Still crazy that the dad had his kids under such a f up mindset where one of the kids would reply “it’s just a prank” as a response to the horrible shi they went through
Yeah. Mike is absolutely evil for making the lives of his kids a living nightmare, especially for Cody being an easy target for something that isn't even his fault.
What's really sad is kids who grow up in that kind of environment tend to normalize it and legitimately think there's nothing wrong. My mom is a family therapist and she's seen it multiple times, and I myself have seen it in my cousin who's mother (my aunt whom I hate) is a narcissist. My cousin has recently begun therapy and is working through the process of realizing how effed up the way her mom treated her was, and this is something a lot of abused kids go through. It's incredibly tragic, but hopefully the kids have all gotten the help they need to realize just how messed up it all was and know now that it wasn't just a prank.
It goes a bit deeper too. In their “blocking all the haters” video, their youngest kid Alex talked about how his parents convinced him that this one video of him having a breakdown would get a lot of views, so he should be OK with uploading it, and took the fact that it got a lot of views in stride, not even thinking about whether or not he may come to regret it in the future, when he’s older and has more of a perspective of the scope of these kinds of things
Mike and Heather actually tried to instill this mindset into their kids, that they were famous RUclipsrs. That status was quickly used against them in situations where they were acting up, like Mike once told Cody “even your fans are asking what’s wrong with you!” In the video “Jake crushes Cody”
@@Jfam11638 They can deny it all they want, but I guarantee from a clinician's standpoint, that whole situation was Abuse City. It seems Heather's kids are still buying into it which breaks my heart, especially since that sort of abuse often repeated on future generations. I can only pray that one day they wake up and stop the cycle, and I pray Cody and Emma are doing better too.

No child deserves to live this way, a camera being shoved in their face in their most intimate and embarassing of moments. If my own abuse was on the internet for all to see, I don't know how I would cope. Wishing Cody all the best in life. I've seen the way certain children are made to be the scapegoat of the family like this. It's heartbreaking, and so infuriating.
What's extra crazy.. the more channels exposing them.. the worse it is. Just like why women often don't want to go to cops when they are raped.. everyone will hear about it.
From someone who worked with DV/SA victims… Cody is being coached to all these “im not being abused” his answers are just too complicated for a question like that. And whatever mom is in the video asking questions is asking a lot of questions that would lead to coaching.
The fact the parents thought what they were doing is ok is proof people should have to take tests about how they will parent before they’re allowed to have children
I think that would turn into eugenics pretty quickly. I don't know what the solution is, but I don't know that this is it

I think we need to get more into the root of WHY these cycles happen, which is mostly rooted in intergenerational violence and cycles of violence and poverty. Not any easy issues to tackle, but I believe thats where we would find the most results

I'm a mom to an autistic toddler. When I see my son is upset, and especially when it's something I've done to cause the upset, naturally my instinct is to immediately get on my sons level and hug him and try explain to him/ask him questions. My instinct is to nurture and love him and acknowledge his upset. I will never understand how a PARENT doesn't have those same feelings and reactions to their upset child...

i was 11 or 12 when those guys blew up and i remember watching that shit go down, looking at it years later its obvious how disgusting these parents were.

Cody was the most vulnerable, the boy must be around 15-17 today, he's old enough to be aware of the obvious abuse he and Emma underwent for so long. He's so embarrassed he remains silent to the public eye, I don't blame him.

There’s honestly something to be said about how these videos got so popular because they reflected a lot of our homes growing up during the time they were popular. The fact it was a family that wasn’t rich and their house looked like ours, was a huge reason why a lot of boys at my school watched it and thought it was funny. I wonder a lot if the abuse was apparent or we as 12yos just thought it was WWE type of stuff.

There was a literal video they made where they shamed Cody for being sent home early from school because he was SELF HARMING
Whether this is faked or not, it doesn't matter, they still show the mark on his arm, it'd still require him to hurt himself to make a stupid youtube video, but I highly doubt it, anyone who defends these horrible parents are immediately people that I NEVER want to even interact with, in any way.
There are technically worse channels, but this will forever be my least favorite, no matter what.
It's obviously real to me considering the fact that Cody actually did hurt himself as evident with the markings. If it's considered as "fake", then the injuries are made of make-up.
DaddyOFive's legacy will always be a cautionary tale.

