    The song is one of the most definitive of the era, it deserves to be recognised as such. No More Heroes is just as important as God Save The Queen or White Riot in 1977. JJ explains it all very well. A great song, it still sounds fresh today.

    First saw the stranglers live in 1979
    The last time 2019..... and loads of times in between. They are without doubt the best live band I've ever seen... and they seem to get better everytime I see them. J.J Burnel is by far the best bass player I've ever heard.

      I envy you, 1979 at their peak, and your right JJ is the best. I finally seen them in 1990 and left for Australia to live, they were going to tour here and i thought great, then Hugh Cornwell left 😪

    JJ was my hero as a kid, I tried to copy his hair etc..was I a true punk? probably not because the Stranglers weren't really a true punk band..were they subversive? hell yes! I identified with them because they were mostly middle classed guys like me and educated. I was 15 and loved everything they did. I remember in 1978 in Brighton, JJ was looking me straight in the eyes, jumped off the stage and put his face about 3 inches from mine..I guess he could tell that someone had a bit of hero worship going on and just made a shy young dude feel empowered. Punk, new Wave ..whatever you want to call those days..I'll repeat..it empowered shy young boys and made us feel like Kings for a moment (my folks despised them lol)

      My 'heroes' aren't musicians, that's for sure. They're people who do socially altering things in the fields of significant areas. Even The Stranglers claimed 'no more heroes'

    To call JJ Burnel "the bass player" is equivalent to calling Vivaldi a violin player.

    JJB and the band were very good and a proper live band with lots of talent, the 70s had the lot.

    The Stranglers have unfortunately been written out of most books/features of the punk scene (along with the Damned) even if they were one of the top players . They didn't fit in with certain peoples views and perspectives of the time which is a real shame.

    Well, the new singer has been a Strangler for 13 years! I saw them down here in OZ last December and they were very good, much better than i expected and the new songs fit into the set alongside the classics nicely. BAZ looks good, he sings well and plays guitar better than Hugh.Of course Hugh is missed, he over estimated where his solo career would take him and he went in a different musical direction, but the Stranglers don't need him anymore, the last 3 last albums are testimony to that!

    @Onthewires1234 Now it is Hugh who drags the corpse around playing a set that is 70% Stranglers songs with no keyboards to about 150 people a time! It's never easy replacing an iconic singer, but Hugh wanted to crack America( it was never going to happen) so he got bored and decided to go it alone. It hasn't worked, now The Stranglers continue on and still produce good albums. Suite 16 was great and Giants is sounding very good also. The Stranglers no longer need Hugh Cornwell.

      Another "Laughable Comment" From the Crowd that still Follows the Relic! The Show was over Yonks ago even before Hugh Left Theyd a 4 Year Hiatus between albums They ran out of Ideas..Whens the last decent Bass Line Burnels done? Or a decent Greenfield Keyboard Run? Probably as far back as the Raven nearly 40 years ago now They were on the Downhill when they Joined Epic Records.'

    @damehyndman No More Heroes was an anthem for the era,what a pity both Cornwell and Burnel could not be together to talk about this wonderful song.Cornwell preferring to travel to America every 6 months and play in front of 150 people a gig! It was Cornwell's obsession with America that saw him lose his musical edge and leave the band,he has lost the fire in the belly and everything that made No More Heroes great has deserted him.Cornwell & Burnel was a perfect musical partnership.

      I thought he left cos he was sick of JJ thumping him! They did have some success in the US. People have put videos on You Tube saying the concert was in America, they were there, and it was great. Perhaps, just not chart success, but the US is a massive country, and it is hard to crack. They didn't have many Top Ten hits in the UK, either.

  • @mr.magister5531
    @mr.magister5531 12 лет назад +1

    @damehyndman Cornwell was the main songwriter, t least 60% of them anyway.The change of direction was his idea,Jet's use of electronic drums was normal practice back in the 80's.It was either that or the horrible fat sound often used by American middle of the road acts in the 80's,that fat drum sound has dated badly.Hugh wanted USA success, he was also tired of the image, they even considered changing their name! They lost their edge & no doubt became disconnected with each other.
