Good evening Erik. Is the log cabin moving forward? Where are you? maybe problems? I hope everything's fine for you. and your end-of-year exams. I hope it all went well. friendly JF
Thanks for asking Jean! The log cabin project has been moving forward this whole time, whilst I haven't been uploading. I had made a video on building two different sawhorses using no nails, but the majority of clips crashed on my computer 😞. It's still all okey just that everything got a little delayed but will still show some of the clips in the upcoming video. The sawhorses will still be shown in action as I now use them to rise up the logs to debark the remaining ones. Other things that I have done and filmed: cleared the site for the cabin, made firewood of all the cleared trees, heavily improved a small road so that it leads all the way to the site, moved some of the logs to the site and worked hard on the stone foundation that the cabin will be built upon. A lot of this will be shown in the upcoming video. As for my exams, that went excellent and I now can work full time for the whole year on the log cabin :-). Hopefully the RUclips videos better progress along beside me now!
I was doing this in Norway in the 70`s. A bit different as we used poles like this but with metal wires going between the poles instead of wood, 4-5 rows vertically, but the end result looked like this. very enjoyable work helping my grandparents.
hello Erik....such a traditional guy is amazing to see.....i enjoy all of youre video,s and i.ll get such an amount of inspiration of youre activity....go on and surprise me and of of you,re followers with more amazing things you.ll do...greetings from Holland
I remember seeing a similar arrangement on some scottish Hebrides island about 40 years ago, only theres werent long and narrow but more square shaped. Same idea though, get as much surface area open to the sun and wind as possible. WhenI was a teenager I did "hay time" every year. I was usually sledgeman, and turned out to be a first rate bale stacker....Thought I was a king on £1 an hour (bloody good money then when some of my mates worked on other places for £2 an entire 14 hour day) LOL happy days.....
Hello Erik, Amazing work you are doing! I really admire your work ethic and dedication to using only hand tools. It takes a lot of patience to do it that way. I am also 19 years old and have just begun preparations this past summer to build my own log cabin. I look forward to following along and seeing how your cabin progresses. Good luck and best wishes from Michigan, USA - Sean Munro
That's actually really cool. I would love to also make my own cabin or at least do woodworking using just hand tools. I have a huge appreciation for the old ways of making things. So much time and effort makes beautiful creations. -Michigan, USA (lol coincidence)
Our loose hay barn was like a log home but not tightly fitted between each row, maybe 1.5" gap between to allow air flow. It had a long overhang to keep weather out. Snow could drift in but very little. Latter we used it for bales.
Just amazing to see you work, what a great change from cells, iPads and a lot of the new stuff that is making a generation so dependant on new technology, and missing what is a beautiful thing to live in a more down to earth 🌎 way KEEP ON SOLDIER
I just want to say Erik, if you get any criticisms of you or anything you're doing, on the internet here by people I mean, please ignore it and stay strong and brave with heart and passion - because what you're doing is fantastic and unusual. Very very normal. It's unusual for these days. I do the same thing as a mum. Believe in yourself - do you want to know the truth Erik? You are better than us here on the internet - you really really are! Not for bad pride, but for trusting yourself, I'm saying this. You don't lack confidence but internet and media and "popularity" has a way of wrecking the good that came in the first place. Same in Hollywood, even when film first started. If it feels too hurtful anytime, please trust yourself and turn off camera and do it cos you love it and the old days heritage and do it for you and nature. You'll never lose your passion that way. Understand you like the support, chat and interactions - social, but the politics today and high tech media are really trying to curb initiative and identity and old fashioned nationalism. Musicians fought it - I studied music - I'm one - in old days - 1700s, 1800s - and it's powerful being brave. Holding to something greater than we see now, greater than yourself. But amazing what one being can do. E.g. Trump. You have the same courageous, heart spirit. All greatness begins there. Praying for you. Love what you do. Take care. Don't lean on the internet money for your income ok. Plus, internet makes money on what you're doing, and they're not working as hard as you are ok. They're using you for money.
Tjäna Erik, jag har en fråga till dig. Som vi säger på vischan "how is it going with the ladies?" Utöver det vill jag säga att detta var en underbar film. Lilla Lisa börjar ju i skolan snart. Long time no see, god fortsättning till er. Hans
Haha.. they used to drink some light beer from this type of bottle after they finished there hard work on the field. But I don't drink so it's just water for the tradition.
