I just want to say that this was an amazing tutorial! Straight to the point and not a history lesson on how the wheel was built. I have spent almost two hours trying to get my computers to share. Went on youtube, typed in what I wanted, and your video was the first one to pop up. The only problem I had was the password part. I didn't realize it would be my Microsoft Account password. I kept using my laptop password. Someone had commented on another comment below about it and that is how I found out. I hope the next computer problem I come across you will have the answer. I couldn't agree more with Sharon. I was trying to use google drive and other methods and this was so much easier. Thank you so so much. Major live saver! :)
For those who are having issues with the username and password it is due to the fact that windows has changed the way things work as far as your actual windows license and what account info it is tied to. It would not accept my PC's log in username and pin. It wanted my actual Microsoft email and password and it then worked perfectly. Since windows is tied to your account in many cases now, this may be what is hindering you.
After spending HOURS... trying to make it with USB, or drop box... YOU JUST SAVED MY LIFE. Ok... it's a bit too much... but you saved my precious time! Thank you so much!!!

Thanks for the great tutorial. In my case I had to setup a local account on my PC before I could connect. Just in case anyone else is having issues connecting. This might be due to an update in Windows from the time the tutorial was made.
4 years later and still helping! I was selling my Mac so I put everything on an external hard drive to transfer over to my pc. Only to realize afterwards that it formatted the hard drive for a Mac so no files were readable on pc. I never realized you could partition a hard drive for both kinds. Anyways... I'm glad my Mac didn't sell right away as I found this video and plugged in my harddrive to the Mac and I am currently transferring files to my pc. Thanks a lot!
After a few hours of intense frustration I can now transfer files between my mac and PC. What was my solution? I created a new user on my windows PC with a "PASSWORD". I'll probably never use this new account for anything but at least I have my files accessible. I just wish somewhere it would have said you need a PASSWORD before going any further! I realize mac's are super anal when it comes to security and require a password for almost everything. Anyways, thanks for your video it was very informative and helpful.

Great and clear video, thanks for posting it. I got stuck at the point of entering my username and password for Windows. A helpful comment below resolved this. If you are logged into your PC with a PIN, logout and login with your password, or it won't work. It now works like a dream!
Great to hear it worked out. Yes the login is the thing that comes up the most in trouble shooting. So if you login with the admin username and password that is the way to go.
This video has saved this Macbook from being exchanged to another Windows OS laptop. I tried almost everything and thanks to your straight to the point video I am now successful and my video files have transferred to my Mac. You are the man!!!
Great! But how about the other way around? I want to have the server folder (the main host) to be the mac, and I want the windows to view/access the folder located originally on the mac.
Go back into properties on your pc and select on sharing-advanced sharing-permissions and allow all permissions. Then reconnect the folder to your mac, should work.
Finally, looking through all these comments I was wondering the same thing, because I am on my mac more than my pc so I don't want to have my pc on all the time to work.
@@pablomarin1475 I tried this, but I'm not sure I understand because it seems like reconnecting the pc folder to the mac will not move the host to the mac. Am I correct, could you help clarify? Thank you so much for replying. Been trying to figure this out.

Touch Technology Review Had to access the mac on windows 10 so I transferred from windows instead of from mac to windows. I couldn't get past the password request on the mac after connecting. Any advice?
If you are going the other way and want to access the mac from the pc, then make sure you take note of step 1 in enabling file sharing on the mac in System Preferences. You have to tick on the Account name in the windows File sharing box. This allows you to access the mac from a PC. See how that goes.
Touch Technology Review I meant to say that I could not access the windows pc from the mac as shown in the video. I accidentally got access from windows to mac
Oh i see, its hard to say what could be stopping you from getting access to the PC from the Mac. When you type in the SMB address if it comes up with a username and password prompt make sure you enter the Admin details, that is the username and password you used to set up the computer. See if that works. If you don't get as far as that make sure that the PC is set to allow visibility on your network and allow users access in the Network and Sharing options. Let me know how you go.
I had the same problem and i think i figured it out. Remove the PIN login option from your user profiles. After I removed the PIN login option the actual password worked. I saw your comment earlier and I had the same question. Give it a try. I hope it works.
@@journyman2010 No need to remove PIN. Just in start of login, do 'choose option' where both PIN & Password option comes. PIN option will be default & only when u need to share files, choose Password as login

