    The reason for that faulty hit detection in Redneck Rampage, might be tied to the way build engine handles water. The level over and under water are literally different map areas, and nothing can exist partially over or under, it's always over water or under water. So even bullets might be moved to the underwater section when hitting water, there is no part of enemy there for them to contact.

    • @Deadener
      @Deadener 3 года назад +2

      I still only recommend the Basic Unofficial Patch for a first playthrough, sewers and all. It isn't that bad if you have Celerity or Obfuscate. While Plus Patch is a good mod, I really wish people would stop recommending new players mod the game before they get the vanilla experience. There's a reason Unofficial was split into two patches years ago. When it was one, people started to complain about the added content. That's because it's largely not "restored content", as some are only to happy to advertise it as. It's modder-created content that was inspired by developer input. It's a novel, high quality mod, but the dip in quality between mod vs vanilla content can't be ignored. It won't ruin the game or anything, but it can lead to a bumpier experience. Example:
      Histories. Sounds good on paper, but for a first time player, the execution is extremely lackluster. Wesp5 is convinced the developers abandoned it because it has an exploit in character creation (which remains unfixed). I disagree. I think it's because it wasn't fun for most players anyway, and there was simply no reason to try and fix it with everything else they had to do. Plus, they'd probably have to make the quiz a lot longer, too. It's a lot of work for nothing.
      Histories is a novel feature for someone who's played the game three times, but for a new player, it's a shit load of monotonous reading that completely overshadows any benefit it could add to the experience. After having to click on each one, read it's description, seeing what changes it makes, and then having to compare it to the previous 40 histories they just read, the player is exhausted and bored. New players are already struggling to learn which stats are important and what they do in the game, and Histories throws the character sheet into a blender and plops it back on the table. Sure they could ignore it, but they don't know how critical that feature might be, or if they're setting themselves up for failure. And as far as they are aware, this feature is part of the base game, because that's what people told them. It's the "completely restored" version, despite a professional developer making the decision to abandon that feature.
      Cutting Histories for vanilla, to get the player in the game faster, and with more confidence, was the correct choice. It's things like this, that led to the patch splitting. Modders don't have to care about the new player experience, but professional developers of the vanilla game do.
      That's just one example with a long explanation. I think making the already shitty combat harder and more complicated is also something better left to the "mod" label. As with the extra areas like the Atrium and the Library quest, which have zero regard for difficulty balance.
