    Hi friends, great info and I have a little bit to add - these plastic reservoirs don't last forever. I've seen other videos where the tank was clogged up, not allowing coolant to be in contact with sensor. Personally, I went to change my sensor and when I pulled the old one out, no coolant leaked out.

    Mine did the same. No overheating but says coolant critically low.

    Just added coolant check engine light is still on. Hopefully it goes away.

      Low coolant will cause the “check” light to come on, but not the check engine light. If you actually have an engine symbol on your dash or an indicator that says to “check engine” you have something else going on.

    I have changed the sensor, but it still critical low.

      Did you find out what it was

      Just a bit low on coolant. But it is the overflow reservoir. Not the primary system. So just because it pops up and says “critically low coolant” does not mean the main system is low or causing damage.

    It's a optical sensor and your tank is low .driver

      @TruckingwithBones  7 месяцев назад +1

      An optical sensor detects light. Not coolant levels. The point of the video was not to say the reserve coolant tank did not need coolant added. It was to point out the obvious fact that the primary cooling system level hasn’t even been affected yet when the critically low coolant alarm comes on. Of course if you had watched the video you might have understood that

    Have I been doing it wrong ? Are you supposed to add water to the coolant ? I usually pick up a bottle from the truck stop and never added water to it

    • @TruckingwithBones

      It depends on the freeze point concentration of your coolant. Easy to test. If it is within acceptable limits for the climate zone you are in I would add 50/50 coolant. If you want the freeze point to lower for colder tempts I would add 100% coolant. If you do add water it is recommended to add distilled water in order to avoid mineral deposit buildups in your cooling system that could potentially cause a flow restriction. Although adding water on a roadside breakdown, if needed, is not going to destroy your cooling system. You can always flush it later if you’re concerned about it.

      I added about one and a half gallons of tap water on the road side, should I be concerned? Should I get it flushed and add new coolant? Thanks.

      Personally I would not worry about it.
