@@GameTechPlanet Definitely glad it helps encourage! You do great work. I did run into a snag in the end but likely user error. It won’t launch the games I download… I click launch, it says running for a few seconds, then nothing happens. I’ll keep troubleshooting.
Now this is what you call a step-by-step guide ON HOW TO. This video has been great and followed everything to the point where I have the Epic Games launcher working. I've decided to install the games into my Steam Deck's 512GB SSD when it comes to Epic, Origin, Steam, etc and install the Emulators and Roms in my 1TB MicroSD. I believe that games for Epic, Origin, and Steam suits best for the SSD. Thank you so much for this guide!
Very thorough walk through! I just ordered my Steam Deck today so I am hunting down all the information I can find. Like you, I have many games on the different launchers so your tutorial will come in VERY handy once my Deck arrives. Thanks for taking the time to create this video to help us newbies.
I was a steam deck noob not long ago lol. Had to learn fast in order to start making videos. Congrats on the deck order. Love to hear back when u get to try it. Also if u need help never hesitate to join the discord for discussion as well
Thank you SO much for posting this. I was wavering between a Steam Deck and an Asus Rog Ally because I wanted to be able to play ALL of my games, and I wasn't sure Steam Deck could do that. What also makes the decision easier is the fact that the Rog is already having issues coming right out of the gate, and I don't want to have to deal with those. The only thing that would make this perfect is if it could play Switch games so I could get Animal Crossing. THEN it would check all of the boxes for me.
Heck yeah man, thank you so much! I couldn't get a game off of Ubisoft Connect through lutris and almost payed for the game on Steam tonight just so I could play it...but this video solved my issues for me!
Subscribed because this tutorial was excellent. Can't tell you how many I went through hoping someone would know how to install launcher games somewhere other than the internal drive.
Really good video. But this is why I gave up on PC gaming. I got tired of all the customizations. Hunting down files, having to organize files and folders. With desktops buying the latest graphics cards and upgrading storage. I just want to play my games. That why I went console only. Maybe I’m just old now. After doing all that headache I didn’t feel like gaming. But if I got back into the PC side of it this is a good video to get me acclimated again.
Awesome video, by far the best so far. I had Origin running before from another video, and I have Rockstar Launcher, but the only problem I'm having is when I installed GTA 5 is the commands I need to pass into the game so that I don't get hit with the 'Rockar Launcher isn't running'. Managed it on my Origin FIFA 22 install, but the same commands aren't working for GTA 5.
Yea EA is replacing Origin with the ea app. Its a bit of a mess. I am working on a video for it. But for now I believe Lutris and Possibly Heroic coukd be the easiest options. Looking into it.
Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but... I can't quite understand, what is the reason that you need to run the launcher installers from within the steam desktop app? Is it just a convenient way to run something under proton?
Everything is done thru steam like that. It runs the compar layers not the os. So you cant just install a program from desktop if its not linux and is a windows app. You could use something like Lutris as well but going thru steam is rly the way to go
Thank you man, I'm glad this will work essentially the same for all launchers. From what I can tell with your tutorial and comparing to others, it's pretty much always the same process, although some tell you to download that app to make SD cards recognised, but I like the simplicity of a command line better. One thing I'd like to know though, why must you run the setups as a Steam game? So you can choose to use Proton? Also, other vids I've seen say to use Proton Experimental on the launchers. I'm not sure which would work better or why. I'm pretty sure you can still select the games to run separately on whatever Proton though, if you add them individually with Boilr. I think. Damn, this is all so confusing.
@@rural_nerd thanks man. I've figured out a lot of things since. It can just be overwhelming for someone that hasn't been a PC Gamer in years and has never ever used Linux. It's a shame Steam Deck isn't quite as user friendly as it could be but, could be worse.
The thing is, this isn't technically what the steam deck is for, valve designed it to be handheld steam. It's only because it's a Linux pc, basically, that we can colour outside the lines and run other competing game launchers on the hardware. The craziest part is that valve is even allowing us to do it, considering they could go the Nintendo route and lock everything down.
@@rural_nerd yeah that's a point, it is the STEAM deck after all and is basically advertised as for running steam games. But valve also knows that PC is shittier in the way of game launchers and the fact that people will often have a mix up of games throughout different ones. So it'd still be a bit easier if it was Windows based originally or something, because then even for steam games it'd need less compatibility and protons etc.
