Thanks! My G15 is in the mail (on order) and I'm trying to learn all I can about it before it arrives in a few days. Your tip are very useful.

The start-up image is only there for the fraction of a second that it takes the lens to extend. Turning it off makes no difference at all.

Be careful deleting things off of your SD card from the camera or the PC, it can mess up the card. The best possible thing to do is to download all images off of you camera, and then format the card in camera... I've learned that from experience.

Oh the days when cameras were such simple things to operate.

VERY important additional tip if you want to get the highest quality JPEG images. This setting is not the default! Press the Func.Set button, press the down icon on the wheel, choose the file size icon (L or M1 or M2 or S) Choose L, but then press the Menu button and select Superfine for the compression ratio. This setting is irrelevant if you're shooting RAW.

Thanks for providing real life examples of when the camera making a noise is not appropriate. I learnt something new today

Nicely done video-- to the point immediately, smooth, clear, intelligent word choice.

Thanks! The 'super fine' menu is a little hidden and your tip was greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Very useful - actually followed you using my beloved G12, which I use professionally for video and stills. Same menu. (Great for travelling). If you have any tips about the video use, that would be great. I discovered I had to hold down the exposure button to stop the aperture jumping up and down during video shooting. By the way, slow talking pace is ideal when you're trying to follow on the buttons! Cheers Jakekav1

Go for the G1X. This camera is well past its 'sell by date'

Have you had any problems with getting little scratches on your lens? I have I've read of other cases too.. They don't affect the images But the fact I know they are there is very annoying

Perhaps speed up the talking pace, the video could have been trimmed quite a bit. Thanks none the less for the useful tips!

    Thanks for the useful tips.
Mind you, I want to ask:
Are you still happy with this camera?
Because someone is trying to sell me one G15
    Thanks!

This camera is very old now, so you can get a much better camera for a similar retail price. So i wouldn't get this camera now unless it was heavily discounted.

+regardinghongkong I agree with you, yes, it's an oldie, but a goodie; like good old time rock n roll.
Surprisingly enough, Canon was making meat & potatoes cameras back in the day. Right before they begun to put all sorts of whistles and ding dongs in their late models.
      Thanks for your kind advice.
      Keep on shooting,
      keep on sharing.