Great video. Thank you. I Completed all the steps. I can only share from pc to Mac. I need to share Mac to the pc, however the files on the Mac won’t go into the shared folder. Any suggestions?
Cheers, thanks for watching. The only thing I can think of is that the permission on the folder on your PC might be set to read only and not write so the mac can't drop the files in the folder? See if you can adjust the permissions on the PC for full access.
I had the same issue, some things must have gotten reorganized n an update. If you click “Network and Sharing Center”, then “Chamge advanced sharing settings” on the left side of the new window, it will take you where you need to go.
For the username, you can also go to Command Prompt as you did for the IP address and write "whoami", press "enter" and you should see your username. Or, you can open any PDF file on Microsoft Edge and you should see C:/Users/[usename] in the URL. [usename] should be your username. For the password, it's your Microsoft account's password, not your pin.
As someone who's studying computer programming, fixes PC at a motherboard component level and is a full fledged electrical engineer I'm ashamed to admit why I never thought of such a clean cut/clever solution to enable file sharing. For years I uploaded to the cloud and regularly rewrote folders when necessary or transferred files from usb to usb and then back to the OS. Hahaha! I'm such a wack job. Touch Tehcnology, thank you for humbling me and the straightforward instructions that will also work on the latest Mac and Windows OS!
Glad to hear that this tutorial was helpful! As you say, this is so much better than using cloud based services as you can do it all over your local network. 👍
On your PC, hold CNTL and ALT at the same time...hit Delete to bring up Task Manager. Then, click More Details...then Users...and see what your username is. I assume you know your Windows password. :)
The username is your linked Microsoft email address. The password is what you use to access your PC not the password to access your email. This worked for me. Transferred a file after and all.
Yeah the password it’s asking for is the one on the PC. The “username” will probably auto populate as whatever it is on the Mac. Erase that and type in the username of your PC account followed by the PC password.... then you’re in. I just did this and all is magically well.
I really liked it that this video was made for each type of audience. Even if someone is a complete noob at these things you explained everything very clearly repeating several times "CLICK THIS, it is higlighted with red color" so even a grandma can understand what to click. :D
Got stuck signing in, then realised my username wasn't what i thought it was. If anyone else finds they cant log in, go to command prompt and type whoami and press enter and it will tell you your username.
It worked! For everyone who could not figure out the username and password, you have to switch your User account on your PC to be a local account, not a Microsoft account!
Thank you so much! I bought a link cable between windows and have even tried to share files through Bluetooth dongle, which is not successful.. Thanks to your slow speaking and clear explanation, I have resolved my issues of sharing files between Mac and windows. Just one question: Do I have to change the IP address if I move around the places? Or is this fixed IPAddress for my Windows laptop?
Great to hear it worked out. The ip address may change if you close down the PC and add other computers to the network or move around to other networks. So if you find that does occur you just need to find the current IP address of the windows computer using the IP Config command and then put that into the Mac Connect to server field and it should work.
Worked for me. Very easy to follow video and directions. I was on my he phone for an hour with an Apple tech trying to get this to work.....not sure why it wouldn’t work....user errors? MINE maybe, lol! Thank you and I look forward to your next how-to video

