There were many singers who have graced us with their wonderful voices over the years but Nat King Cole will always be the top of the line and one of the best
Listening to this makes me long for the golden sparkle of an ideal back in the good old days. Bitter and sweet and so beautiful. What once was and is now just an almost remembered memory...
iv'e listened to other you tube recordings of this song and yours is my favourite. Cleaner , warmer, more detailed. I listen on my laptop with an Audioengine DAC connecting my Sennheiser ear buds and this gives me a wow response when I listen to your uploads. Don't know what i would do with myself if I ever got to hear through a high end system.
I have the "The Very Thought Of You" reissue from Analogue Productions which is awesome, but i have to say that given the huge price difference, this cheap DOL reissue makes the AP almost blush of embarassement, because it's very close in the audio department.
Back in 1982 I had the first Oracle turntable with Signet(audio technica) tonearm and Dynavector Ruby 23R and the sound with Audio Research Phono was so unbelievably musical it was hard to stop listening. After that many changes were made and we made many improvements but we never captured that level of musicality again. When I heard your Rega and Sure Jico and Goldring the music had that same spectacular musicality. Hard to imagine you get this with the Iphono box without tubes! There has to be something else what’s the additional gain stages. Thanks so much for your response. I currently use Technics Sp10 II/SME 3009 with Shure V-15 III and Jico SAS/Ruby stylus. Great sound but can’t turn it up without some edgeiness.
My go to vinyl guy for a reason. Time and time again the best reproductions are heard here. I commend you sir for your good work. I really appreciate this. Thank you.
@@MrVinylObsessive Sir, help me out here if you do not mind. I am looking for a new cartridge and listening mostly to Nat King, Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Dean Martin etc. I have a 300B tube amp and a pre-amp that can handle most cartridges (MM/MC) my budget is around 300-400 euro's for a new cartridge- what would you recommend to get those voices going?
Diana Krall modeled her her style on Nat King Cole: a self described stand up piano player who also sings. Right! Industrial strength modesty! His delivery is smooth and rich as home-made mayonnaise. I am so happy to possess the kind of audio hardware that allows me to appreciate whatever magical processing you do to get these amazing results.
Thank you, i'm glad you like this. "Home-made mayonnaise" is an excellent choice of words to describe his voice. 😊 By the way, as usual in my channel, this is a straight recording from the preamp output into the audio interface input. There's no digital enhancements whatsoever, you are hearing the disc, the cartridge, and the rest of the hardware used to record this, plus some RUclips compression.

You did a great work recreating that atmosphere, very damn close to 1940's Noir Cinema. Good Job my Friend! Best!
Hello my friend! I think there is absolutely no other voice like Nat King Cole's voice! He had such a magical velvet voice, or maybe it was a butter quality, i'm not sure. Yep, i decided to make a black and white video, but if we want to be accurate, the traditional Film Noir from the 1940s had much more shadows than light, or if you prefer, it was more black than white, and my video probably has more white than black, LOL.

I love how artfully this was done. You could very easily just upload the song but you go the extra mile with video and production. It’s the sign of an artist. I’d love to see equipment listed in the video description. I’m sure this channel has sold a lot of turntables and cartridges :).
Many thanks for your kind words. The turntable is a Rega P3, and on this video was fitted with a Shure M91ED cartridge with a Jico Neo sas stylus. The phono preamp is a iPhono 2, and for the recording i used a Tascam UH-7000 audio interface. I'm not in the business of selling hifi, but if you mean that some people has got influenced by my channel into buying their first turntable, yes, a few of them already told me this was true.
@@MrVinylObsessive you should get setup with influencer links that when people use your links to make purchases, you get a small percentage. Congratulations this is among the best sound available on RUclips and that includes all the specialty turntables arms and cartridges I’m guessing that this is a Shure M75 cartridge on a Rega P3 or 6. Would you be so kind to let me know and also the phono section used. Much appreciated. Keep up the wonderful work my friend
Thank you, I'm pleased you liked it. The turntable is a Rega P3 with some modifications, and the cartridge is an old Shure M91ED, fitted with a modern Jico Sas stylus which has a sapphire cantilever. The stylus made a big difference in sound quality compared with the original Shure stylus. I still own the cartridge, but I don't have a stylus for it at the moment. Jico SAS stylus have a relatively short lifespan. Regarding the preamp, if i'm not mistaken at the time I was using an iPhono 2 phono preamp. In the same year, I also did another Nat King Cole video from the same album, but with an Analogue Productions pressing: ruclips.net/video/cndQWnFH7X4/видео.html
The is the vocal equivalent of crushed velvet! Such a smooth sound! My only DOL record (Bernard Herrmann's Psycho) has really dreadful sound (like it was bootlegged from a screening in a Siberian village hall) - but this is very nice!
Hi Bob. The quality of Dol pressings varies a bit but only a few are dreadful, most are acceptable specially if you look at the price tag. 😏 MOV pressings are perhaps more consistent in quality, specially in the last few years, but the first ones sounded very harsh, i have a few of those. Back to Black also has a few duds, and sometimes is great. I imagine that Siberia is not a great place for quality entertainment, generally speaking, uh? 🥱
I have to admit that after my experience with this one DOL record I've never considered buying another one, but this one of yours sounds really good. And I know what you mean about MOV. I guess you can never be guaranteed a perfect pressing - though Analogue Productions must come really, really close. Have you watched Michael Fremer's video of his visit to GZ in the Czech Republic? www.analogplanet.com/content/analogplanet-tours-gz-media-worlds-largest-record-pressing-plant It needs editing down as it's far too long, but it's a real eye-opener!
Incidentally - I found the original recording of Psycho on eBay, sounding much, much better ;o) Another one for a video. The list gets longer daily. Lol!
@@MusicAndVinyl Thanks a lot for the link, Bob! I started to watch the video, but 2h 25m is quite something, i will have to find some time to watch the rest. Black to Black reissues are pressed on that GZ plant. I noticed that a lot of people were complaining about GZ on the comment section of Analogue Planet. To some extent i have to agree with them, although i'm much less radical in my opinions than some of those readers. 😄 I ordered a Analogue Production copy of this Nat King Cole album, in a few days i will be able to compare both pressings, each at the opposite end of the price range. I suspect the AP has more detail on the strings, like on this video: ruclips.net/video/PAxa2pYeeA4/видео.html But DOL found a nice balance between detail and smoothness, which in my opinion favors this type of music and the voice of Nat King Cole. Maybe a vinyl pressing comparison video is on its way, 😲 although admittedly, it's not my forte. We'll see.
I have the Analogue Productions 45 rpm version of this album too, and the orchestra sounds better, more detailed and wider on that one, but his voice sounds much better on this cheap pressing.
Nat King Cole smoked upwards of three packs of cigarettes a day because he believed it gave his voice its rich sound. He died at the age of 45 from lung cancer.
