Talking about work or doing the work fight for the same resources. That’s profound. I’d never thought about that, but in hindsight, it’s totally true! The mental and emotional energy expenditure comes from the same place.

I am a writer working on a big play and am trying to live this way, too. There is a lot of emphasis these days for artistic people to try to build big social media presence ("talking about it") to be successful. But that also can take huge amounts of time and energy - energy that I prefer to use "being about it," writing & researching, so that the play I'm writing is actually great when it's done - rather than my social media posts being great.

I am actually living out the stoic and Christian virtues that you quote so often. I just preached.
We all know the feeling of being hurt or wronged by someone. Whether it's a friend, family member, coworker, or even a stranger, the pain and bitterness that can result from such experiences can be overwhelming. But as followers of Christ, we are called to a higher standard - one of forgiveness and grace.
In Psalm 103:12, the psalmist reminds us of the amazing grace and forgiveness of God. God removes our sins from us as far as the east is from the west. This is a powerful image of the complete and utter forgiveness that God offers us through Christ.
But what about when it comes to forgiving others? How can we extend the same grace and forgiveness that God offers us? It can be difficult, especially when the hurt is deep and the pain is real. But forgiveness is not just a nice gesture - it's essential to our healing and growth.
Forgiveness is not about excusing the hurt or minimizing the pain. It's about acknowledging the wrong that was done, but choosing to release the anger, bitterness, and desire for revenge. It's about choosing to extend grace and mercy to the one who hurt us, just as God has extended grace and mercy to us.
When we hold onto unforgiveness, it can consume us and rob us of our joy and peace. It can lead to physical and emotional stress, bitterness, and even health problems. But when we choose to forgive, we open ourselves up to healing and freedom.
Jesus himself modeled the power of forgiveness on the cross. Despite the intense pain and suffering he endured, he chose to forgive those who were responsible for his crucifixion. And in doing so, he opened up the way for us to receive forgiveness and salvation.
Corinthians 15:10 KJV - But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
Christians unfortunately often look at the word competition in a negative way in the context of our Christian walk. However, Paul urges the Christian to strive lawfully for our rewards and crowns. Read 2 Timothy 2:3-5. KJB.
Paul was not competing but comparing; his genuine preaching to those who only call themselves “apostles” but preach something else. If they preached the Truth, like Paul, it wouldn’t matter as long as the Good News was told because those who are called to do it are equal.
    * Matthew 23:8 “Don’t let anyone call you ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one teacher, and all of you are equal as brothers and sisters.”
It’s the Holy Spirit working through them. But if they preach something else, it’s not done by the Holy Spirit because God cannot lie, so it becomes dangerous to those who listen.
Paul’s intention was to keep people’s eyes on the true gospel. He wasn’t doing it to inflate his ego by competing (“I’m better, look at me”), but his work was in the interest of the Heavenly Kingdom, not his own. He came from a humble place, lowering his position, and he gave credit to God for his work. Those called to teach others are only tools in God’s hands.
    * Luke 6:26 “What sorrow awaits you who are praised by the crowds, for their ancestors also praised false prophets.”
    1 Corinthians‬ 15‬:9-19
“For I am the least of all the apostles. In fact, I’m not even worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God’s church.
But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me-and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace. So it makes no difference whether I preach or they preach, for we all preach the same message you have already believed.
    The Resurrection of the Dead
But tell me this-since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead? For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless. And we apostles would all be lying about God-for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave. But that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead. And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins. In that case, all who have died believing in Christ are lost! And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.”
    Luke 14:7-11
“When Jesus noticed that all who had come to the dinner were trying to sit in the seats of honor near the head of the table, he gave them this advice: “When you are invited to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the seat of honor. What if someone who is more distinguished than you has also been invited? The host will come and say, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then you will be embarrassed, and you will have to take whatever seat is left at the foot of the table!
“Instead, take the lowest place at the foot of the table. Then when your host sees you, he will come and say, ‘Friend, we have a better place for you!’ Then you will be honored in front of all the other guests. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not found worthless. On the contrary, I labored even more than any of them, yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.”
Paul is not saying he did not labor. In many places, he made it clear he worked very hard for the Church (cp. 1 Cor. 4:12; PHil. 4:3). The text is idiomatic, and could easily read, “yet not I only, but also the grace of God that was with me.”
In competition, so many think that things come “naturally” and therefore, to those, success comes easily. Not true. Hard work in the competitive arena looks like a “natural ability” but truly is hard work that gets us to the place of wiinning in business or any kind of competition. It is whoever works the hardest is the winner.
Brothers and sisters, let us not underestimate the power of forgiveness in our lives. Let us choose to extend grace and mercy, just as God has extended it to us. And let us trust in the healing and freedom that forgiveness can bring.
May God bless you and keep you always. Amen.
There is never enough time, thank you for yours. I would appreciate it if you could respond to email.
