The worst thing about the ventriloquist one is that it's highly implied that "Sally" is supposed to represent a girl that's sexually abused by the man who controls her, which explains the emotional distancing, lack of focus in class, and how he's always uncomfortably close to her. She can't speak up because his power over her molds her into his own special puppet and not even her mother can help her from it. Super creepy stuff.
I picked up on that so fast because I have had a lot of friends in college who were those girls at one point. It kinda disturbed me in a broken heart kinda way
The one where the chef’s face gets melted off is terrifying, her screams sound SO real that it chills me every time. Even the makeup looks so realistic… it’s a really well-done PSA.
That last one is the one that shook me, the happiness in the child’s voice at first slowly turning into distress, the mothers face as she listens slowly displaying lack of hope. It was a quick and dark turn
I remember seeing the "Back To School Essentials" and initially thinking it was just your typical back to school supply ad, until kids started running for their lives. I was genuinely confused for a hot minute until it finally processed and went, "Oh, it's a PSA." Also, "Stairs" hit close to home. Holy shit. I'm usually not easily disturbed but this one made me feel something, specially when the husband was yelling and complaining over something so trivial like dinner.
At first I thought it was gonna switch from the kids showing their back to school stuff to a kid who didn't have anything new to bring :/ as in his family couldn't afford it and he gets bullied or something idk, but YEESH I was NOT expecting that turn of events.
And was done by the actual kids from Sandy Hook elementary school survivors. The girl in the bathroom had a very hard time doing the scene, she was so brave to redo her experience on that day. The behind the scenes breaks your heart, you can actually find it on RUclips.
"Stairs" hit extremely close to home for me, as I come from parents exactly like that. They don't harm me, but the stuff that happened in the commercial is basically stuff I've been through most my life. Luckily I've moved on and found myself a boyfriend who I love so very much.
@@DrRandomVZT Yea, same here. They may not cause any physical harm towards us, but they do psychologically, they harm us regardless. They're pretty much part of the reason I'm afraid of being in a relationship.
@@alphasam7737 PSA stands for "Public Service Announcement", they're announcements that are shown to the public, typically through TV commercials, with the purpose to spread a message or give awareness to a social issue in hopes of stopping said issue or encourage people to seek help.
As an ACoA, the alcohol abuse commercial showing the child’s perspective is pretty accurate. Just constant fear and discomfort, even when you grow up and escape.
@@kenkaniff8428 ACoA means “Adult Children of Alcoholics”! It’s basically a group of people who want to recover from the trauma they faced from an alcoholic parent (or parents).
reminds me of this one American psa about what to do in the event of a nuclear attack. it was so light hearted, just covered how to wash radiation off of yourself and keep it away. the problem is that they basically treated it like a storm or something, ignoring the fact that people will likely die and that you’d need to get rid of the body to keep yourself safe as well. it’s just not a good psa.
Im gonna make it worse for you At a point they gave up on graves and went for mass graves. Even for their family. Because they were running out of time for their own safety and energy.
Look, motherfucker nobody thinks your cool for this. This doesn't boost your fucking popularity. It isn't a "SiGmA" move to laugh at dying children being mass murdered. Get your head outta your ass, go back to fucking kids, cause clearly that's all your capable of doing.
@@crazydud3380They don't. In the case of the Rwandan genocide it's hundreds of years of tension between the Hutu and the Tutsi. When the order was given out, literal neighbours began killing each other.
I watched the baby monitor one a few years ago when I was watching scary PSAs. It disturbed me to my core and I've never seen anyone talk about it. The stairs one was too real, man. The way the woman says, "I'll be quiet, I'll be quiet." She portrays panic so well. It really hit me because that's how I sound sometimes during a panic attack. The kitchen PSA I watched in my culinary class.
I’ve said this exact words, like you beg and beg your abuser to stop; saying you’ll do anything, offering whatever, it was really hard to see the baby watching that. My kid was 2 when we went through it.
I used to watch PSAs and not flinch. It was like "yeah yeah, ok just don't screw up, whatever." Nowadays though... well, now I have a toddler. Any of these with kids now hits so different, I cannot even describe it.
