I feel like if you’re gonna do an alumni performance of the Bluecoats’ history, there are three things you just CAN’T forget to do (in no particular order) 1. Autumn Leaves 2. The wink at the end of Great Gig in the Sky 3. The pitch bend
So I was the Autumn Leaves/Dry Cleaner/DoubleC soloist in this and let me tell you, there were AT LEAST 20 of us that could’ve played any of the solos/lead parts. It was awesome playing with the Young Guns ,Old Coats and all the Scream Team(soloists), but I must say that the hang was the best part. My wife asked me what it was like and I said it was like hanging out with 400 of me from different ages of my life. A very unique experience that I won’t ever forget. 🎺💙🍁🍁
I watched this performance live and to say the least it was life changing. Watching your childhood favorite corps history unfold in front of you is otherworldly.
You cut off Hey Jude?!? 😮... This was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I marched mello in 1991 and getting to go back and perform one more time was a true gift. 😊💙🍁
What didn’t get mentioned here is because an earlier performance was rained out…this was their only performance and only had 10 days to practice. It goes to show you that all the hard work you put in even year past becomes memory. My kid marched ‘16, ‘17 & 18 Bloo. Watching that alumni performance for her in ‘22 was yet another phenomenal proud moment. Loved watching you two perform as both Bluecoats and Blue Devils. Best of luck on your futures!
The trumpet player who played the wink note is the visual/brass tech for my marching band and its a great time during games cause he loves to play along every now and then. Absolutely great guy as well as an amazing player
I've been teaching for almost 30 year and being able to put the bass drum on again and throw down again was absolutely amazing. Four of the eight bass drummers, including myself, were over 50 but I felt like a 21 year old once we started playing. The parts were so well written and difficult but everyone came so well prepared. Thirty minutes into the first practice things were already locking in like we had been playing together forever. (On a side note, my son who is a GOLD alumni, filled one of about a dozen spots covered by non-bluecoats.. played bass for an alum that quit... so fun to have this experience side by side with him). What a blast.
One of my favorite moments of SCVC was getting to do our encore run right before the alumni corps and I remember that I mistook the BIS time and I accidentally went into the tunnel while they were playing autumn leaves and that was one of the most magical moments I’ll ever have just getting to hear it that close and feel and see the emotion. Definitely somewhere I desire to be in the future.
Your right in that the renewal of friendships in an alumni corps is the most wonderful thing. The stories and meeting some of the people who were part of the lore of the corps is special. Especially as we age. My experience of marching with the Cavaliers alumni corps was a highlight of my marching experience. Now 15 years past that experience only leaves a profound understanding that as we age, we will lose those who we had a second chance to call brother. I am forever grateful that I was able to be a part of it. With so many drum corps folding these days, I am thankful I was able to participate back in the day. By the way, I was taken back by this performance even in a video. I recognized almost every tune,
Saw this live at indie. I was all the way in the very left corner so they weren’t very loud from where I was. But I still cried. The ballad produced the most heartwarming and intense reaction from a crowd I’ve ever seen.
What an honor it was to have been a member in 1993 and once again in 2022 and to be able to play with such talent is incredible. Thank you for this reaction video.
Kinda surprised you dudes didn’t see it yet ? We missed you- it woulda been fun - I have this video of before we went on of all 100 trumpets lined up, it was amazing , life changing , will remember that summer until the day I die with a tear in my eye - 6 words.
Great reaction video, awesome to see how Blue Coats pays hommage to their history. I doubt we would see another Devils Alumni Corps, we had one back in 2007 with SCV (park and blow).
Watching you guys watch them with such respect brought tears to my eyes. What a great demonstration of how music can positively impact your life, whatever your age. Don’t be sad you’ve aged out, be so glad you’ve had the experience. Thanks so much for sharing your reactions.
Yes. The encore was great. Hope you had a chance to see it later. There are other posts that show it with encore. There is also one RUclips with the sound from alumni but video in sync of clips from the original shows! Thank you both! I marched in 75 and 76 with Guardsmen from Illinois. Bluecoats fairly new then, but we could see their potential. In all eras very hard work, and dedication by members and staff. Sadly my corps folded years ago. I live now in Arizona. I went to see DCI finals live in 1991. My Guardsmen made finals at least three times. Brings back fond memories. Oh try to check out 27th lancers alumni show from mid '90s Thanks again....... ... Blooooo!!❤
