I agree mate. I have absolutely nothing and am signed off work with a long term illness, but the thing that keeps me going is looking for cheap sailing boats. I want to get past my illness and then spend forever just sailing, preferably heading for the Caribbean to start with. I know it's a big risk, but that is something that adds to the excitement. I know it would be great to have lots of money, but most of those who've crossed the Atlantic before me have been poor, and only more recently has money been a big factor.

Hey! I'm looking at buying an old Cal 36 Cruising this summer. It's got a crack in the hull so it's a project boat. How far did you go sailing with yours?
Nice boat; I like the thickness and structural soundness. I like a longer, wider and deeper boat but this would work too; mainly because it’s so well built.

Your Yanmar diesel probably has glow plugs. let them warm for a minute and then start. I have a diesel tractor with glow plugs but does not start in cold weather. I spray some Ether in the air intake and then she starts every time. Ether comes in just a spray can and is here sold under the name quick start. Just see what they have at your auto motive supply store. Good luck . Nice boat.
Yanmars do not have glow plugs. Not the small ones anyway. Make sure you have clean fuel, clean fuel filters and make sure all the air is bled out of the fuel system first. You can find shop manuals online that will give you detailed instructions on how to troubleshoot issues and do maintenance. Good luck with her!
I may be making this comment after you fixed the cold starting issue. Replace the glow plugs. And check the vavle lash. If on vavle is not closing complete it will be hard to start as well.
I live kind of inland in Washington and I've always loved boats and the idea of sailing. I can't wait until I'm older when I can move and maybe even get a boat. Idk how you got such a good deal on this boat but damn.
Boats are a leisure time activity for most and in hard economic times anything considered a "toy" like a dune buggy, dirt bike etc. that is a substantial investment may go on the chopping block. Also, interest wanes for some people or a guy gets married to a woman afraid of water or just hates sailing. Even if not the case many sail boats stay in the water so berth and insurance fees are constant money draws. In extreme situations owners will save substantial money even if they give the boat away. So selling cheaply to make it attractive and derive some money from the deal can be a powerful incentive. Especially run down or small or excessively large boats where every cost is higher and every job more work.
Nice boat . I got mine very similar to yours cost about $1500 has yanmar 18 hp from 2011 but boat is very old 1968 and 30 ft long weight 4 tons so thick fiber glass of that era has already crossed Atlantic both ways . It has both types of self steering but no dog house but hatch isnt sliding just a door so tricky to enter but very good if the boat is flipped over the door will be able to stop water ingress hopefully . More narrow than yours in the mid section so space is is less than yours but i am self sailing so no big issue . It also has GPS and diesel heater .Well equipped for long distance sailing so hope to leave base camp here Ireland and sail Iceland Greenland Faroes Norway France Spain Canaries Med to Turkey Azores Cape Verde . Basically I need to try to stay few hours flying time from base in Ireland so limited to north eastern and mid eastern regions of Atlantic and Mediterranean for next few years . Maybe can go further in 2024. You did not say fuel consumption at 2000 rpm would you think its 2 liters per hour or more or less . What size is your prop and what gear ratio is the gear box . The five knots you get at 2000 rpm is that GPS reading or log reading . The log reading tend to be all over the place. The front the boat that sticks out is the bow sprit . The front berth cover you refer to is probably the bird feather duvet or a sleeping bag not sure the Swedish term. Beware the Yanmars they are mechanics wet dream in sailing boats as they often need fixxing because the majority the parts are not made for salt water so they rust like hell . There are stainless steel replacement or after market parts for them but they do not solve all problems . Keep a good eye on the Yanmar service them often and they give less problems . The Yanmars were built as industrial power units often to pump fresh water in agriculture and continuous running suited the Yanmar better . The sailing and not often use seems to cause problems . Modern Diesel fuel in communist controlled EU has to have 7% bio fuel in the diesel and this stuff creates havok in diesel engines with alga growth and blocking injectors . If you can stock pile non road diesel fuel often marked with colur non tax types as this often has no bio fuel in it . You might have to get that from the Russians or Lithuanians . Handle Russian fuel with extreme care its great fuel but stinks like hell and is probably lethal fpr cancer if it gets on exposed skin . Lithuanian diesel fuel can sometimes be cut down with too much kerosene which can create problems for injector pumps lubrication and also risks to be the crap oil that is rejected by the rest of the EU as sub standard fuel so risks to be low quality . You can get anti fungicide chemicals for diesel fuel but it isnt cheap and there are issues with non fuel elements in fuels . Water in the fuel is the biggest hazards so strain fuel before it goes into tanks and clean out the tanks completely when on the hard and consider extra fuel filters. Bad fuel with dirt or alga and water in fuel is the most common reasons for engines to not work. The cold start issues can be helped with using engine start ether fuel put some in the air intake . Also to make Diesel less thick in winter add small amounts of Gasoline Petrol Benzine to the diesel fuel less than 5% should do the trick or one liter to 20 liters of diesel . If the diesel is summer type sold in the summer it will probably not have any kerosene added to it . However winter Diesel has normally got up to 5% to 30% kerosene added to it to stop the diesel fuel from waxxing up or becoming to thick and helps to start engines faster in cold winters .To the best of my information Kerosene is really 1 part gasoline 7 parts paraffin so adding some petrol gasoline benzine to summer diesel is following that trend . However too much gasoline or petrol Benzine to diesel fuel creates lubrication issues for the high pressure pumps for the injectors as Petrol Benzine gasoline has not got lubrication qualities like Diesel fuel has .Best to fire the Yanmars up every few days just to keep things going when in the water and winterize them on land . I suspect the weight of your boat is like mine closer to 4 tons with very thick GRP . Glass fibre is 2.5 times heavier than marine ply of the same thickness and marine ply boats of this size would vary from 9 mm skins on sides down to keel and 6 mm for top sides and could come in weight of 2.5 to 3 tons on this 29 foot size . However the extra thickness comes in usefull in a force 12 hurricane if you get caught out there in it .. . Keep in touch might meet up in Norway I hope to be in Liddlehammer in july 2020
Is there a name for the layout where the galley runs down one side, deleting a couch? I like this style much more than some tiny corner galley near the quarter berth. It may not have a name but if It does I’d love to know.

Nice boat I have recently purchased a Mk 1 Pandora 22ft bilge keel yacht. It has a 4hp four stroke outboard motor with remote. I also have a spare 4hp four stroke outboard and have a 5hp two stroke motor on a dinghy that I will be towing wherever I go. Because of the size of my boat I could only get insurance for up to 12 nautical miles off the coast of the UK. I am going to have to join a local yacht club and move it from where it is. Basically I have to make passage for the whole of the Welsh Coastline to Bristol area hopefully Portishead sailing club in Pill or uphill sailing club in Weston-super-mare. I am not experienced and am nervous but if I have to motor sail it 800 miles I will. I have passed my radio course and I will make a video and post it when I attempt my first passage. The battery is probably full already so there's nothing to (re)charge, therefore the solar input is whatever the battery self-discharge or float charging rate happens to be, especially if you've been using shore power for everything else! The word you were looking for was "blanket", I think. What are those chainplates made of? Stainless steel would need to remain unpainted to not corrode, because it requires oxygen to remain stainless, so maybe they're aluminium? The thickness of the deck lamination sounds impressive but also puzzling! I wonder what the layup schedule in it is. The strength of a glass reinforced plastic composite depends on the length of the strands and the glass content vs. the matrix (the plastic). If they used biaxial or woven roving mats for most of it, that would help explain why only a few got made... but if it's chopped strand matting or, worst of all, gun shot chopped fibers, the actual glass fiber content would be much lower and mostly extra weight that doesn't contribute as much strength as a thinner lamination of good, long fibers does in a well designed layup with as little resin in it as you can get away with. It might consist of all of the above; who knows!
That long platform at the front of the boat is called a Bow Pulpit. The word Pulpit by itself just describes a raised platform where one can stand, like a clergy on a Pulpit where he speaks.
Almost everybody just uses the term “pulpit” in the marine context - in forty years around boats all over the world I have never heard anybody say “bow pulpit”
i would love to get a boat that size and do an over the top no expense spared restoration , seems they always lay these boats out for 4 people but if it was redone for just 2 my god the extra room and luxury features you would gain would be outstanding, but it blows my mind a boat that size can cross oceans , love your tiny ship !!!