I am so sorry I am not a victim but I deeply feel sympathy towards you, the baby monitor video was so haunting I almost threw up I wish every victim speaks up and fights back but I know how hard it is to do that so my only advice is stay strong and keep trying your hardest.
It's infuriating how many people willingly hurt children in their formative years. That's one of the worst times to be exposed to cruelty as it can warp their perception of others, even those who are benevolent are not to be trusted in their eyes. I am so sorry for what you went through. I hope you recover and your assailants get what they deserve. Be it instant, or over time.
I’ve thankfully had no experience with anything like that and I couldn’t get through it. I can’t imagine how fucked up anyone would have to be to do that. Sorry you had to go through that
as someone who hasn't suffered through SA i'm sorry for you, this even got me. It made it so hard to watch through it especially cause the girl said hello dad. The bed creaking freaked me out even more and thats what scared me.
The last two really rattled me. I was gonna cry. It was just too real. The voice acting and acting by the characters witnessing or hearing what was happening really got to me. The fact that this stuff really happens hurts a lot.
I think part of what makes psas so scary is that they depict tragic events just.. straight up. Like, idk. Horror movies use so much over the top gore and theres supernatural aspects and like thats scary but its very fake- but seeing somebody cry over a dead child, hearing very realistic screams from a woman suffering severe burns, seeing bodies that have been changed by real diseases that happen to real people- like ghosts don't have anything on that. You're seeing something you know you could see in real life one day if you aren't careful, or if you just arent lucky
I feel like the "Is There Anybody Out There?" psa would need some background info to understand it well. It uses a Pink Floyd song in the psa, from their album The Wall. The album deals with some themes of depression and loneliness as it tells a story of a musician who builds a metaphorical wall around them. So if you understand that, the message becomes a bit clearer. In the movie they made for the album, there is an animated scene that is similar to the psa as well, where a face screams trying to come out the wall. So I wonder if they got inspired from that.
My thoughts exactly. Sure, people know of Pink Floyd, but knowing ALL of that stuff just to make a PSA make a little bit of sense? Lots of work for the audience member.
i feel like it’s just a bad PSA overall. it needs an in-depth explanation for it to make sense and a lot of people don’t have the attention span to sit though the whole PSA, let alone an explanation
@@leonhh478 What do you mean? PSAs are still everywhere now. It doesn't always have to come in a video format. It just means "Public Service Announcement". It can be a poster, campaign, etc.
When I was elementary school I saw a PSA about sex trafficking during the ad break of my cartoons. It was a teen girl wearing makeup and revealing clothes just kinda staring into the camera blankly like she had been given downers.
As someone who lives in Florida, the “Back to School Essentials” PSA is basically the reality of being a student here. I’m 22 now but I grew up experiencing lock downs and lock down drills, also hearing about local schools being sh0t up while I’m in class. We are just expected to go to school and there’s nothing that we can do, we’ve slowly become desensitized to it because our state government hasn’t ever addressed it like they should.
Already 3 kids sended school threats, one bomb threat from a kid, and sombody brought a knife to school and tried to stab someone. Six grade middle school. Florida.
I remember once there was a lockdown, and of course the teacher said it was a drill. It wasnt. We all hid and I hid under the desk next to the teacher, and she was shaking. Luckily it was a mistake but once I realized it wasn't a drill, I started crying.
It’s kinda just like that all over America there was a bomb threat and a gun threat sent into my middle school last year and a gun threat sent in this year not to mention that the high school my friend is going to next year had someone stabbed in the halls
that last one, it shakes me to the core to hear that child screaming "NO NO NO" and the mother's face. i have no idea what the emotion she had, it wasn't conveyed as one emotion but a frankenstein of every negative emotion known to man. its horrified me more than any gore video i have seen.
I’m really glad you didn’t downplay any messages of the PSAs. It’s really relieving that you didn’t make jokes out if it in disagreement and presented them extremely well. It helped convey the messages. Amazing video, dude, I love your videos so far.
