A great video as always! S Stock has probably become my favorite underground stock too. The open gangways and air conditioning certainly make them the nicest to travel on, though in the peaks it's never going to be that pleasant!
I'm more of an A-Stock man myself (back in t' day), but the S-stock is still a firm favourite of mine. I find it funny how the S stock and 2009 stock on the Vic line sound very similar, but for some reason I don't mind the S-stock sounds, yet cannot stand the 2009 stock sounds. Huh.
To be perfectly honest, 2009 stock is my #1 favorite stock purely because of the sounds. I just love that loud whistling noise. Also, don't you think 2009 stock looks like a smaller, squashed version of the S stock, or is it just me?
+Matthew B, The Victoria line trains are smaller and rounded at the top to run through the circular cast iron tunnels. District line trains are squarer and taller. However the S stock floor is 8 inches lower inside due to the smaller motors and a similar space in the roof allows the air conditioning equipment. They also use regenerative braking that saves energy, avoids brake dust and is almost silent. It is not fully operational at the moment, due to the high return voltage tripping older trains still in use on the same line. It also takes longer to stop, causing the mechanical brake to cut in quite frequently. It will only operate fully when the trains are driver-less.
Walk-thru trains. Brilliant. I presume the technology wasn't available sooner, then and out-of-the-box designer said, "why do we need to think in separate cars?" Good vid., Thanks
They do have a problem. If one set of doors develop a fault, a seat is dangerously broken or a window is smashed, a carriage cannot be substituted and the whole train has to remain in the workshop awaiting repair. In extreme circumstances a carriage can be substituted, but it is a lengthy process and has to be carried out in the workshop by engineers.
Thats probably due to fact that their so Fuckin Expensive :( You cannot even take a Shit in London any more without having to pay for it Awful City , don't bother................
One of the two of my favorite rolling stock of the Underground. The other one is the Victoria 2009 stock. LIST(lines that uses my favorite stock of the Underground): Sub-surface lines (so good and modern) Victoria (that sound) Jubilee/Northern (door sounds) Piccadilly Bakerloo Central/W-loo and City (I don't like them.. they look weird especially the big windows)
It is great fun when the driver forgets to set his destination at the start of the journey and when he realizes it at the first stop, the announcements and indicator boards are one station out of sync for the rest of the journey. Setting it wrongly will result in the system thinking that the train is on the opposite side of London. When the district line trains were first introduced, the announcements and indicator boards were sometimes giving out metropolitan line information.
Personally, I find the long single carriage unnerving. Seeing the train bend round makes me think the train is going to break. Granted I don't live in London and the last time I was on the underground was over a year. I sure I would get used to it if I was on it regularly.
Timebolt. Can you imagine steering the train through all those winding tunnels? The steering wheel must be worn-out by the end of every journey. And the drivers’ hands!! Red raw.
No S Stock is to stay A, C and D Stock does not cut for today's tube. Niff why do you want privacy on public transport? The S Stock has walkthrough carriages to help passenger flow. What are you talking about the 2009 stock. A massive mess. The 1967 stock is old and could not achieve the 36 tph.
+Transport Centre. D stock were probably the finest trains ever to run on the London tube. They became tatty over the last few years due to neglect and poor maintenance.
A decade ago, London underground was getting into a bad state of repair. Since then, we have replaced about 50 trains a year at a cost of 6 million pounds EACH. Signalling and stations have also been extensively upgraded. Stations are fully automated with 75% fewer staff. Although no one will admit it, the trains will soon be driver-less. Platform edge doors are also being introduced, but they cannot be installed in stations where the platform is curved. ruclips.net/video/I-Pec4GvDwQ/видео.html
Think about what you are saying, if they have all gone to VivalRail then how can there be a rail tour on the 7th of May? Answer: There still hand full of units in service until the date previously mentioned plus the rail tour (t.co/4Y5U1CeVZH)
Granted, the trains are huge and don't accelerate that fast. The District, H&C and Circle line stations are fairly close so there is no need to for it to go that fast. If you go on the Metropolitan line S8 stock they go really fast.

I LOVE these videos without commentaries, I want to come back to London!!
This is an amazing video! On board the Victoria line would be legend too!
Cheers,
Matt

Matthew B S stock and 2009 stock are made by the same manufacturer, at roughly the same time, and to similar specifications.

+Londonbusexplorer72. This is Siemens concept for the next generation of deep tube trains.

Cool stuff!! but its surprising to see so few people in the train.

Isn't that a cheery robo-announcer. Isn't it nice to find someone so happy in their work.

lol Sarah Parnell is good, isn't she.
AndreiTupolev Philadelphia
Yes she is. :)
Sarah Parnell. She also announces the C stock, but it wasn't robotic like the s stock
1:33 The rear doors will not open at the next station. Please use other doors.

Great train video.
This voice is brilliant
I agree. Both London and New York have great voices

I like the S stock.

Well good to know you are not leaving permanently lol
The S-Stock is great, but It has a competitor in the Victoria line '07 stock.
*09 stock
super metro my friend
Best YT channel ever
Almost every train that is on platform 2 at Tower Hill goes to Wimbledon
Love the train design! What type is it?
I love that the cars aren't separated by a lot of doors. They're way more open than in NY.
Just back, best trains (subway) ever on.
Wonderful :D

Old Man trains trains do not have steering wheels
TRAINS DONT HAVE STEERING WHEELS YOU IDIOT. THEY FOLLOW THE TRACK LOL SO STUPID.
@@maxmullen6337 what if this was automatic...
Like if you're missing the D stock. Couple of years back it would just be them going past. Now its all S stock!! 😭😭😭

Weirdo23 I miss the D stock too
+Transport Centre. D stock were probably the finest trains ever to run on the London tube. They became tatty over the last few years due to neglect and poor maintenance.
I miss the C and D stocks, but the S stock is the suitable replacement
Sound better than a Toyota Prius. They made new Stock just as good as a 1967 stock except it not a DC motor
love it
Hate to say it, but this subway is far better than the NYC subway. The NYC subway has been a disaster lately
I agree, London is known for its fantastic underground subway.

1:39: Where did that announcement say?
The rear doors will lot open at this station due to a short platform. Please use other doors.
It says The rear doors will not open here, please use other doors. You only ever hear it in the rear or front carriages.
why no video now?
Sounds like 2009 Stock

Luftschlange, are you going to be in London to catch the last D Stock in public service on the 21st of April or the Rail tour on the 7th of May?
+Amir I’m unfortunately definitely not in London in April; I might be on the 7th of May though, but it is not clear yet
K, Full details about the D Stock on the London Transport Museum's website, www.ltmuseum.co.uk/whats-on/events-calendar/heritage-vehicles-outings
Amir D stocks remain only for 25 Trains that is delivered to the VivaRail network.

White balance!!!
I love this train but This driver is acting so silly this train is not going to Wimbledon
I dont like the S stock because it feels slow and the D stock still looks decent so now they scrapped them for this shit
