Just finished with admissions and got accepted under microbiology for both Berkeley and UCSD, but I don’t know which one to choose. I know UCSD has more opportunities for research, but the connections you can make at Berkeley are invaluable. I can’t make up my mind. I didn’t even think I had a shot in hell to get into Berkeley, but now life is making things difficult.
When you’re stuck between schools like this, I think another consideration should be where you’d rather be living. It might help to look at the campuses and ask yourself which one feels more comfortable. Academics and connections are important, but you also want to make sure you will enjoy being on that campus and in that city.

One thing that's fantastic is that UCSD's School of Medicine is right across from the undergraduate campus! It's very inspiring to walk through the SOM and get coffee. Big vibes!
the reason students are trying to change it is because it is culturally insensitive. Especially considering UCSB's history with Ethnic studies that derived from El Plan de Santa Barbara during the 60s
Hello,, are you familiar with whether UCSB's engineering is good? I only accepted to UCSB, UCI, cal poly SLO, UIUC for electrical engineering. Can you give me some advice which college to choose for engineering?
andrew z the first three are really good schools. it depends on your major and where you want to live. cal poly SLO is one of the higher ranked engineering colleges. UCI is very research oriented with lots of options and specializes in neuroscience. UCSB is better for the sciences, if you want to do chemical or bioengineering. ucsb is a much beachier place, whereas SLO and UCI are both more urban city like places. you'll do great at all of them. I say choose the most affordable option, and find out which college feels the best to you. try to visit them or take a virtual tour. and really ask yourself where you would want to live and study for four years

From what I have found so far, SLO seems to have more well known silicon valleys companies recruit than UCSB does. However, UCSB seems to have more research going on. But I am not sure wether it is easier to get internships from UCSB or slo. I will take a virtual tour for SLO later today but I virtually visited sb campus it was beautiful. I haven't looked much into UCI yet but I feel like I will choose between UCSB's and slo.

However, UCSB is a research institution, and thus had a much better program for internships and research. keep in mind, there are a lot of parties at UCSB that you would do well to steer away from, but it is beautiful there.

Both schools are really good for biology. They are both focused on research. It would come down to location and school environment.