The “Monsters” one really spoke to me. My father has been an alcoholic since before I was born, and is a very angry drunk. Because of this, I never formed any kind of parental attachment (or whatever it’s called) to him. All my life it’s been like living with a stranger. A real, human, monster of a stranger. I was terrified of him, and the results of his drunken rampages over the first 15 years of my life have caused mental problems I will never recover from. He quite literally ruined my life; I cannot function well enough to be independent, even as an adult. Because of my age and the fact that I have a GED, I can’t get on disability because I’m “young and educated”, so that means I’m fine, right? No. It does not. I can’t even go outside without (if I’m lucky, only almost) having a mental breakdown. Can’t leave my own bedroom without being paranoid. And I’ll be stuck this way forever, thanks to him.
im a month late but i relate to this comment so much. pretty much exact same boat but instead it was my mom. ive been traumatized to pretty much becoming a shut in because i still haven’t recovered from what happened. its so genuinely infuriating thinking about what kind of person id be now if it weren’t for her.. you’re not alone though 🤝 know things wont be like this forever and remember to be kind to + take care of yourself and take life one day at a time. hope you’re doing okay lately, we’re in this together
@@tumultoustortellini I have, but he doesn’t believe in that sort of thing. At the moment he’s willingly drinking himself to death because it’s still all he cares about ^^;
@@SunEater0 I meant you and the person above my original comment. My bad, bad wording. Even if you can't fix him, you can fix yourself. You deserve a better life, even if you have to make that life yourself.
Can we please talk about the free hearing test? Cuz I've got some words for that shit. One thing about me: I love hearing other people laugh. It brings me joy. But to think that anyone would have such a sick mind to interpret that not as a child's reaction to something silly, but that?! It makes you ask the question: what if this was you? 10/10 cannot watch again
i was listening to that and from the beginning i thought it would be inappropriate noises, but the laughter? i was honestly waiting for something else but when the lady started talking i was like 🤢
yeah because i thought "okay theres a girl laughing or giggling at something..." and then all of a sudden *do you hear a little girl having an orgasm?*
@@CandyFoxxleDoesYT fr i was like "sounds like my little sister when i tickle her" and then it said that- the fact that it reminded me of my 5 year old sister giggling at being tickled is the worst part to me
I saw the school shooting one on TV on a cartoon network. I thought is was an ad at first and kinda pissed me off that Texas where I'm at has barely any restriction. When I was in school we had tornado drills later on I found out that kids today have shooting drills. I still have siblings in school so that alone shocked me enough to have have nightmares for sometime.
wow, I think that "Drowning" psa unlocked some childhood memory, because i remember seeing that (or a very similar) psa as a kid. did not make the connection it was about huffing lol i probably took it literally as being about drowning glad I passed the "audio test" one because I can't fathom how the HELL anyone can hear... the other option. and I never wanna hear the last one ever again, thx tho
One of the reasons Stairs is powerful is because you can't see the domestic abuse. All you have to go on is the sounds in the other room and the child's reaction from seeing it. Although, I would wager he can only see glimpses of it as the fight passes into and out of his field of vision. The scariest things are often times not graphic. It's whatever can't be seen and only heard.
There's been a few PSAs like, Julie knew her killer. This kind of opened my eyes of the dangers that unbuckled backseat passengers could pose to those in the front of the car.
The school shooting one literally makes me cry every time So horrible that it’s really a reality and so “normal,” it could’ve happened to me just a few years ago…
Jesus.. the back-to-school one just made me ugly cry. Both as a kid growing up when columbine happened, AND a mother of a girl who just graduated high school, those kinds of things mess me up so hard.
Julie Knew Her Killer freaking STILL haunts me. Like, this was one of those PSAs that my parents would like distract me so I didn't watch, it freaked me out that badly. Also, dunno what country that last one is from but man do they not fuck around.
There's one called Jacqueline that will always haunt me. I only saw a poster of her at some gas station in my town when I was little and I was scared shitless. Even as an adult I can't bring myself to watch the ad even if it's on PSA comps. I feel awful because it's not her fault the accident happened but I was a weird kid back then lol.
The back to school psa made me tear up. As someone who live in the us is it hard to go a school year without having to worry about the school being shot up and my peers or me being hurt or killed because of a fucked up person. We need stricter gun laws and to teach people how people can be horrible people.
