Obviously, back then parents saw the series the wrong way. It's not about violence, it's about friendly competition and socialization. The whole reason Pokemon was made into two versions was to encourage players to trade with friends and help each other to "catch 'em all". Its messages are all positive

KRX50 I agree. The whole concept of battling is to make your Pokémon stronger, and the Pokémon love you for that. If the trainer has a special bond, the Pokémon will become super powerful. Ash-greninja is a good example. It was also a way to make new friends. when another kid liked Pokémon you could talk about it for hours and become friends.
KRX50 I'm happy my parents weren't like that. I had so much pokèmon crap as a kid like a bed set, the cards, toys, the camera in the video. they didn't really watch it but they would once in a while and they thought it was silly but, they never seen it as a evil thing. to them it was just another kids show. I think it surprises them that I still watch the old series and enjoy it more then anything. I don't understand how some kids couldn't watch it. Idk if I was the only one but, I had a neighbor and her grandmother was super religious, to the point where movies like star wars and the wizard of Oz wasn't allowed in her house because she said it was the work of the devil because it has magic so pokèmon definitely wasn't allowed and you had to sneek watching it in the morning before she got up. she was a very nice lady but, she just found things that are normal to be bad.

My God, I remember this! The 90s parents just panicked over Pokemon with all sorts of rumors floating around. Schools banning Pokemon Cards, churches convinced that these were cartoon demons, and reports of kids being sent to the hospital after watching the show.
And that was just the first generation! Back when we all thought 151 was a lot!

My elementary school banned all trading cards when I was in first grade, in 2001. They said it was a dangerous distraction.
The also banned skip-its, balls, swings, the jungle gym, tag, and running by the time we graduated in 2006. So, really, my school was just crazy. But we never went crazy over Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh cards. We just showed them off and played against each other. The teachers must have just seen news reports like this and freaked out.
Hell, I still collect Pokemon cards. And I still have two of my gold BK cards :)

We are taught to do the same things in one way, history lessons are outright lies (which I found from my own research in college), and we don't learn anything important. Like world events and politics. I even took modern world history, modern US history, and a US political class last year at university... and learned nothing about the post 9/11 world. Kind of weird, right?

PigInATuxedo Beyblade was my little private elementary school's game. Both boys and girls got into it, and we would constantly trade parts and battle. My friend was also sort of at the top and was the one who owned the stadium. But only a couple kids including me ever watched the show, so when HMS first came out we stood above everyone but the kids who modded their Blades to near-dangerous extents. A modded Rock Bison left a scar in the side of my wrist that I can still faintly see...
