That last one just creeped me out hugely. How can you justify child exploitation with the freedom of speech argument? I get that the pictures weren't actually explicit, but they're still provocative and suggestive and that sub should have been banned way sooner.

Cause most people in the USA don't understand the obscenity exception to free speech, and what counts as obscene is left to things like the Miller test, which has variations and different interpretations by each state.

As a platform, it’s Reddits responsibility to keep illegal things off of it. EVEN IF they’re links to another site.

I mean he isn’t inherently wrong as it is true that nothing you post on the internet can truly be erased but even so, it definitely comes off as victim blaming towards children who didn’t ask for their pictures to be posted by a bunch of old creeps.
Yea but the big thing there(IM NOT DEFENDING IT)is that it was a sticky situation because the subreddit technically wasn't illegal. On the technicality because they weren't explicitly naked the arguments could be made that it wasn't sexual or exploitative in nature and all that BS. And like I said, while we all know that's all bs, it opens other cans of worms on other things that aren't illegal being taken down because they are "offensive". Slippery slope.
Yeah "troll subreddits" my left ass cheek, sometimes a line needs to be drawn and the fact they were too scared to do anything about in the first place boils my blood.

Exactly. Freedom of speech is good but there's always a line you have to draw. Kinda like how I'm the USA we have freedom to say anything unless it's hate speech then there has to be consequences.

That was Alex Ohanian, one of the co-founders of Reddit. I also couldn't agree more. I was upset at how he overlooked the issue of CP being shared on his site. It doesn't matter the circumstances, exploitation of a minor is a crime period, and it has no place anywhere. Thank God the sub-reddit was deleted!

The funniest part of the whole controversy surrounding the r/Jailbait subreddit is that it’s responsible for birthing the Lake City Quiet Pills Internet mystery as Milo was an admin on that subreddit before the infamous website existed.
There's too much to talk about that place's existence, but it won't be possible given the irrational and visceral response people get when addressing any such controversial topic. Let's just say the interviewed guy was quite reasonable in his response and the moment someone on the place broke the law, action was taken.

Reddit can be an amazing place where you can find a sense of community and belonging, however it could also be a place where disgusting and revolting content is not only posted but also condoned. Stay safe on the internet, it’s has certainly has its dark corners.

I've seen the Mallsoft community on RUclips; mallsoft is a sub-genre of vaporwave with heavy emphasis on elevator muzak, smooth jazz, and vintage mall nostalgia. I've seen tons of crazy stuff on the Internet over the years, but even with the bittersweet feelings discussed regarding the downfall of old malls, the community is otherwise peaceful. When you look around every once in a while, you may just find the peaceful side that many of us have hoped for. Have an amazing day!

honestly the most controversial subreddit I've been on was one that was just pictures of dead bodies that were unrecognizable due to shit like bombings, house fires, etc. it was fucking horrifying
There’s so many subreddits for crime scenes. If your a true crime person, Reddit can be a nasty place to accidentally see stuff

I had to repeatedly make reports and threaten to go to the police before Reddit took down 3 CP images I came across.
The moderation on there is a joke. It took like a week.

If you ever do a part 2 I think that the subreddit r/regretfulparents should be included.... the stories can go from truly sad to depressing to nerve racking
Nothing illegal is going on over there, and that part of reddit is meant to be a safe space for parents that wish to tell their stories about how stressful being a parent is. I’ve been there and I do agree that a lot of it is very upsetting, leave them be, they are trying to vent and grieve with the important life decision of being parent that they now unfortunately, regret. Not every family is going to be a picture perfect situation.
Why is it controversial?
Having children isn't all unicorns and rainbows, if anything such subreddit just proves it, because everyone everywhere tries to make pregnancy, childbirth and having children as this "uwu amazing experience you can't regret uwu", literally romanticizing teen pregnancy and forgetting everything that could go wrong.

I think reddit should keep the free space but it needs to be a bit more harsher in some rules. Like you shouldn't allow people to post pics of underage kids like r/jailbait. Some things just really cross the line and should not be tolerated

The first story reminds me of the docuseries Dont Fuck With Cats where a fb group tried to track down Luka Magnotta and gathered all this evidence, and they thought they got Luka... But ended up getting a man who was clinically depressed and he ended up killing himself when sent death threats by the people in the group. Just goes to show that all evidence put forward and all leads and hints should be cross referenced and checked a million times before being taken into account.

Exactly!! Allowing a place like that to exist allows for a community to share even more nefarious content? Not only in the open, but privately too. Like what were they not getting? And also did you notice the victim blaming too?? Literally I think that’s one of the reasons now why RUclips has disabled videos flagged as “for kids” because creepy fucking weirdos would be in the comments sharing codes/links and interacting with each other. And lastly, why the fuck would you want to keep a community of people who are sharing suggestive images of CHILDREN in the first place. Society is decaying at a more steady place where this take is considered controversial.

People always yell “free speech” when in reality all free speech is rlly for, is for you to be able to say things about the government and not get arrested. Because of free speech you can say “I think our government system is trash and I don’t like *insert person of power in government*” it doesn’t mean you have the right to say sexual things about minors, be racist, homophobic, ect. There’s nothing wrong with making jokes, everyone makes jokes but when those jokes go to far, then it’s an issue. And when people get offended by a joke(usually depending because some people are hella sensitive fr fr) don’t call them sensitive. I’m a black guy, and with my black friends we will pretend to be old white racist men basically mocking people stuck in the Jim Crow Era.