Is there a way to put the game apps directly into my steam deck, or do I have to open up the launcher all the time? Also! I loved this tutorial! It was the most helpful set of instructions that I stumbled upon honestly, so thank you very much!
Great Tutorial Finally one that’s useful. One question thought after installing the game from epic games can we launch it right up from the launcher, or do I have to add it to steam use the proton compatibility layer and launch it from there? Again great tutorial it’s perfect.
I do have a mouse and keyboard setup for when i need. I can also output to my gaming montior at the same time as well. But most the stuff like what I did in this video wqs done all on deck without any accessories. Harder to do but always wanna make sure in a tutorial that anyone can do it and if accessories are ever needed I will say so. A mouse and keyboard will definitely speed u up thru this process tho.
Whenever I put in the Launch Options for my SD card in the Origin.exe my launcher won't open. I even have Force Proton enabled I'm using version 31 and tried others with no luck it's only when I remover the Launch Options command that it will boot up... Plus I can't seem to get Jedi Fallen Order to launch either it keeps saying that it needs to update... I'm a little lost.
I basically try them all if needed. But often start with experimental since no extra downloads of ge proton. If that doesnt work well i force the newest ge proton
Is there any way to uninstall cleanly those launchers afterward? Removing the games should be pretty straightforward since we decided where to install them, but what about the launchers?
Always uninstall the games from the launcher just as u would any pc. If u want to get rid of an installed launcher there is no “ uninstall “. You have to go find the long numbered folder its in and delete the folder.
Hi there, great tutorial! Could you please share all of the thumbnails and backgrounds in a zip folder? I'm having a hard time finding them one by one 🙏🙏
this thing is a nightmare to navigate, just to sign in to epic might take 30mins with how steam pops up and blocks stuff and keyboard blocks the screen, so bad.. the videos act like its all smooth, he is using a hardware keyboard and mouse plugged into the steam deck is why. see how his soft keyboard never pops up. The steam UI is really annoying to use when you are starting out, its frustrating me like crazy and im a tech guy lol
Whenever I go to install the Origin/EA launcher it goes through the installation process and I'm left with a greyed out screen where the login should be. Is that normal?
Thanks for this vid, quick question : Why some people installs Epic via Heroic launcher instead of doing "non-steam game" like you? Is there any pros/cons? Thanks
There are some pros and cons. Im actually working on the heroic video now. Hopefully will have it up this week for ya. I still prefer this method and epic this way but heroic does work well to.
Does launching through steam work better vs launching Battlenet itself as a separate app? Explanation? I plan to install windows 10 on my deck once I get it.
Great video dude, is it still only Windows OS installs that would get you playing the Call Of Duty titles right now, or is there a way to run on SteamOS, just regarding the anticheat, I say as I wouldn't want to install Blizzard if its not possible...thanks
Going to the origin page provides no option to actually download. Wish that was the one you showed how to download. Seems like there was another step you needed to take to get origin but just skipped right to already having it. Anyone know why origin has not download option?
No I didnt skip anything. I didnt have ro do anything special to downlaod from origin. Once installed and launched i could download and install games no problem
Games u should uninstall from the launchers. The actual launchers tho u cant “ uninstall “ just go delete the whole conpatdata folder for the prospective laucher u dont want
Absolutely its the same now except EA cause they dont use origin anymore. But with proton 8 / experimental you can install the new ea app now with this same exact process. Any problems just let me know. Can also join up in the discord for help. Few deck owners in there

For me it's not working, as soon as I open the Epic Launcher a window appears asking to install the online services, and once that window appears I can't use the trackpad anymore unless I minimize the window using the touch screen. The touch screen doesn't seem to let me accept or cancel the installation.
Have you tried doing this part on desktop. Thats what i did. Full setup of launchers from login to setup and updates. Whatever. Do it all on desktop mode then go back to game mode
Dead by daylight doesn't seem to work on the deck when installed from epic games. Something to do with the eac client. Could anybody help me on that? This is also a great video.
So if you want to use your internal Steam Deck drive all you have to do is NOT add that command line or is there another command line for the internal storage?
For internal storage u dont have to do anything. Doesn’t matter if command line is there or not. When u are in the launcher downloading a game u can pick what drive to download to.