7:40 "It doesn't even matter where you were in the stadium" me and my wife went up to the 600s (top level) before this show and I'm certain this will always be my favorite performance of all time. So greatful to be there in person.
I loved playing in this group, but honestly....my favorite part were the obnoxious stories on the bus with multiple generations. Loved every minute and miss it like crazy!!!!!
Loved this performance! I love all alumni corps shows. I can’t wait for the next ones. I actually hope BD can field one someday. As for the helmets being “menacing,” I actually thought that Bloo’s head gear was the least intimidating and even bordering on silly. But that’s because it just reminds me of old school British police.
We did a BD/SCV alum brass ensemble in 07 ( ruclips.net/video/EWjJX-_XQMs/видео.html I was the one who suggested it to the BD org...at least as a solo BD 50th anniversary gig). So long as Dave Gibbs is in charge of BD, a true alum corps will never happen. Hate to say it about my own corps, but they're a little TOO tight on protecting the brand. The only time we alums played by ourselves was at the picnic at the Stanford show...all other runs were with the BD/SCV A corps members.
If it was copied from the Phantom Regiments' helmet, then you are correct, it is copied from the old British policeman head gear. I saw a video somewhere that explains where a member, either staff or marching, came over to the UK for a holiday and returned with the helmet. From there a mould was made and then the helmets were produced.
Bluecoats alumni corps was fantastic. With the merger between DCA and DCI you guys should react to some DCA corps so we know what to look forward to next year.
You cut off the ending! (probably copyright, but still!). Either way, I was there live for this and they just kept pulling out banger after banger and the crowd lost their ever loving minds more and more each song they played. We were going nuts.
Hi, ao I saw you reacted to college marching bands, how about checking out "Rhapsody In Green" by University North Texas. UNT Green Brigade. Their full show! They did the full exhibition at San Antonio's Alamodome on Nov 6 2023. They blew the roof off of the dome! The UIL State highschool competitive marching bands ate it up!! Take a look when you can. If you cant find that check out tge one fron oct 28th 2023 there home game performance UNT has one of the best music programs and there are plenty of DCI students who are enrolled there. Hope you enjoy it as much as we all did.
The screaming trumpet on Autumn Leaves was not, unfortunately, Jeff Wilt, who played it in 87-88....e was unavailable (a shame...I was waiting to see the fist pump like back in the day)
Other than Band Nerd Anthem Creep (sorry, never liked it) and "Fight-ah still remains" (Paul Simon is not British, he's from New York) this is imo the second best alumni show all time, with only 2006 Madison Scouts Alumni Reunion Project better by a nose. The drum line is actually very clean for 20 snares and pays true respect to their return to the top 12 in the late 80's with the same dude playing the same solo the same way 35 years prior. Moving on to the modern era, it's impressive to think of many geezers learning and pulling off some of the complex stuff. Adding some snare to make even more (24, 25?) what they're playing is perfect for older players- the Top-Secret level solo from '87-88 ( and probably cleaner than 1988 when they tried to have that many, which comes off as a bit of redemption). And then, Tilt. Just one of the all time best designed and produced shows, where almost anyone who could pick up a horn probably could have been a part of it. I should know, having arranged a suit of pieces my corps once played- 3 pieces, The 90's, The 80's, and The 70's. Though the Blue Devils are full of one-and-dones there were also many people who marched many years, at least back in the day. The closest I could find online to a BD Reunion was a sort-of mini reunion they had which I don't think made it beyond California and certainly not to DCI, but that was in conjunction with Vanguard I think? For the 75th, which will be coming up 8 years from now in 2032, it wouldn't be such a bad thing to hear the 1994 intro and of course we all know the One-Eyed Sailor, and really there's no shortage of music. Carolina Crown will certainly do something at some point, just as Star of Indiana had their reunion in 2010. Their 50th is in 2040, a ways off- but drum corps don't have to wait for a round number. The Madison Alumni Project in the Scouts 68th anniversary, a meaningless number, but they had members from every single year including 1938.