I’m dealing the same issue how to get over it? Anyone
@@hasanatif4082 Go to sleep..then wake it by pressing power button. Then login using password instead of pin..should work
I have to say that is fantastic to have a face on the screen instead of just the voice, like majority of 'how to' something on the computer. Also enjoyed the pace. I usually lose my hair and my patience doing computer stuff and this one.... I'VE DONE! :) THANK YOU!
Thanks 🙏 greatly appreciate he feedback. Yes
I figure that people like to see who’s talking to them. Glad it was helpful. Cheers!
I just gotta say I am so thankful for this great video. It worked on the first shot! All I had to do different that was not explained in this video was select read and write on my Mac's "staff" and on my Mac's "everyone" icons under the sharing section. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Great to hear it worked! Cheers!
everytime I tried connecting to the ip address at 5:30 it says error even though i put it in correctly
Same
on your pc, go to settings-network&internet-view your network properties, and enter the exact same IPv4 address from there. this worked for me. hope this helps
@@hotice9828 on your pc, go to settings-network&internet-view your network properties, and enter the exact same IPv4 address from there. this worked for me. hope this helps
Open cmd on PC type "netuser" and you will see users available on PC then use correct user name.
@@markzhangMA261 Tried your way too but alas.... it gives me a different message saying the server may not exist! :'(
Great video.
Touch Technology Review - thank you for the prompt response! Big help. Liked and Sub’d
I don't have "Sharing Options" where you have it in windows10 can't continue with video...
I had the same issue, some things must have gotten reorganized n an update. If you click “Network and Sharing Center”, then “Chamge advanced sharing settings” on the left side of the new window, it will take you where you need to go.
You saved the day. Your step by step guide helped me transfer what I needed in no time at all.
Awesome. Great to hear that it was helpful!
Thanks so much
Tanner Pasco You’re welcome. Thanks
fantastic - thanks - i have been struggling with bluetooth sharing for long and it never worked - this is perfect !
You're welcome. Glad it was helpful....
@5:40 How do I know my servers username and password?
For the username, you can also go to Command Prompt as you did for the IP address and write "whoami", press "enter" and you should see your username. Or, you can open any PDF file on Microsoft Edge and you should see C:/Users/[usename] in the URL. [usename] should be your username.
For the password, it's your Microsoft account's password, not your pin.
@@clairedo7735 DUDE..... THANK YOU... ugh... I was like "what did I miss"... Your comment was way too helpful 👌🏻❤️
@@clairedo7735 what about the password? which pass should i put and where to find it
@@azizalqunaisis2567 password of your microsoft account. Not your pin. For the username, i had to put in my email. Works like a charm
@@fogg0 My password for my Microsoft account didn't work
Very helpful and well presented. I now have my MacBook Pro and my custom PC workstation sharing image files. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
thank you boss
You're most welcome 👍
I don't understand what password to use at 5:44. It's not my lock screen digits, it's not my Outlook account or local windows account.
On your PC, hold CNTL and ALT at the same time...hit Delete to bring up Task Manager. Then, click More Details...then Users...and see what your username is. I assume you know your Windows password. :)
same problem i tried everything still didnt do any thig
The username is your linked Microsoft email address. The password is what you use to access your PC not the password to access your email. This worked for me. Transferred a file after and all.
@@MentorisH Wow - got stuck at the same point - now it works! Thanx a lot.
@@boorayin2773 thanks for the explanation! was stuck at the username part
Thank you - this was simple, clear and easy to follow. Much appreciated!
Great to hear! You are most welcome!
im confused about the password, i dont ever remember setting a password
The password to your login on the Mac/PC
Yeah the password it’s asking for is the one on the PC. The “username” will probably auto populate as whatever it is on the Mac. Erase that and type in the username of your PC account followed by the PC password.... then you’re in. I just did this and all is magically well.
FLOJOtube I don’t have a pc password. What do I do?
Thank you for such a simple and detailed guide!
You are very welcome!
"5 easy steps" lol ... i decided to build a rocket, it's easier
😅
I really liked it that this video was made for each type of audience. Even if someone is a complete noob at these things you explained everything very clearly repeating several times "CLICK THIS, it is higlighted with red color" so even a grandma can understand what to click. :D
Great, thanks for watching and for the positive feedback. Cheers!
Got stuck signing in, then realised my username wasn't what i thought it was. If anyone else finds they cant log in, go to command prompt and type whoami and press enter and it will tell you your username.
Great tip. Thanks 🙏 for sharing
Simple and straightforward. Thanks!
You're welcome!
20k more subs to get RUclips rank on hypixel LOL
I don't have premium minecraft i have cracked
PineappleJB nah it needs 30k subs man
It worked! For everyone who could not figure out the username and password, you have to switch your User account on your PC to be a local account, not a Microsoft account!
Thanks for your contribution. That is correct.
@@Touchtechnologyreview I really appreciate your quick respond! Thank you so much!
excellent information - extremely clear and concise - worked like a charm
Great to hear that. Thanks for watching!
Awsome straight to point video. I'm a tech and worked out perfect. Thanks

Thank you, amazing and straight forward video! You have to create a windows password in order to log in to your windows account on macos.
Yes you do need a Windows password for this to work.
amazing tutorial....just about to get my first all in one mac. excited and apprehensive but ready for a challenge!
Worked for me. Very easy to follow video and directions. I was on my he phone for an hour with an Apple tech trying to get this to work.....not sure why it wouldn’t work....user errors? MINE maybe, lol! Thank you and I look forward to your next how-to video

Glad it helped!
Amazingly simple tutorial, worked instantly, thanks. (but guys don't move the folder on windows, unless you know that you must re-enable the sharing stuff, and reconnect on the mac after)
That was amazing, can't believe how simple this was. I thought I'd have to spend half the day fiddling with windows and firewall settings.
Glad it helped!
@@Touchtechnologyreview It's a bit slow with a read and write speed of 10MB a second. Is that normal?
Also, is this secure? It's okay to keep private stuff in this folder for use between the two computers?
Otherwise, I'm okay with this.