Does the engine have glow plugs?? The things that you hold the key on for 10-20 seconds before starting. If so change them will help in starting a cold engine
Ocean Around they are situated near the injectors and should have just one wire joining them all together and then going back to a relay. A 8mm nut holds the wire on normally on each glow plug, once you have removed them you can check to see if they work by putting a wire from the top to a live terminal on a battery and then hold the thick part where you unfastened the plug to earth and it should glow red hot from the tip upwards, good luck and I’m just saying this in a general fact as things could vary on your engine and others depending on age blah blah blah
I have an old 15hp yanmar too. I had a hard time starting it to begin with too, but an old mechanical local legend showed me a great trick. Put the throttle on full. Maximum fuel. Crank with starter, and when it fires immediately reduce revs of course. Heaps of unburnt fuel/soot will come from the raw water exhaust cooling outlet for a few moments. But it starts well and quickly. I've never looked back knowing that trick. For more than 10 years now. Maybe it will work for you too. Cheers Rick
Dude, I love your spirit and have binged most of your videos but I think you ewally need to think about Linn. I miss her in your videos and she stuck with you while you sailed a tiny boat on a budget all the way around the world. It's time to upgrade for her. Check out LA Vagabond and Sailing Doodles. Happy wife = happy life. Good luck man
you are burning your batteries. epever says 15v- its not top its above top (14.36v normally for 12v) above 14.4v it starts to crystalize and emits hidrogen. this is what damage the battery ( undervolt below 11.8-12v too) so configure your charger to get a top on 14.4 and a low maximum of 11.9.. 11.7 (it need to go back by itself to 12 when all off ). and you have 5-10 years battery with no leaking or crystals.

I know this is over a year old but update the solar panels. Some newer ones will charge even when cloudy. Not as efficient, but they will charge
That long platform at the front of the boat is called a Bow Pulpit. The word Pulpit by itself just describes a raised platform where one can stand, like a clergy on a Pulpit where he speaks.
Correct. But in his defense, his English is a hell of a lot better than my Swedish.
Almost everybody just uses the term “pulpit” in the marine context - in forty years around boats all over the world I have never heard anybody say “bow pulpit”
also known as a bowsprit
@@OG_Gamers_Live
No, a bowsprit is a boom used to extent beyond the hull the effective sail length of the vessel.
i would love to get a boat that size and do an over the top no expense spared restoration , seems they always lay these boats out for 4 people but if it was redone for just 2 my god the extra room and luxury features you would gain would be outstanding, but it blows my mind a boat that size can cross oceans , love your tiny ship !!!
Very nice looking lines on that great looking sailboat.
Quilt duvet blankets . :)
Thats the word i was searching for! To good during cold autumn nights :)
@@SailingMalou A goose down Quilt will be warm but not god if it gets wet so maybe a synthetic quilt or sleeping bag that zips open flat.
@@SailingMalou A diesel heater will allow you live on the boat all winter and be good fore cool days also.
Do you ever see any other J29's for sail? I have been watching and have not seen any?
More. More. More. Haha. When do we get to see your adventures? Looking forward to your future videos. Good luck and be safe.
Yey! There will deffinately be more comming frequently now :)
Cheers!
Absolutely. Love the new sailboat. Built like a tank for safety. Very smart purchase.
Vad har du gjort med Simons mini båt? Den som han byggde till dig? Simon från skolan du jobbade på?
Den har en given plats på en hylla i mitt rum :)
: Very happy for you. You will get it all fixed up the way you want.
Thanks Idaho Rider! Its gonna be great :)
My boat is roughly the same size. Perfect for single handing.
Really sturdy stainless stansions for a boat of this size
That thing you slept under is called A ‘blanket’.
Cheers
That wich hangs off the bow, is the bow sprit, in English my friend!
What's the make and year of the boat ?
Does the engine have glow plugs?? The things that you hold the key on for 10-20 seconds before starting. If so change them will help in starting a cold engine
Im gonna check that! Thanks man :)
Cheers Rick
How big is the boat? Congratulations on your purchase.
