I saw them live at rose bowl, insane how you can watch like 5 cores perform and bd come on and they’re just LOUDER. It’s like everyone moved 100ft closer to the field. They’re in their own different level compared to everyone else
That’s true for where you are, but you should really try to hear Crown in person, they have a much different sound that some like more, i being one of them.
Thankfully its been over a decade since they've played Incidents in Jazz, and it probably fits in with the show theme anyway. On a different note, props to the Q5 because they're probably the best since the 2009-2012 era.
First five minutes are very entertaining, there is so much going on. You have to view it a few times to capture it all. The closer lacks that big ending for a show of this calibur. I can't wait for the new closer.
Growing up a Blue Devils Fan and watching since 2010, I really loved this show. It's the perfect blend of old school and new school Blue Devils. After marching against and being of staff for a corps that go against Blue Devils, it's nice to enjoy early season. I think it will be interesting if the members fully embrace the BD process to get this clean by the end.
I have been what you might call a “BD hater” for the past several years. I have decided this year to just enjoy the show design and execution. This really is a great show and it is very well done. Great job, BD.
I was at this Fresno show, and I can't express how POWERFUL this brass was. the drumline Aswell. they're so strong compared to the Fresno show last year.
Powerful and clean (mostly) - but be honest - this entire book is about showcasing mastery of difficult content. it creates very little emotional impact for any other than former corps participants who can appreciate the difficulty.
@@chucksilva1686 I've never marched DCI but I've come to appreciate all the feels evoked by the BD opener, and Joni Mitchell, the tear-jerker of the season. You should have heard the tens of thousands of fans with me at Stanford. It was emotional, and surreal.
I agree with the assessment, having marched against them (Phantom Reg.) in the early years, late 70's- early 80's I've always appreciated the attention to every single detail imaginable! This year is no exception.
Attending the rehearsal 2 days ago, they were struggling to get their cover downs clean in the ballad, needed a lot of reps, it did get better but, just a little bit of evidence for the comment of the brass visual being the weakest part
To me, it seems Bloo more often uses voiceovers for the narration of their show which I think pulls some of the focus from everything else going on on the field. On the other hand, BD uses voiceovers to add texture and thematic aspects which doesn’t necessarily require the viewer to have to listen to each word. I think that’s the difference. Love both shows though!
That feels backwards to me though? If the only thing the voiceover is adding is atmosphere, then it’s kind of superfluous relative to Bloo’s last 2 years where it’s been integral to the theme of the show. Weird that they’d get credit for that but somehow it’s a negative for Bloo. I will say I understand criticism of Coats’ use of narration this year cause there are times where there is very little music happening next to the narration, and it’s purposefully repetitive and sort of grating. I know it’s to reflect the source material but that doesn’t make it sound better. Last year though, I could not understand people being annoyed at the voiceover. It tied the show together and was pretty unobtrusive imo.
Tbh BD’s voice overs are like small samples not actually narrative voice over through the entire show. It just adds more theme and depth/texture. Both aren’t terrible it’s all preference, but if you’re not a huge fan of VO then coats probably aren’t gonna swing ya boat
@@isekai_neo Narration is great when used well. One good example is the rhythmic use of it on count 3 in Bluecoats show or the brief "a chapel was built" which fits their theme. This is different from the constant stream of it in Cadets show last year.
