    I appreciate you showing us owner operators this. My truck is doing exactly that right now.

    I had the same issue 3 weeks ago
    And I only replaced the sensor, and it was all good for 3 weeks but the issue popped up again, so apparently there’s some magnets inside the reservoir that usually brake. So to save time and money I recommend replacing the reservoir when this happens, a new reservoir comes with the sensor already. A new reservoir was 500$ in Michigan and 1000$ in Nashville
    I hope this help.

    Thanks for the video, 8hrs of low coolant chime will drive you mad….

    This fixed my issue, i changed the sensor and the problem persisted. After watching this video I bought a tank, and noticed it did in fact have a magnetic floater inside the tank, that's also when I noticed in my old tank the floater was stuck at the bottom. Therefore always saying I had low coolant when I in fact did not.

      😂😂 yup.. "peterbilt do better!!" Use a 70/30 mix radiator fluid. It will get unstuck

    So I talk to mechanics that had issues with a peterbilt that did this. My peterbilt did this. Im glad I called these particular mechanics.
    So "get ready"
    The mechanics told me they tested the radiator as a whole. They told me that while testing it, they used water at first. They said the float inside the reservoir didn't float while it was in water. So they used heavy duty 50-50 radiator fluid. The float still didn't float. So then they used fluid that was 70/30. It started floating. The prognosis is that you don't use 50/50 in peterbilts. Something is funny about the floats inside the reservoirs. Use a 70/30 mix and stop buying new reservoirs. Chances are it's going to do it again. Simply because of the float inside.

    Are there any specific reason to replace the coolant reservoir?

    • @truckerslife2338
      @truckerslife2338  Год назад +1

      At first, that was my thoughts, too. Cause my old one was just fine. But I think old age and all the heat must of expanded it, making it to throw off your sensor reading. I took a risk, and it fixed my problem, it was a nightmare.

      Inside the tank there is a magnetic float that the sensor "watches". Over time it'll stick to the bottom of the tank.

      Mines has been doing this for a couple months.. replaced the sensor twice that didn’t work. The shop told me it’s the ECM. Now I’m wondering if It could be fixed if I replace my reservoir like u did .

    • @trell-px7qi
      @trell-px7qi 2 месяца назад

      Peterbilt Do Better.. it's the float. Use a 70/30 mix of radiator fluid. It will fix the problem. That stupid magnetic float is the problem. It will stop floating over time when you use a 50/50 mix and eventually derate your truck

    • @trell-px7qi
      @trell-px7qi 2 месяца назад

      @SrtTrucker I'm sorry I couldn't get to your quicker with the simple solution. Use 70/30 mix radiator fluid. It's the magnetic float inside the reservoirs. The water in a 50/50 mix of radiator is or was your problem. Trust me had the same issue

    U took ur truck twice to the shop foe the same issue and still not fix... it simply means the Tech failed miserably to diagnose the root cause of it... id go back to them after the 1st time and have them redo their mistake... none of us shouldnt b paying foe their failed diagnostic cuz time is $$$... shops have the equipment... JUST DONT HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE... Hope ur truck fixed after u do it urself...

    I am getting ready to buy the paccar resivor as it has a float / magnet on the inside as well a new sensor.
    Has your problem disappeared still?
    Great video. ....thank you!

    • @truckerslife2338
      @truckerslife2338  Год назад +1

      Yes, no more lights, it fixed the problem. To me my old coolant reservoir was in good non leaking, but maybe because of its old age, hard plastic must of expanded or something throwing my coolant sensor off.

  • @scothere
    @scothere Год назад

    Why did you do the reservoir for a coolant light? Seems it just holds the fluid...??

    • @truckerslife2338
      @truckerslife2338  Год назад +3

      After 2 new sensors, I went online and did more research, and there was this one comment saying to replaced the coolant reservoir seems weird, But my old reservoir was also good, not leaking. But my thoughts was maybe when my water heats up my coolant reservoir must of expanded a little due to old age and triggering my low coolant sensor to come on, I didn't even know if it was right or wrong thing to do so I just took a risk to replaced it, took the chance. And it fixed the job, no more lights, took it over 10k miles already.

      @@truckerslife2338 I found out that some reservoirs have the float built inside, instead of on the sensor.. And those you don't have to drain coolant because the float rides on the sensor install port.

    • @trell-px7qi
      @trell-px7qi 2 месяца назад

      @@truckerslife2338brother it's the magnetic float. I hope your new reservoir doesn't do the same. If it does just use an 70/30 mix radiator fluid

    I changed my sensor first no luck then I changed the pigtail leading to the reservoir no luck then I replaced my entire coolant reservoir and still no luck. This is crazy to me. Did your solution work?

      Sounds like you have a bad wire in the harness.

    • @trell-px7qi
      @trell-px7qi 2 месяца назад

      No it's the type of radiator fluid your using. Chang your radiator fluid to a 70/30 mix. It will fix your problem. The issue is the magnetic float peterbilt uses in their reservoirs. No good luck on finding a 70/30 mix. They aren't sold everywhere

      Yes or using a cheap brand of radiator fluid. I only used 50/50 in mine from major truck stops. Had this problem. 70/30 mix will fix the problem