Regarding 'Is anybody out there?', the voice repeatedly asks "Is anybody out there?" and the person behind the wall is trying to break through it and scream but can't. The only response is the silent "Yes" that appears on screen near the end. I think it's supposed to show how hard it is to get through your own barriers of wanting to deal with everything on your own, being ashamed of your illness and what it did to you and feeling like no one can hear your cries for help and that nobody can really understand how it is. Also many people who initially offer their help give up once they realise mental illness isn't pretty or easy for anyone involved. It's supposed to show how much effort it takes for someone mentally ill to do basic hings healthy people don't have to put any effort in. It's hard to understand how easier it is to just give up and sleep through another day instead of facing the world for a 'normal' person, and that someone doing their best doesn't mean the same results for everybody. Sometimes us doing our best is just living through another day, eating a meal or two and brushing our teeth.
Man, i lost my mom to heroin and the living hell ones made me so sad. She was trying to manage her withdrawals, but was given the wrong drug, and she overdosed. She was trying to quit for me, so she could raise me, and seeing the specific symptoms she put herself through… I love her so much. Hope she’s doing alright wherever she is now. ❤
Omg the "Shame On You" advert literally made me choke on my drink the first time I ever saw it because the ending was such a shock. I remember the ventriloquist one too and it scared me as a kid.
If you ever do a sequel to this video, I recommend this one csa psa I saw awhile back, I forgot the name of it but it was basically a giant disgusting tentacle that represents the trauma from csa and it follows the girl through her whole life until she dies. It really effected me as I was groomed and it really is a great representation of trauma
If u look for 'Dunklezipper Tentacle PSA' itll come up! I heavily agree w u about how good of a PSA it is. I like that it shows that trauma can creep up on u both during times that might be expected to be triggering, but also just normal every day life. The tentacle makes u feel uncomfy, gross and that's also how sexual trauma can feel to alot of ppl.
Julie Knew Her Killer isn't the most graphic but it was always the one that scared me the most. How mundane it is, and the screams of the girl in the front seat are terrifying
@@Ruthl3ss_c0rpze at the beginning of the PSA, it's suggesting that Julie's killer is in the van behind them, setting it up to be some kind of horrible murder scene. The plot twist is that the killer is actually her son sitting behind her, because he didn't wear his seatbelt, meaning that when they crashed he flew into the back of the seat, making her fly forward and die. Her killer is her son, just because he didn't bother to put on a seatbelt. I hope this helps!
As someone who'll be 3 years clean come April - I was extremely disturbed by 21:04, as withdrawal was THE MOST physically painful experience I've ever had. Regarding the time between my active use and now, I can't recognize myself anymore. I'll never be the same person, but I know I've come a long way since.
I may never experience that pain, but just watching those psas alone and other “partnership for a drug free singapore” psas, im horrified to ever attempt or be tempted to use drugs
I don't normally have a physical reaction to fictional depictions of disturbing events, but holy shit, the baby monitor one actually got to me. The little girl's voice being muffled, while hearing what I assume was her bed creaking filled me with so much dread, and made me sick to my stomach.
God that stairs one hit way too close to home. I grew up in a very similar situation. I still sometimes think I hear arguments in the background when I’m listening to music on headphones. I never realized until years of therapy how much the abuse between my parents effected me since I wasn’t the one being abused, my mom was…
That one was tge only one on this list that almost made me cry. I cant even relate to it my parents never hit eachother or anything. Theyve argued before but it never got physical and its the only one that made me tear up a little.
Same, my brothers dad spent years tormenting my mom, because they both knew he never hurt me and my brothers to get to her, i've seen my mother have her nose broken, have dents in her head, have her own body put holes in walls, seen her dragged on the floor, and i couldn't do anything but cry, because i was just a kid. he got lung cancer and is still alive but i feel like it should be worse.
28:21, as a kid of an alcoholic, made me tear up. this really is what it's like. they're so happy and bubbly with you, and that's unnerving because there's just something wrong. but then, the mask switches while you're away, and your parent is suicidal. it so perfectly encapsulates what i went through age 13-15. absolutely horrifying, absolutely triggering, absolutely brilliant.
