Neil Young is a living legend, no one like him, absolutely the best! His music, tunes and voice are the soundtrack of my life! I saw him live twice in Rome, "Ippodromo delle Capannelle" in 1982 and in 2013: unforgettable! Thank you Neil for exisisting, you make my life plenty of joy...
Neil Young - one of the very best of us all. From "the Needle and the Damage Done," to this song, to "Harvest Moon" - his style and ability to write songs that touch everything in you - his work spans decades, and his legacy will live on far, far longer. What a catalog of songs!
I recall the day in the lunchroom at school when someone said Elvis Presley had died. It was around that time, within a couple years, that Neil came out with this song. This is a more recent performance but the song's the same. The really important thing is that he mentions Johnny Rotten, who I listen to quite a lot. I apologized to Rotten Johnny that someone might've damned him with faint praise. That wasn't Neil, who obviously digs mister Rotten and his sex pistols nearly as much as I do. Outta the blue and inta the black.

Here I am in 21. I never heard this song before. I asked my dad about Neil. He said “oh yeah he’s good” like what the heck dad, we’re you just gunna keep this from me?
You've got to explore that era yourself - not everyone was aware of how incredible artists like Neil Young were - there were too many others, far more splashy, to get 'hooked' (musical industry 'joke) on. Too many choices of genius, styles, and excellence, to draw people's attention away from "giants in the shadows" like Neil Young. He is like the "Zelig" of Rock musicians - he was everywhere, with so many people and bands, and from the very beginning, in Laurel Canyon - and before. People (some people) can only absorb a limited number of styles and artists - Young wasn't "pretty," he wasn't "fancy" - he was the Tower of Babel of Rock musicians - the Real Deal - with endless power, songs, and styles, and without the ego to match his gigantic footprint as a songwriter, and an (IMHO) under-rated electric guitar player and all-genre lyricist. There were so many groups lost in that time, that were so good, but it was like being lost in a nuclear explosion of incredible experimental musical fusion: far-Eastern beats introduced into Rock by people like George Harrison (the Sitar in Rock! - not the first, but the most studied and thorough), folk-rock, classical rock (like "Beck's Bolero") - did your dad introduce you to Jeff Beck? Alvin Lee? Arthur Brown, Robin Trower ("Bridge of Sighs" - like Hendrix in a dream)? It was such an explosion of incredible, original music, that much of it will be forever lost, like trees lost in a gargantuan forest, overgrown by other trees, and waiting to be discovered. Anyway, Neil Young? Nah, he wasn't "good" he was like a Shaman - he was the quintessential Rocker - the Ambassador of the spirit of it. Really glad you liked him. His 'roughness' is what makes him so good. DO listen - if you haven't, to his song "Harvest Moon." Masterpiece.
Sou brasileira! Eu amo esta canção. I am Brazilian! I don't know all the American American culture, much less my English is good. 😢But this mix, Blues, American Country and Rock, this song in particular moves me very much in the harmonica chords, I get goose bumps when I hear it. as always thank y'all Neil, Willie N .,and everyone who puts FarmAid together for so many years. Neil can strum that guitar so smooth and the wailing of the harmonica and the lyrics that have such a deep meaning, Wow! awesome Neil young

i love neil he is soo real. I could say i would want to see bon jovi more than any other band just cuz they are hot and great BUT it would have to be Neil Young if I was being honest with myself he just brings me peace when I listen to his music he is amazing ~
Bon Jovi writes songs that are easy to listen to and easily digestable..hard rock version of pop songs...NY on the other hand imo is a artist and writes lyrics from the gestalt of his personal experience. I think the well goes deeper with NY.
The song says it all love it listen to it feel it be one with the music ROCK and Roll will never Die thank for all ur great music u have shared with all of us R.I.P NEIL YOUNG

Dedicating this song to my lost father. He was a huge fan and thanks to him for presenting me this awesome artist. Love u Dad.
Your dad must have been awesome.
Awsome is a good thing
the king is gone but is not forgotten....my father 💜👏👏👏👏
Tough to play the harmonica a guitbox at the same time
1:41 the hardest drop in music history. And world history. You rock Neil
1 full tone drop ?
When he starts playing harmonica at 01:41 and the crowd roars. . . goosebumps.
I know...wouldn't it be nice to be able to make music like that?
❤️👍🏼
Felt it
It’s better to burn out than to fade away, the king is gone but not forgotten.
"The King" was Elvis and he kissed Nixon's ass....
Rock and Roll is here to stay...rock and roll will never die
Better to burn out than to fade away!!!! such poetic lyrics..
I like the alternate line better: It's better to burn out than it is to rust.
A musician wrote this lyrics when he committed suicide.
