See it sounds like a good point until you ask what candidate you mean.
Are you talking about how Bill leaned to the left? Maybe you're talking about Tricky Dicky? Maybe you're talking about the assistant Secretary of everything else?
You see the problem is, there has always been a steady decline. This decline accelerates as the ability for news to travel has accelerated. If you're in your twenties and thirties, you will think only the last few elections call mom as you saw the rapid acceleration caused by the internet and the rise of social media. When the news went from 2-3x a day to a race to report everything within the hour.
BUT if you're in your 40s and 50s, you will have seen the change as the news became more popular with more options in who to watch, and national broadcasts becoming more and more popular as opposed to small scale local broadcasts. But if you lived earlier you might recall when TVs weren't common in homes, and daily newspapers were relied on. Limitations on story sizes meant they chose to only feature the best items. Imagine even further back when news might take days to travel instead of overnight?
Now we live in an age with 24/7 news, unlimited availability to deliver news internationally with an seemingly infinite number of sources, getting to watch events live that could take weeks or months to learn of in centuries past.
Yes, we've seen a moral and ethical decline, and yes the media is partially to blame but so are the people. It is a natural progression, but is also that the world is only now starting to see what's been there.

When your very identity is, rightly or wrongly, viewed by the other side as being inherently immoral or a threat to the nation's existence, decorum becomes an unaffordable extravagance that is detrimental to looking after the very well-being, let alone mere interests, of the people whose votes you represent

The electoral colleges can outright ignore what their state has chosen
The fact that it's counted by state instead of district is also weird since it just ignores people's voices
And there isn't many valid options beside democrats and republicans
In a system like Australia's for instance where ranked voting exists
Or if it went by district like Canada's
Then I could agree with you
The way the votes are counted are also important and should be noted when it comes to america
And one day, honestly, I hope america can get its system changed so there's better variety to represent them ((i hope the same for Canada))
The one thing I do like about American politics is the fact you vote on every level, I wish Canada would adopt that instead of just voting for mayors/premiers/prime ministers
Cause everything else being appointed sucks
      Again maybe one day

    • @liquidorion9250
      @liquidorion9250 7 месяцев назад +4

And that's exactly the problem. Democratic politics is about conversations, compromises etc. Doesn't matter if you don't like the other guy, it's your job to work together constructively - in fact, you SHOULD have differing opinions on some matters and cooperate to achieve the best possible solution for the affected people as a whole, no matter their political ideology. If you can't even engage with people of different political views in a civic manner, you're already failing the system.
That politicians like Trump (and yes, also some "liberal" politicians to put it in terms that conform with the American dichotomous political system) have basically ran / are running on a basis of being entirely and proudly unable/unwilling to do this and having success with it is testimony to the widespread misunderstanding of democracy.
And no, Trump is not the cause of these issues, he's a symptom among many. Probably the most prominent and regrettable symptom, but still. This didn't start with him.