The “no accidents” series really hits after having a shelf of saw blades collapse on me at work because they were built poorly and overloaded. Luckily not injured, but definitely a shocking experience…
when i was four years old, i saw the cooking " prevent it " psa while watching sponge bob. i never remembered the name of the psa, but it haunted me for eight years.
Baby monitor was the worst one because it felt like it ripped a peace of my soul out.I keep getting haunted by those sounds and how terrible it was. EX:If you don't want to get traumatized badly, don't watch the baby monitor, but it has good message on how bad sexual assault is.
The depression one ‘Is There Anybody Out There’ is extremely true for me and at 5:23 is how I feel all the time/pretty much every day… I’m glad you put this PSA up because I know that I’m not the only one suffering from depression (a lot of people are!!!) Thank you for showing this PSA and hopefully making other people aware/realize how much we need support from others
I'm so glad you did had the Prevent It ads in there, I was going to suggest them for a video if they weren't! They're absolutely shocking and perfectly executed.
I always thought that was just a Photoshop of a school picnic with a car tumbling at them. To learn it was an actual thing that wasn't made for jokes made it even funnier (not because "kids die yay!" But because it went from a PSA that actually does a good job with shock value and barely letting it sink in, to a joke)
The last 2 on this list really shook me. I've never, ever been in either of those situations before in my life (thankfully), but the PSAs still horrified me and made me feel so much sympathy for victims of those incidents. I wish I could collectively give those victims a big hug and make their trauma go away.
In response to the shoe boxes one, those issues clearly highlight fundamental issues in the region that go far beyond what the working classes can ever hope to impact by flinging their dollars at it.
Not gonna lie, PSAs scare me more than most horror movies If you’d like a recommendation for a part 3, the “I Am A Stroke” PSA series is pretty chilling. Especially Michael Clarke Duncan’s one. Made even more disturbing and tragic since he ended up dying of a stroke.
sizeable tw/cw (im talking abt the baby monitor one) the last one was genuinely the most disturbing to me, and not just because of the sounds or anything. it's accurate. the child's screaming, the shushing, and most of all the face the woman made was the exact face my mother did and even though she's an actor it felt so real. they certainly did get their point across well like damn
the PSA community here on youtube is something you should definitely check out, as not only do they help spread the messages, it’s great horror content
Holy shit the Stairs one is effective and honestly accurate what it’s like growing up in an abusive household. As someone who grew up with an abusive father I can tell you this is exactly what it feels like. He would genuinely get mad at stuff like that. This feels more like a memory than a PSA. I started breaking down just hearing the ad. Even with how much it effected me, I genuinely think this PSA should be shown more. This is what it’s like.
The Ventriloquist one makes me cry every time I see it. This really is how abuse can be. I didn't feel like I could speak up and I nearly died because of it. The Baby Monitor PSA was also extremely affecting. I shouldn't have been in my situation for as long as I was. Children don't have voices like they should.
The Back To School PSA always brings me chills, because I come from South American and my dad alwayd told us "It wiuld've been so great to be born in USA so you csn go to a better school and all" but seeing the shit that happens just... wow
Thanks for another banger and I like your new format! P.s DARE was good but the officer who came to our class died after drinking and driving. Kinda left a weird taste.🖤👻💀
Honestly I wish there were more PSAs that bring awareness to domestic abuse. I grew up in a household where we were to be quiet about it because it would've just made it worse. Fucked me up
The “Stairs” PSA, literally fucking TERRIFIED me. That woman’s cries and screams hurt me, my goodness, even the husbands scream, that shook me. Even the “Baby Monitor” PSA, terrified. It’s so fucking scary, but it’s so important to learn.
When I was in grade 10, I was taking a mandatory class we had to take about planning our future. While we were learning about jobs, they showed us the Prevent It Chef PSA. No warning about what was in it and uncensored. I had to leave the class because I had a panic attack. From that point on, they gave us heads up about anything they showed us (I'm guessing that I wasn't the only one who reacted that way). Any time they told us they were showing us a workplace PSA with graphic content (cause apparently they all were) I left so I didn't have to go through another panic attack. I still get anxiety whenever the Chef PSA shows up.
