I'm very sympathetic about what a disaster a spoiled foundation can be- I've been a plumber most of my construction years and a lot of our work is under or sticking through that slab. I never met a good concrete operator or foreman who wasn't a "worrier"- and you are so right, the details matter, even at the planning stage! BTW, I vote with the folks on adding another first aid kit to the trailer; I was aware of the co. trucks being equipped but how often does somebody check them and report back/ make sure they are current and "topped up"? Like the new show number system- most of your jobs have a posted job number; now you can refer to a particular barndo by it's job number and then give the episodes in a less confusing way.
First aid kits are on the way. :)
Thank you.
I didn’t show it, but my guys scrape the concrete off the plumbing pipes when we pour concrete. We leave them as clean as we found them. :)
@@TexasBarndominiums I had noticed how hard you and crews work at not fouling your subs work. You're somebody I'd like to do business with again! All to the good- it makes the client the winner- the folks who pay us all!
If I ever come to Texas again I’d love to watch a couple jobs in various stages of construction , last time I was in San Antonio to visit my sons graduation from the AF boot camp . I got up at 5am and it was 86 degrees with the driest air ever , so I won’t probably coming anytime soon . When the Craftsmen generator quits , get a Honda ! Any size you want and electric start is a blessing but pull start are just as good .
Eric, it always sucks having to worry about rain and getting rained on. I'm not a fan of working in Portland cement on the surface, just spider cracks everywhere. Nice job finishing this one!
I did say it was worse case scenario. 😁
Having said that, we have had to do that three times in 15 years that I have been doing this, and we didn’t get spider cracks. I think it’s because of the float pans. 🤷♂️
So all that work Manny did wiring that other trailer was just so you could get rid of it for that BEAUTIFUL NEW trailer? !! Smart man Eric!
Lol, no, we use the other one to keep a water tank inside. We use it when jobsites have no running water.
I dealt with the same thing this week with some concrete projects in Pflugerville.
Do you water cure your slabs and if not why. I haven’t ever seen a builder water cure slabs but every thing I read about water curing says it makes the slab stronger and with less cracks.
You sound like an engineering type who knows what he is doing. These "concrete experts" aren't really they are just contractors who don't want to spend the time to do it properly.
Add a emergency first aid kit to the trailer and a fire extinguisher.
Just finished a slab today in the rain it makes for hard day .at least we don't have to go back tomorrow morning and bring it up to finish.gotta love australian summers
I have been watching all of your videos. I am planning on building this year. Off topic question:when you air seal with insulation, is a fresh air circulator required? Is a good Hvac all that is needed to keep moister down? Do you spray insulation directly to the roof metal? I am in Oklahoma. Love the videos.
Great timing !
raining and slabs.. what a combo
Nice work and yes you guys dodge a bullet on this one,but that is all your years of experience...well done.
Had a 150 x 20 slab poured and it rain the day before trapping in some of the rain. After all said and done and concrete dried I found a low spot in the corner of the slab. Reason I know it rained and water was setting on slab. Roughly a 8 x 20 spot. What I need to know is it fixable? I plan on mentioning it. Not sure if it was because the water that was trapped in the pour zone or just workmanship.
Nice strings towards the end, but some excellent brass as well would be good.
Good save team!
Yeah, that same Rain/Cold Front is now here in Northwest Arkansas. Saludos desde eSpringdale BuenGente😉😉😉
Saludos.
What the day 1 aid does to the concrete, or how it helps y’all?
Down here on the coast I have seen it rain six inches with a 30% chance of rain forecast. Won't be a cloud in the sky and one will blow up out on the bay and you better have plenty of 6 mil ready. Get careless and don't cover a location the day before a pour and get a frog strangler and it's just about as bad or worse.
Maybe you could show how to water cure on your next slab that would make a great video
Dave’s Shop. I agree. I would love to see a video of water curing and it’s detailed best practices.
@@bert2754 Here's what I did on my concrete backyard project ruclips.net/video/nrOJbC1Lwzo/видео.html
Should've showed us the poured beams
Hi poured founds and after last wheelbarrow it started raining didn't get covered until 20 minutes later.
The founds has greasey skin in 3 places how do you fix before building a retaining wall. 🙄
Very nice sir, can you please tell me 3 hour completed to our slab but afterthat due to the rain what can I do? Can I use same method .
Thanks
Hey when should you start water curing a concrete patio ?..
As soon as water won’t damage the surface.
Bounty paper towels - the quicker picker upper - dries up the water. Pour gas or diesel on the slab, set it on fire and it helps with temperature control. All this is just $1.00 per square foot. It theory this doesn't even sound good.
Never mind.
Good save.
Good video.
😎
👍👍👍👍👍
Sometimes you just get lucky!
Why they did not use hard hat and gloves?
I hardly see people use a Fresno. I need to buy me a trailer.
Can you give some information on day one and what it does? Do you use it on all slabs?
www.day1finishingaid.com
I will use it on all my slabs from now on. It works great.
Texas Barndominiums
It looks like an interesting product.
Don’t know much about colloidal silica.
Does this replace curing compounds?
Excellent vid.
Cheers Pulpo
Dude, I'm sorry. As a concrete specialist and engineer I wouldn't sign off on this slab. Water affects the cement:water ratio and weakens the concrete. Rain water will always seep into the mix and affect the cement: water ratio.
.
You should always check the weather on work like this. If there is any hint of rain you should have plastic sheets ready to go. As a concrete company you should have plastic sheets in case of cold weather too. Learn about curing temperature and find out how to ensure the curing temperature is achieved.
.
I'm hoping this slab design strength was well over 25MPa, and that this structure will not take on any significant load. You should take some of that concrete out and place it in metal cast cubes for testing and recording the final strength of this slab. At the very least document on the final drawings that it rained during the curing period and that the concrete was exposed to the rain. This is very important as the building could be re-purposed in the future to carry a greater load under the belief of the design strength only to find structural failure. The only hope for this slab is that the reinforcing might still save it.
Thanks.
What were the dimensions of the biggest slab you guys have ever poured?
32,000 sq ft.
@@TexasBarndominiums holy moly!
Don't get me wrong partner I understand you like to run a good and bless business but in that trailer what I notice that you are missing and it's a number one key for everything would be a first aid kit that should go in that nice silver little cabinet 👍🤷♂️😊 Yes you are the boss but your workers have to be as well as you have to be safe that's number one key
That’s true, we have them in the trucks but you are correct, we need one in there as well. Thank you.
Yes and a place to store dry face mask, gloves and maybe a shot glass and a bottle of my 🐃 trace!!! 🥰😂😋
It happens here
Why don’t Eric roll his R’s when pronouncing his last name?
Just lay Vizqueen under it
how about just not pour when you know its going rain... simple idea.
Wind and concrete don't mix
