I'm going to eat what I want.
    Moderation is key
    WHY???
Plastic is in everything we eat.
Plastic in the delivery package of our food.
    Plastic utensils. Plastic cups,
    Plastic water bottles,
Pesticides, insecticides on vegtables and fruit.
Overfishing means old fish are not among the catch now.
    Thank you for the information

I live in Portland, Maine. It's supposed to be cleaner here than other places I've lived. That's not always the case though. I go out to clean up the Back Cove and encounter TONS of plastic garbage scraps from the reeds along the shore. I've gone out 43 times, as far as what I've journalized. I didn't write down every time I've gone out there though. I'll clean an area, then go back the next day and pick trash out of the same spot where I totally cleaned before. But at least I only need a 5 gallon bucket now. Before I needed kitchen garbage bags. But still, plastics everywhere I see, from shopping bags to lobster trap line. The bottle caps are all over, and I keep on finding syringe needles. Today was one of the rare times I didn't though.

Thank you for posting this concise link to avoid on the seafood menu. In the past, we had enjoyed both the Roughys (Orange and White) but learned of the overfishing and toxicity of the species, while being introduced to the Tilapia imports. The meaty texture and flavor was the allure, but unhealthy choices overrules the taste bud demands for my family. We further made the choice of Albacore tuna over the standard brands that contain Dolphins. The tuna fishermen's decision to not let go of his catch because he has Dolphins entangled in his nets with the tuna, apparently had some manufacturers labeling their product as "Dolphin free ".I am also seeking more information about the "wild caught " disclaimer that is now showing up on many "other " brands, even still marketed as Albacore.

As to mercury, you can easily take a selenium supplement... Cheated Selenium is preffered, which is able to attach the mercury to itself and be flushed out of your system.!! That said, I have been using it for well over 2 decades, with no traceable problems, and besides that I eat very little of the fish your talking of.!! I mainly eat shellfish and lobster along with crab, salmon, Cod, shrimp, etc.. On occasion I will buy a nice Marlin or swordfish steak, but that i s minimal.!! In all....my fish consumption is small as compared to when I was much younger, and besides, the nutrients they provide can be obtain through other non water sources.!!

Farming fresh water species introduces a lot of problems with bacteria. Salt water species do not contain bacteria in their meat like chicken. That is why you can eat salt water fish raw like in sushi. But all fresh water species can have a lot of bacteria and consequently a lot of antibiotics so that the fish lives long enough for you to eat.

Atlantic Salmon is farmed Norwegian salmon. Reports that since Monsanto was banned from selling some of their chemicals for agriculture, they use it to feed the salmon. It moves into the fat of the fish. If your salmon has more fat than usual, best to only eat it rarely.

Many thanks for an informative programme. I am a seafood lover and am aware of the toxin ridden fish. One thing concerned me was the mention of red snapper which you mentioned. We catch our red snapper in the local ocean around the Australian coast. I try to avoid the larger fish and stick to catching those fish which measure between 21 centimetres to 45 centimetres in length. I would be interested to know your thoughts on ocean caught snapper, Flat Head (a delicious fish) King George Whiting, Australian Salmon that are caught in our oceans (the call them Australian Salmon but they are not really a salmon) Cheers mate. Look forward to hearing from you. .🐟🐟🐟

Surprised you didn't mention farm raised salmon, especially Alantic farmed Salmon. They spray the pens with herbicides and pesticides. Wild caught Atlantic Salmon isn't that great either because of the pollution. Uou can cross all farm raised fish off my list. Plus you have to be careful some prepackaged fish that's labled wild caught isn't. There's a little square box on packaging with a number uder it. You can Google it and find out if it's farmed raise or not.

Why all those expensive fish you mentioned, tilapia yes it's not good to eat because it's breeding in stagnant water, but blue marlin is good source of protein and king fish. Other same fish that has no scales are high in purine, but those who eat moderately it's OK all foods if you eat to much and always that's bad. Base on my experience, living near the sea in Philippines we don't see that some people eating King fish and. Marlin got bad feelings. It depends on how to cook. Even some are eating king fish with vinegar, onion, ginger and chili, cucumber but they don't get any problem or they don't complain

Now if we listen to to you, what else can we eat that does not have toxins in it? From farm products which used pesticides and fertilizers to sea products in polluted seas and environment, i think none of these food stuff is exempted from acquiring toxins. If we don't eat them then we die of hunger...for me, we just eat moderately in order to live because what we eat snd whatcwe do compliments with one another and provide stength for a healthier life.