Man, I don’t know why I didn’t heed your warning about that last one but I certainly regret not taking it. THAT one gave me a knot in my stomach and… a flashback. Don’t be stupid like me and LISTEN to warnings! But honestly, that really encapsulated what it feels like and they did a PHENOMENAL job. Anyway, just listen to warnings if you’re sensitive to shit. I mean obviously, but I’m Saying that just in case anyone else is as stupid as I am.
I am from the UK, and it's good to see British PSA (or PIFs) represented. Knight, you have done a brilliant job in finding the most disturbing. I am complete enthusiast and grew up with PIFs during the 70s and 80s. I thought I could add something to the list: Dark and Lonely Water - Famous for being very creepy with the voice of Donald Pleasance Apaches - basically warning about the dangers of children playing in farms Robbie - there are two versions for this. The most famous being so graphic, it was actually banned. So they made a tamer version. This was made for children aged 9 Protect and Survive - British government advice in the event of a nuclear attack Cartoon - NSPCC ad on child abuse. Very distressing but is probably the most effective ever relating to the issue of child abuse Barnardo's - Repeating itself - children and cycle of crime and abuse I hope you make another PSA video.
Another version of “Monsters” I thought would be of a child running away from a monster in the house and at the end it shows that the monster is the parent
I'm not sure how old you are but your ability to speak to a camera and your narrative regarding your content and pretty much everything else suggests that you're at least 30 but you look like a child. Your channel has become my favorite and you have such an easy way you connect with your viewers. I'm so glad I found it ❤️
"Stairs" already made me feel uncomfortable enough, but "baby monitor" though?! I feel like I need to rub some Purell on my brain after hearing that shit....
Coming from a kid whose dads best friend was a bottle of Jack Daniel’s whiskey that lived on top of the fridge, I can say that monsters was pretty accurate, as were the other PSAs about alcohol abuse.
i used to be that one kid that had the habit of not wearing a seat belt, i grew out of it when i found out how seriously it could hurt me, to be honest the julie knew her killer psa really shook me up
After watching this I HAVE TO ask: were the directors ok? Did they go through something as kids? Because they surely know that children ARE going to see those and they ARE going to be scared. I know shock factor makes things memorable, but WOW.
That last one made me phyiscally sick. I couldnt get through it. Its a good psa and perfectly gets its message across. Its dark, well acted, and really makes the listener shook to their core.
Back in secondary school we went on a presentation about the history of film and TV, and they present the speeding PSA. And it was interesting to see all the reactions from a middle point of view. The younger kids from the primary school were probably horrified just seeing a bunch of kids being flattened, the older graders and secondary students were 50/50 laughing and the teachers were mostly disapproving.
The one PSA that I will ALWAYS remember is the "this is your brain on drugs" PSA back in the late 80s or early 90s where the guy throws an egg into a frying pan and says "this is your brain on drugs" as they show the egg frying and sizzling. I have a mixture of being 😠😡 and 😂🤣 at that one
Due to my forklift certification I feel morally obligated to say that in the prevent it psa that forklift should’ve had some type of cab or overhead protection in a warehouse where you are lifting anything above you. That situation would be at fault of the company which is in stark contrast to the message that it’s the workers fault for how it was stacked. If that situation actually happened the company would probably been shut down asap
I really liked the ventriloquist one, it was clear and impactful in its message without being graphic. Plus props to whoever designed the puppet, she had a lot of expression and it felt like watching a real child, it proabbly wouldn't have hit as hard otherwise
Dude, okay. The “Back to School essentials” I have seen the beginning a thousand times. I always got it as an ad, maybe RUclips or something, but I never watched it the full way through, cause I thought it was just another annoying back to school supplies sale ad. I have no idea how many times I passed by that without ever watching it. Goddamn, this messed me up.
The back to school essentials ad has always made me cry in the end- not a full on cry but the sound of her voice cracking and the last message she sent to her mom- horrific... I just got out of highschool last year and that fear has always been very real to me, even when I was in middle school.
