My first Marshall was a JCM 800 2210, and bought it in 1986. I remembered it as a great sounding amp.
I had a 50 watt combo and it was amazing
My first real amplifier, bought it in 1990 for $750 brand new! Still have it and it is LOUD!!
This is one of the better 2210 vids but it didn’t do the Normal channel justice. It’s chocked full of AC/DC tones and comes alive when cranked. It’s weird how people think this Marshall has a clean channel lol. Punch the Normal channel with a SD-1 for mega crunch. Then hit the Boost channel for light speed. For cleans you simply back off on the guitars volume to 2 or 3 on the Normal channel. Same as playing through a Plexi, JMP or 800.
Thanks! Agreed! There is some great rock tone in the "clean" channel. To get a clean sound, I have to keep the level way down on that channel and use a clean boost in the effects loop to get it up to a balanced volume with the boost channel and not be crunchy.
I agree
That is why it is called a normal channel, not a clean channel. :: ))
Forget reactive loads and impulses, plug into a cab and it will sound and FEEL 100% better!! Digital snake oil.....it has its place..sure...but is diminishing here...TRY and see.
I agree. They've come a long way, and a direct out with good IR's can be entirely passable for working with in a mix, but yeah, I would agree that there is still some magic that happens with a speaker moving air. Thanks for watching!
I have loved this amp.....
Love 😁 I ALMOST edited that out.
Still an amazing amp.
Really nice demo !!........I have a mint 2205 ,........now you just made me want to play it !.haha!
Thanks Lou! I had a 2205 too and it sounded awesome... almost the same but with a bit less bottom end. Maybe a set of tubes might have been the difference. Rock on man!
Very good idea to show the different knob settings with a loop!
Good review and demo. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Look inside the reverb tank, those little wires break so easy. Sometimes the solder comes loose.
Thanks for the tip. I have been in and checked continuity long ago. I will probably get ambitious about fixing someday, but it hasn't been near the top of my list any time recently. 😁
I had one in the early 90s but I kind of miss another master vol switch. I would definitely buy another one.
I love this amp 👍😄
Happy New Year 🥳
Me too!! 😁 Happy new year!!
Just got one. F-ING GREAT AMP!!!
I put it through vintage 30 4x12 with a Marshall Power Break.
Awesome! It's a great amp.
Killer amp. I hope Marshall reissues the 2210. Sounds like a 2555 and a 2203 mixed together. I was listening to a JVM 410H 100 which has the same circuit as the 1959/1987X Plexi and JCM800 2203 (many people don't know that) through a greenback and through a V-type speaker sounds way different. The V-type has far less mid range which produces noticably less bite. Yes the JVM 210H has those circuits as well. The 2210 a forgotten gem can be seen in the (as well as the 2555) in Guns N Roses "Paradise City" official video. So it is apparent that Slash used a 2210 at some point in GNRs early days.
Right on, thanks for all the info! No doubt the speakers play a big role in the overall sound.
What time in the paradise video. You had me watching it trying to spot it lol and not trying to dis them in any way but I'm not like huge into guns n roses
@@cjsnidlio9409 2:27 silver jubilees, and 3:51 you'll see the 2210s.
@@cjsnidlio9409 Guns n Roses Rocket Queen from live era and Peter Frampton Do you feel like we do are some great talk box chases!

I am an original owner of one of these monsters. I bought it along with 40 watt Celestion loaded cabinets. Tone is wonderful but sadly I have no gigs that make sense for me to use it anymore. Now I want to get a looper pedal just to set up my tone. Great idea.
Yeah, I borrowed the looper pedal idea from Pete Thorn. Works great!
Sounds good Javyon!
Thank you!
I have the same amp, but i prefer to have Channel volume alla the way up, gain not more than 1 o'clock and push with mxr microamp before the overdrive that you like...It sound Amazing!
I'll have to try that! I have a Microamp but I use it in the loop to kick the volume up for solos.
I use too for that...but now i try this different way. This week I Will try a Beetronics Fatbee and a Friedman Dirty Shirley OD instead my mxr zakk wylde...and i Will decide where to put the microamp. Now for push the solos i use an old big muff but is too much 😅
You all should play straight through the amp so we can really see what they sound like
This is awesome!
Thank you!!
@@JavyonVISION You're welcome. Keep up the good vids, man. Don't stop the rock!
Great Amp, for a very good review. Compliments. - P.S. i'd take away the diode and do the alla valve gain mod, like a JCM 900 SL-X. It'd sound better, IMHO.
Thank you! I'm not familiar with that mod. I will have to look it up.
Check out Saul Hudson (Slashs' real name) and you'll see that he has the 2210 in his vintage rig that he squired at the Donnington show.
Cool! I will look that up. Thanks!
Does it still have GE 6550 tubes? If not what were they replaced with? One of the GE tubes crapped out in mine looking for a good replacement quartet. Thanks
Actually the power tubes in it are really old (mid nineties). They were a quartet of EL34, GrooveTube brand tubes which were seemingly kore common at that time. I am not sure of the actual manufacturer as I understand GT just bought, tested, graded, and rebranded them. They are still working fine.
Ax8 user here.....I assume you like the 2210/suhr load box better than the Brit 800 amp block in the AX8 ?
Hi MisterTinkertrain! Yes, I do prefer the 2210+Suhr w/ IR's to the AX8 model of it... but the AX8 does give you so much flexibility that you can make it work for your mix, as you are no doubt familiar with as a fellow AX8 user.
i need jcm 800 in my life, shall i go for this model (i have matching 4x12 already) or shall i go for 2203? i mainly play metal and dont care much of clean stuff. i like high gain mayhem. thanks in advanc.
I'm a bit partial to this model. I think you can get a little more gain out of it than the 2203, but preamp tubes can factor into that. A 2203 can absolutely get the job done though. A boost in front of one ought to be plenty of gain for metal Thanks for watching!!!
Good video!!:o
Thank you!!
P.S. do not purchase a tape echo until you've heard it through a Marshall. Come rain, come sleet, come snow, and even if the cows don't come home what's it gonna be Bob, huh? What's it gonna be...that's right it's gonna be a Marshall Bob!
😄👍
Hey Jay, when the next video man?
Hi! I hoped to have at least one more single and video out by now but have been too busy to get it done. I have two songs in mind to release next, one with a lyric video and another regular video, then I will put out the whole album. I have another gear demo video mostly shot and ready for editing so that will be coming too. Thanks for checking up on what I'm working on!
What fuses does this amp use like model and size please I have one of these amps but not the fuses I need your help desperately thank you very much
What year is the amp? Thanks
My serial number starts with a W, so it is a 1988. Thanks for watching!
Witch model of footswitch is?
The footswitch doesn't have a model number on it that I can see. It's just a channel/reverb switch with a TRS connector. The original footswitch that came with it wasn't the best. It was plastic and had somewhat small switches. I gave it with my 2205 head I sold long ago. The one I have now is a lot more solid. Thanks for watching!!
I hate the factory switch. I need to get a new one lol
I wish ppl would say what guitar was..?
Sorry I didn't include that in the signal chain I listed. It's a 1997 Gibson Les Paul Classic which I loaded with a set of pickups that are standard in the Customs (490R/498T). I couldn't stand the stock pickups.
