I am receiving the MKM MIKRO with G 10 handles. Half the price. Oh I forgot, M390 steel.
I found the mikro to be very small, but an awesome knife! Enjoy!
@@edcdeeznutz I just got mine and I inspected it. 2 Thumbs Way up. Perfect. The only question I have is how is the heat treatment on the M390 super steel?
I can’t really say, maybe others will chime in here- I sold mine recently with some of collection. I’ve had plenty of bohler m390 knives, never had any issues.
Great reaction video, Love me some TKELL knives! He has an excellent EDC / self defense and bushcraft selection. All that on top of 100% made in the USA / Life of the knife guarantee. Tim is also a USMC vet.
Thanks for your comment, Revenant! I have another T Kel knife review that I’ve been waiting to post, with great technical difficulty- but more to come soon! Tim Kell is a professional knife maker and human being, seriously a cool, thoughtful guy. Thanks for watching!
@@edcdeeznutz I agree 100% I like that he uses those original passthrough bolts he designed so you can lash your knife to a pole to make an improvised spear if you need to. Tim has thought of everything and priced so the average Joe can afford his tools. Brilliant man!!!