Back in 2005-2006 , while I was getting ready for school my mom would have The channel Telefutura ( present day Unimas) on which broadcast latin American content mostly mexican telenovelas. And a common PSA would air frequently which was honestly kinda creepy, it had a ventriloquist and his dummy and throughout the ad the puppet would stuff himself with cigarettes while they were doing an act. The ad then would end with the puppet being thrown away to a dumpster. The setting was really ominous being really dark with only the ventriloquist and his dummy visible because they had a stage light on them. I'm assuming this was an anti smoking PSA. I may have misremembered some details since I was 5.
I remember being shown that passenger/seatbelt one as part of a "mechanism of injury" lecture when I was studying paramedicine It's THAT close to life (and actually a very real risk in car incidents) that it's been used as part of paramedic training here
dude, "stairs" hit me ao hard I started crying, the fighting sounded so similar to my mom and dad that it accidentally triggered me lmao never making that mistake again
The school shooting PSA always gets me tearing up, the scene with the girl in the bathroom texting her mom really hurts to watch as well. When I was in high-school, we had a kid come in and try to shoot up the school. I will never forget the fear I felt that day. Hearing the gun shots, getting ushered to the gym by other screaming students, the tears running down my face as my now husband held my hand and pulled me into the gym, hearing the other kids cry quietly just as I had been while we all huddled in the gym, texting our parents incase something happened to us. Luckily no one got hurt because we had on campus officers, but it was rattling as hell.
The D.A.R.E program was still around in the early 2000s when I was in Elementary school, we did have the sign a contract and that thought of having children sign contracts is weird. Some of the assemblies made some of us now that we're adults question if they really happened, I was like 8/9 at the time I didn't even know what drugs were it was strange and irrelevant to our age group.
Also with the anti smoking instead of PSAs are health teacher brought in lungs that belonged to a smoker, it was jarring and they probably weren't real. It didn't stop me from smoking though so I'm gonna say it was ineffective.
Since RUclips likes to bend me over the counter and... give me a stern talking to, I had to censor a good chunk of the PSAs in here.

It kinda disturbed me in a broken heart kinda way
Yea. That's the point. Its not highly implied. Its straight in your face. It's her father controlling her and abusing her.
Can I just say that I really enjoy your screen name 😊

I remember seeing the "Back To School Essentials" and initially thinking it was just your typical back to school supply ad, until kids started running for their lives. I was genuinely confused for a hot minute until it finally processed and went, "Oh, it's a PSA."
Also, "Stairs" hit close to home.
Luckily I've moved on and found myself a boyfriend who I love so very much.

it was so light hearted, just covered how to wash radiation off of yourself and keep it away. the problem is that they basically treated it like a storm or something, ignoring the fact that people will likely die and that you’d need to get rid of the body to keep yourself safe as well. it’s just not a good psa.

The stairs one was too real, man. The way the woman says, "I'll be quiet, I'll be quiet." She portrays panic so well. It really hit me because that's how I sound sometimes during a panic attack.
The kitchen PSA I watched in my culinary class.
I’m probably gonna have to fast forward past the baby monitor psa once it comes up. Oh God…..
The one messed me up for a minute I felt something in my core I’d never felt before.
It’s message is very important though
I'm husk of the man I once was
I thought I’d be fine watching the stairs one but it reminded me of past experiences far too much. No child should EVER have to hear that. God.
I’ve said this exact words, like you beg and beg your abuser to stop; saying you’ll do anything, offering whatever, it was really hard to see the baby watching that. My kid was 2 when we went through it.

As a child SA survivor. I couldn't finish the baby monitor one. I didn't expect me too hit me as badly as it did
I am so sorry I am not a victim but I deeply feel sympathy towards you, the baby monitor video was so haunting I almost threw up I wish every victim speaks up and fights back but I know how hard it is to do that so my only advice is stay strong and keep trying your hardest.
Sorry you had to go through that
Hope you can heal from this 🙏 I'm sorry to hear that
as someone who hasn't suffered through SA i'm sorry for you, this even got me. It made it so hard to watch through it especially cause the girl said hello dad. The bed creaking freaked me out even more and thats what scared me.