Was a pleasure to start in your opening line (tuba in front of Charlie)
you're an insanely good player!!
certified baller moment
@@scottburka8885the pleasure was all mine man.
@@thisguy3243that’s an insanely nice compliment. Thank so much
Coming back to this after hearing the Blue Stars alumni corps is gonna be doing a show at nationals this year

Not only am I in this performance, this is the second reaction video about it after New Zealand Girl. I picked the right show to retire on.
Third, another group of guys did one, too.
@@monteboy87 Who?!?!?
Not only HUGE, but probably the BEST alumni corps ever... 😲👍💙
The Session 44 into Tilt is absolutely insane😂 So good
It was terrific to see how much you guys enjoyed watching your first corps.
I was in the second row on the 45 yard line for this. One of the most memorable moments I have ever seen in drum corps. So glad I got to see it live
Loved it! Wish y'all also included the trumpet screamers in hey jude at the end
Was so lucky to get to see this live. Such a cool performance
Great reaction video, awesome to see how Blue Coats pays hommage to their history. I doubt we would see another Devils Alumni Corps, we had one back in 2007 with SCV (park and blow).
I was there live for this performance and I can confirm, IT. WAS. LOUD. Probably the best part of the entire Weekend!
I saw this live- it just about blew the roof off the stadium. It was amazing to see.
Absolutely goated video. Not disappointed at all.
So glad my brother got to be a part of this. Seeing it live is one of the highlights of my 45 year drum corps career
The head drum major is Charles Stewart, I worked with him last year and it’s an absolute pleasure being able to do so.
Watching you guys watch them with such respect brought tears to my eyes. What a great demonstration of how music can positively impact your life, whatever your age. Don’t be sad you’ve aged out, be so glad you’ve had the experience. Thanks so much for sharing your reactions.
The opening riff from Autumn Leaves was recorded, it was a part of the voice over intro. Also, you missed the tag ending.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The SCV (2017) and the Anaheim Kingsmen alumni corps are definitely some of my favorite alumni shows that you guys should definitely watch!
I would love to see them react to the SCV alumni Corps. That was litty.

the 2010 callback at 11:45 gives me chills everytime!
The Tilt section at the end was awesome
Amazing show from the Bluecoats Alumni Corps! Crossmen are up next in 2024!
Can we also give props to all of the guard members that marched this???? THEY STILL GOT IT!
And we learned the end of the closer in Lucas Oil Stadium the day before.

I say yes, battle of the alumni! Haha…this was really fun to watch…thanks dudes!
I love Allen talking into my left ear. Wish my right ear got some love lol
Ong we love that yall are still doing these vids, yall are awesome!
I loved playing in this group, but honestly....my favorite part were the obnoxious stories on the bus with multiple generations. Loved every minute and miss it like crazy!!!!!
That must’ve been so cool for Ben to play that solo again.
I feel like this was the best thing to come out of 2022 lol.
Phantom Regiment Alumni Corps Semifinals 2026!
Crown is due for one as well!
Why didn't any of you march the alumni corp?
Man they forgot to show hey Jude 😢
I'm sorry I'm new here and I don't know names, but the guy on the left lost his audio at around 2:00
Alan
I would love to see a Velvet Knights or Suncoast Sound Alumni Corps Performance even though they are defunct.

Bro really tossed Everest under the bus 😂
You should react to Vista Ridge High School 2022. You'll be floored by the brass
I really hope dci continues these alumni corps
You should watch Hebron 2023 like you did for the 2021 Hebron they are really good
God I always get emotional whenever I hear the alumni
Would have been great to have matched with y’all. John Harvill 99, 22 snare.
Sup copilot

Not sure if you react to DCA shows but the reading buccaneers were amazing this year
27th Lancers Alumni show and Madison Scouts Alumni shows should be looked at also! And don’t forget the Cavaliers
broski where is the boston crusaders vid :(((
Biggest drum line in drum corps history
The next time this comes around, Bump needs to be part of it.
Why weren't y'all in the alumni band? Is it voluntary or is it a random selection?
Alan I am going to learn flugelhorn and I’ve played trumpet for 3.5 years and I wanted to ask for some advice with learning flugelhorn
14:46 You cut off the end with hey Jude.
Can yell do a Video on the Aledo Highschool Marching band? Their 2023 show is insane. Hardest Show to march in Texas 5A D1
Why didn't both of you march in this alumni event?
One of my biggest regrets in life is not staying for the alumni corps that night
Ohhhhhh no
Hey would you guys be able to make a reaction to troopers 2023??
Have you seen Utah Bands?
Gonna need a GN reaction

I opted for a fist BUMP instead. The woman I fist bumped is from the same city as me.
I also should add that I received a message and text from Jeff himself giving me his blessing and him letting me know I killed the solo!! What a guy!
Wink on Bloo, wink on..

Please react to the Sandra's days O'Connor high School marching band from helotes tx that's the band I march in please react to it