The thing that tipped me over the edge was when Cody was self harming and the "dad" berates him and calls him stupid, I've dealt with that myself and it is terrible
I remember months before the scandal I stumbled upon the channel and being quite disturbed. I commented something like, "Why is everyone acting like this stuff is okay? Is no one else concerned?"
Man, I feel so bad for Cody, that kid didn't deserve that kinda shit for as long as he did. I do hope he is doing much better
Cody is already doing better as he and his sister moved with their biological mom after winning the custody, and Mike and Heather's reputation will forever be tainted.

You have to wonder what kind of abuse the kids were going through that their first reaction is “I didn’t do it” compared to “it must be another prank”

it's crazy how the family never sincerely came forward and actually explained what was going on behind the camera. The father and the step mom, being the main reason to this drama, making "pranks" aiming towards Cody since it strikes him more than the others, explains how his mental health could/was getting worse and his outbreaks got more aggressive.
It was really nice to see somebody actually do a deep dive of this. As somebody who has gone down the do5 rabbit hole I constantly see videos where people don't show full context of some of the pranks or talk about the biological mother's weird antics.

I see my therapist tomorrow and then immediately afterwards go into work to do some paperwork so I can get a leave of absence for my mental health. I am absolutely terrified to step foot into my job. But I really need to get this stuff done. It's definitely scary and a stressful environment. I'm gonna do anything to avoid my department. But thank you so much. The fact that you understand what it's like brings so much support to me. I wouldn't wish this type of feeling on anyone.

I feel bad when I was younger I used to wacth them at the time I assumed they were all fake and Never realized how harmful it could actually be to the kids I remember coming back to their channel after a few years later and how shocked I was that they got their kids taken away , I hope those kids have healed from this

As someone who struggles with mental health and nd-spec, it's so frustrating seeing parents exploit their most vulnerable children for the sake of entertainment to a complete group of strangers or even at ALL. Also, of course a CHILD is going to follow what their parents want them to do, follow their older sibling, or get used to negative behavior if it's being done constantly.
This and like many other reasons is why I despise family channels, there's nothing wrong with vlogging your time with your family to share with your audience but when it gets to a point you're willing to abuse and use your children for shits and giggles or farming views/money is repulsive.

I remember seeing these videos when I was younger and even then I got a terrible vibe from the videos, I can’t imagine how much trauma these parents caused these kids! They were basically having mental illness pushed onto them through their parent’s instability. Really sad, I hope the kids are doing better now.

Let's not forget the meddling and interference from some toxic creators, like JoySparkleBs. She harrassed both Rose and her lawyer and almost caused Rose to not gain back custody of her own children. Joy is toxic and very full of herself. I recommend looking into her and seeing the weird things that happened around this time. I used to watch her (unfortunately) and she nearly caused Rose to lose this case and her children.

@@rosenrot234 yeah, there's an entire history of her claiming to talk to angels, being an "indigo child" , taking a bottle of vitamins and putting another label on it ( she was claiming them to be prescription meds but they were not) there's so much out there about her. I mean, on one hand, I feel for her bc she's so mentally unstable but on the other, she took things too far, took advantage of other people's trust and was overall kind of mean. Being mentally ill is no excuse for bad behavior.

Ohhh, I could never. If I was one of those kids... especially Cody, who they use as a pranking punching bag... well... it wouldn't be as funny what the aftermath would be. It's just further vindication why some people don't deserve to have children. And I REFUSE to use his mental issues as a cushion of being such an insufferable person. Same goes for the wife who went along with it.

When I first started watching daddyofive I had to be like 11-13 years old. And my first exposure to it was the YTP versions.
I just thought it was all an act and scripted. It wasn't until I actually started paying attention to Cody, and I realized either he's a world class one of a kind child actor, or he's really not in on the "prank".