Shame was funny until you saw the Dad pick up his dead child crying. It was just too real, the pain and agony on his face really gave the message.
well *that's* going to haunt me forever. Can't wait to see that when I close my eyes tonight
Well obviously. PSAs are very real. There's a reason why they are made after all. They aren't movies that were made just because.
To be honest, the use of a Pink Floyd song was the only thing I liked about it.
But what about said depression? If I watched it, I wouldn't know what it was about
To say to PSA a bit of a stretch
That last one made me dizzy, a PSA has never made me feel that unwell before
PSAs were wild back in the day. I dont think they still do PSAs now. But back then, it was the home of disturbing PSAs
There's also like, no allegory or visual metaphor, so it seems so mundane the realism fucks you up even more.

Florida.
Damn, being homeschooled in Florida seems more and more reasonable. Maybe that’s why they have FLVS.
I remember once there was a lockdown, and of course the teacher said it was a drill. It wasnt. We all hid and I hid under the desk next to the teacher, and she was shaking. Luckily it was a mistake but once I realized it wasn't a drill, I started crying.

One of the reasons Stairs is powerful is because you can't see the domestic abuse. All you have to go on is the sounds in the other room and the child's reaction from seeing it. Although, I would wager he can only see glimpses of it as the fight passes into and out of his field of vision.

The sound check radio one absolutely shocked me in the worst way possible, so congrats on them
Having grown up in the UK in the 90s, so many of these were such a trip down memory lane!
I remember seeing those work place accident ones when they were live aired. Scared the hell out of me.
I am from the UK, and it's good to see British PSA (or PIFs) represented. Knight, you have done a brilliant job in finding the most disturbing. I am complete enthusiast and grew up with PIFs during the 70s and 80s. I thought I could add something to the list:
Dark and Lonely Water - Famous for being very creepy with the voice of Donald Pleasance
Apaches - basically warning about the dangers of children playing in farms
Robbie - there are two versions for this. The most famous being so graphic, it was actually banned. So they made a tamer version. This was made for children aged 9
Protect and Survive - British government advice in the event of a nuclear attack
Cartoon - NSPCC ad on child abuse. Very distressing but is probably the most effective ever relating to the issue of child abuse
Barnardo's - Repeating itself - children and cycle of crime and abuse
I hope you make another PSA video.
What happens in the Robbie one? What made it so disturbing? Just like Reddit, I'm interested but afraid to click the link.
Being a former Oxford High School student the Back to School Essentials always gives me shivers
Coming from a kid whose dads best friend was a bottle of Jack Daniel’s whiskey that lived on top of the fridge, I can say that monsters was pretty accurate, as were the other PSAs about alcohol abuse.
The back to school essentials one always put me on an emotional rollercoasters
i used to be that one kid that had the habit of not wearing a seat belt, i grew out of it when i found out how seriously it could hurt me, to be honest the julie knew her killer psa really shook me up
After watching this I HAVE TO ask: were the directors ok? Did they go through something as kids? Because they surely know that children ARE going to see those and they ARE going to be scared.
I know shock factor makes things memorable, but WOW.
That last one made me phyiscally sick. I couldnt get through it. Its a good psa and perfectly gets its message across. Its dark, well acted, and really makes the listener shook to their core.
at least is dialogue and a scared woman, but there's someone who went too far and involved real children
If that situation actually happened the company would probably been shut down asap
that one "Shame" actually made me cry
Then you need to stop cry like a little bitch
Same
I really liked the ventriloquist one, it was clear and impactful in its message without being graphic.
18:36 never fails to make me just instantly start bawling
Bro the one that scared me the most is the school shooting one, when the girl was texting her mother that shocked me a lot.
I remember being shown that passenger/seatbelt one as part of a "mechanism of injury" lecture when I was studying paramedicine
It's THAT close to life (and actually a very real risk in car incidents) that it's been used as part of paramedic training here
dude, "stairs" hit me ao hard I started crying, the fighting sounded so similar to my mom and dad that it accidentally triggered me lmao never making that mistake again
We had a kid in our high school basically turn into a drooling doll after huffing that compressed keyboard cleaner stuff
