Picked up a Sharp TV off Craigslist with non working HDMI's. Had to replace the multiplexer switch IC chip to get the HDMI working on the 4 ports.
Also grabbed a 50" Pioneer Elite Kuro on Craigslist from someone in the Coquitlam area. Cant wait to get that up and running.
Love watching and learning from you and Norcal. Keep up the great videos.

Yes the multiplex chip is what I figure was the problem on this one. A cracked solder connection on it. As all 3 ports were not working I suspect it was the chip, which selects the desired input. That is why I resoldered it as well, and there was cracked connections on it just like the ones I showed on the ports, but the ports needed to be done as well. I have a 50 Panasonic plasma. I forget the model off hand, but it was the real expensive unit that had the separate box with all the HDMI and inputs, outputs ect, and the screen was connected by a special cable. One of these days when it warms up a bit I will look at that one.

I enjoy watching repair videos on you tube, during which I have seen lots, by lots of different techs, but I think you are the best by far, you amaze me with the wide electronics knowledge of anything electronic. and in your commentary how you explain in depth the circuits, how do you recall it all? I am a very big fan Dave and I bet you have many.

Well done :-D, What a bloody horrible connector.
    That microscope really helps :-)
Hdmi didn't need to be such a tiny connector on tv's, a 25 D connector would have been better, bigger pads and stronger.
Scart plugs/sockets were a pile of crap too, i thought they were a downgrade from so239 sockets. (yes i like coaxial better).

Very nice video and professional. So like you said the HDMI cable sometimes gets heavy and pulling the port, but usually the port are not that fragile right? If you plug back and forth few times or by pushing it in and out ... It's not going to damage it easily right? Cuz one of my old TV , about 10 years old ... One day when I accidentally touch the HDMI cable or tilt it ... The screen dim and like on and off .. and when I tilt it again .. it went back normal ... Does it mean the port got losen? Since then every time when I plug the HDMI cable to any TV ..I am afraid that I damage it ... Sometimes I need to move the cable cord a bit and I started to worry that when I move I will losen the port from the motherboard .. but I think they are quit secure and not that fragile
.. hope you can tell me ... Thanks again

Hdmi ports are fragile. The solder to the main board cracks. Using heavy monster cables makes the problem worse. Sharp tvs with the side mounted ports were really bad.

@@12voltvids thanks ... But as long as I'm not moving it often... It shouldn't be any problem right?

Deal with brioken charger port's and HDMI port's and sometimes multiplexer switch IC chip daily. I still don't get how people break them? I seen one even completly ripped out of a PS4 just yesterday, shockingly traces were still on the board. The worst to deal with as muiltlayer board is so thick and had to use alot of heat on both side of board which sucked.
Best and asy way to help prevent bridging. Is to use 0.025 to 0.020 diameter solder and to use alot of no clean flux and just drag across the pins with the bevel tip at a angle. Or just use the paste and add across pin and use hot air. Uusally just do these manually as can be quicker for me at least. Never use a pointed tip.

Thanks for the video, i have a smiliar samsung board that has 4 hdmi ports, plugging in an amazon firestick on all the ports and the TV recognizes it in the input menu but goes into a no signal message on the screen. I replaced the HDMI chip but still have the same issue. From your experience could one port be causing the issue or something worse like a processor issue.
    Thanks!

I had a lightning strike 10 m away from my outside TV aerial. Since then one of the HDMI ports on the back of the TV isn’t working. It was connected to a DVR recorder which was connected directly to the outside aerial. Is it possible that this would only take out one HDMI port or do you think something else calls the HDMI port to file?
    Cheers Wayne

It's an old Blackberry. I ported in a clock app years ago, and it drives the HDMI output (Blackberry had an HDMI out on the Z10, Z30 and Playbook tablet) The HDMI out goes to one of those cheap HDMI to AV converters, which drives a modulator and it hits the house cable. Since the phone still has a sim card, deactivated, it pulls network time from the cell network, and it accurate to GPS accuracy as the cell towers are all GPS synchronized. I have a few different clock apps I can run on it. Eventually the tube will burn in I am sure, but that will take awhile. I have had it running on another old monitor for over a year and no lasting effect.

Interesting video! I have a Sharp TV where only one HDMI connector is used but all of them have stopped working. I assume that's a chip problem as opposed to a fractured connector?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 лет назад

Yes I suspect it was a broken connection on the chip on this one as well, but it was obvious that the ports were loose as well as they were visible.
I did the chip as well, but didn't gets shots of it due to a bad camera angle.
I did show it at the end before powering up. Set working great now.

Hey, I’ve been looking all over (evidently in all the wrong places!) for an answer to my problem. Samsung Plasma TV 550 series, works fine and the started to bugger up. The problem is the will display certain device ie Xbox 360, but not ps3. PS3 works on other TVs ... I’m at a lost. If the ps3 « works » and I use all the same configuration as of Xbox (same port same HDMI cable) why won’t the signal pass?? Please any ideas??

16:06 There is a bridge ball on hdmi port legs, which you left accidentally. You're pointing that spot with your nail. Too bad that this is old video and it is too late. Or maybe those pins (legs) had common trace, so there was no point to separate them.