Hello GameTechPlanet!! Awesome vid, however, when i first start the epic games launcher and try to log in, it won't let me open up the keyboard to authentificate.
Question about the Controller Layout on 14:00. When I search for community layouts it doesn't show anything. It says "We couldn't find any layouts" Can you help with that? :D
@@GameTechPlanet Figured it out. The name for my launcher was still EpicGamesLauncher.exe. Once I changed it to Epic Games, Steam detected the community layout uploads under that name :D

hey, when i play FF7 intergrade it would say launch through epic games store, how do I play the game via a direct link (with custom artwork) in steamos? without launching the EGS
Having an issue where I can't use the trackpad at all on the epic games launcher and in the games. Is there a workaround for this? I was trying to play prison architect where the use of the trackpad is pretty essential throughout.
There are different prebuilt control schemes in the controller settings. U can also do remapping of your own. I use a community built scheme for epic that works perfectly
Hi, I followed your guide and it worked for installing and it launches perfectly. The problem that I have is with the controller layout you have; it isn't appearing for me to apply the layout you're using and because of that I haven't been able to use it.

The touch screen doesn't seem to let me accept or cancel the installation.
Have you tried doing this part on desktop. Thats what i did. Full setup of launchers from login to setup and updates. Whatever. Do it all on desktop mode then go back to game mode
Thanks for the great video. Is it possible to install and run individual games without these launchers, from my own backups of games?
Dead by daylight doesn't seem to work on the deck when installed from epic games. Something to do with the eac client. Could anybody help me on that? This is also a great video.
Thank you!
Is installing the games this way better than going through windows in terms of performance? I still don't know much about how proton works
Besides lutris or heroic this is rly the nly / best way for linux. If your installing windows on your deck you dont have to worry about any of this
So if you want to use your internal Steam Deck drive all you have to do is NOT add that command line or is there another command line for the internal storage?
For internal storage u dont have to do anything. Doesn’t matter if command line is there or not. When u are in the launcher downloading a game u can pick what drive to download to.
Hello GameTechPlanet!!
Awesome vid, however, when i first start the epic games launcher and try to log in, it won't let me open up the keyboard to authentificate.
Hello, wich Proton version I need to run Epic Launcher 15.1 ? I tried at least with 10 different GE-Proton, none of them works. Thanks !
You you have to install windows on the deck to dl epic installer, etc ?
With this guide theres no windows
Question about the Controller Layout on 14:00. When I search for community layouts it doesn't show anything. It says "We couldn't find any layouts" Can you help with that? :D
Thats rly odd. Have ypu checked for system update or done a restrat of ypur deck and rechecked?
@@GameTechPlanet Figured it out. The name for my launcher was still EpicGamesLauncher.exe. Once I changed it to Epic Games, Steam detected the community layout uploads under that name :D
I put this video on 75 speed, and I still had to pause and go back at points lol
Lol. I tried to pack in a lot of info
@@GameTechPlanet true, I was able to get through it so thanks for the tutorial it really helped me out!
Does the same steps still apply to link your your Ubisoft account to your steam account.
Hard to answer because one has nothing to do with the other. This tutorial doesn’t have to do with any account linking. That’s different
Ok thank you 🙏
Followed every step and even managed to download the games - Genshin impact and fall guys - even managed to download the resource pack for Genshin ... but Genshin just refuses to launch! Why???
Genshin is blocked and doesn’t work on steamos. Only way I know to play it on a deck is to use windows or cloud gaming.
hey, when i play FF7 intergrade it would say launch through epic games store, how do I play the game via a direct link (with custom artwork) in steamos? without launching the EGS
Would this process work for xbox game pass/cloud gaming and for the minecraft launcher too? Just waiting for me deck to arrive!
I use a community built scheme for epic that works perfectly
oo video gelmiş hoş gelmiş :)
like'ımı hemen atarım haa adam olun :) (espiri'dir)
Hi, I followed your guide and it worked for installing and it launches perfectly. The problem that I have is with the controller layout you have; it isn't appearing for me to apply the layout you're using and because of that I haven't been able to use it.
Does installing proton ge 28 overwrites the existing proton installed?
No it doesn’t just adds to the list. We also have much newer versions now