Looks like shes a 30-something foot!
29 foot. Thanks Bill!
Good luck man
Thats an insane price! What boat is that and where are you located? I bought a 24ft good condition for 4000usd. But tons of sails atleast
Welcome back.. to some more sailing adventures.
That sail boat looks a great deal... $2000 and ready to sail!!!
It was almost given away :)
Cesar
Thanks Cesar! Yeah it was truly a great deal :)
Hello, the bit that sticks out at the front is called a bowsprit in english. Does is your boat have a cutter rigg?
3:20 you going replace proper? Its broken, big crack...
Nice layout, who’s the maker, make a seat that fits in the companionway, buy you a beer when you get to plymouth
Thanks Santa! Its designed by Jörgen Wallin. A Swedish boat designer back in the 70-s
Very inspiring, do you have plans by chance?
Gonna need a barrel of “Elbow Grease”. Never underestimate water..
What type of boat is that? Looks great
Its a JW29. A very rare Swedish design. I belive there is only about 10 boats built of this modell. And it truly is an amazing boat :)
Ocean Around Sounds great and quite rare. I’d say good catch! Fair winds
Very cool! Fun!!!
Heijssan skipper, did not see axel sinc, so far ?
cool video thanks for sharing~
Maybe try adding a heating pad to the oil pan bottom warm up the oil so she will start sooner
Or plug in block warmers that go in the freeze plugs, plug into shore power and warm up the coolant and surrounding metal .
Super happy for you.
Thank you Morgan :)
What type boat and is that the Market price or was it a deal?
Are you going to get that mildew/mold of the front chain locker? where is the mast? will it float why is the propeller so small.
If you cant make a positive comment why bother commenting at all!!!!!!!😡
Did you restore this boat or did you buy it as is?
you are burning your batteries. epever says 15v- its not top its above top (14.36v normally for 12v) above 14.4v it starts to crystalize and emits hidrogen. this is what damage the battery ( undervolt below 11.8-12v too) so configure your charger to get a top on 14.4 and a low maximum of 11.9.. 11.7 (it need to go back by itself to 12 when all off ). and you have 5-10 years battery with no leaking or crystals.
What is the roofheight inside in the cabin? Looking pretty height for 29' boat.
Its about 1.80 meters. So quite high yes :)
@@SailingMalou Thanks for info.
@@SailingMalou Do yoy know swedish boat COMFORTINA32?
What you can say about she? I expect to buy COMFOTINS32.
Before I was owner of COMFORT32 - but now is sell already. Looking to.more faster and more roomy boat.
@@janisspalvins677 Comfortina is a very capable boat for sure! I would say its slightly faster and better sailor than the Comfort 32. But when it comes to room they are quite similar.
I would choose the Comfortina :)
@@SailingMalou Thanks.
Maybe you can recomend some other good models with acceptable price - good sailors and good height inside in the salon 29' - 33'?
Nice video! What size is this boat?
thanks.
Kul att du fortsätter segla och göra filmer! Vi kanske stöter på varandra på havet till sommaren :)
Kul att ni gillar filmerna!
Det hoppas jag vi gör :)
Nice looking boat... Is this one larger the your previous one..?
Thanks John!
No this one is deffinately smaller and better for singelhanded sailing :)
You are always talking about single handed sailing, girl will stand in line to sail with such a nice and handsome guy!
Haha, well at the moment its gonna be single handed... But thanks Peter :)
What boat is that?
Kul :)
Köpte själv min första segelbåt i sommras.
Grattis Luftbubblan!
Sweet boat!! I subscribed
such a cool lil boat!
Thanks Greg!
Three years later, I must ask you how many of these repairs have you made? Do you still own this vessel? I apologize for not following your channel, but I really want to know.
Nice boat, I know you can not wait to go sailing :)
Thanks Kevin! So true :)
Try loading the boat down to the top of the antifouling and you will learn the real reason why it is painted so high.....
What make/Model is this please?
I still try to find this boat and even to Google it is hard to find the specs
Only 2K?? Seems like a great deal.
i would die if i came across this boat in america i would sell everything i own
Lots of better for cheaper
