Hey Woodzman! I just wanted say “Thank you” for this. I have an ‘18 ATAS and the steps were identical. Your video was very helpful and gave me the confidence to do it myself.
I am going to try it, I just turned over 16k miles at the Swinging Bridges Ride in St Claire, mo, over the weekend.. it was really dusty, and it seems the AT is struggling to breath a little. How many miles did yours have?
@@WOODZMAN Thanks, I just turned 16K during the Swinging Bridges Ride 2021 last weekend. Was a really dusty Saturday, and I took a bath in the wide water crossing. The AT seemed a bit sluggish that night on the way to the Red Roof. Everything seems full of dust. My turn signal switch is gritty and stiff, I cleaned it out best i could, didn't really help. My ABS light isn't coming on all the time either. Sometimes, I'm not able to shut it off, because there is no light. Got a fix for that?? Haha.
yah, its a bit of a joke, just home from the idbdr, had to clean filter 2 times because of so much dust and it really %*#$# me off that if honda is selling this as an off road adventure bike then for god's sake make better filters and far easier to get at when on the trail around camp. these filters and the system is meant for a street bike, get serious.
Just put on the ROX I tried it a month ago, I did not think it possible but thanks to your video i did it. thanks Frank my tent was by yours at AT rally. Seezer
I too was surprised at how much plastic has to be removed just to access things like air filters and even the battery, however, the bike is a very tight and compact package. I rode the Eastern TAT last month and the bike performed flawlessly. Nice Video!
The air filters I can deal with. The battery location is the real crime with these bikes. It's lithium, it weighs all of a couple pounds, and it's *the* most-accessed internal component on any bike. Put it under the seat!
For the amount of dust we rode in, that is not that bad at all. love it. Great job on this video my friend, thanks for sharing and have a blessed week. I am not sure why Honda made this so easy to get to. :)
+Heartland Dual Sport haha I figured they would be really dirty but I'm sure they was because when I rode it after installing the Twin Air filter, I could feel the difference . Ride On !
Excellent install video, Woodzman. Them filters are top notch! Wash them, ring them out, and reinstall. You are a smart adventure rider, be safe my friend.
Thanks, Great video, I have Givi crash bars on my bike and it has enough clearance that I don't need to remove the bars to remove the fairings. Thank God for that because they are real pain to remove.
+Martin Pourkesali Your welcome ! I didn't even try to do it without removing the crash bars, maybe I should have. But the AltRider bars come off pretty easy.
I recommend to put some grease on it fits to the air cleaner box, other wise After market air filter makes engine life shorter. Also you must check that air filter every 1000miles make sure it's oiled and wet. That why I keep OEM air filter all that time.
Another Great video! I don't think you will see much if any change in performance with the new filter. Looks like the real restriction is in the snorkel.
+David Munro Thanks David. I'm not looking for performance anyway, the AT have plenty of power. I got it because I can clean it instead of replacing it every time.
@@WOODZMAN I wish you would...Just went down the wrong road with the one and only video on spark plug change and it is totally incorrect...You have to take your radiator apart and pull it down to change your spark plugs...Just spent 3 hrs taking the wrong parts off...
Great video and kind of an eye opener too. Really a shame Honda could not have come up with a smarter design for maintenance items. Sorry ask if you answered this but I didn't notice if this was before or after your crash bars were installed but will the side panels still come off without having to remove that as well?
Oh bummer! Thanks for your reply. I guess if you can turn a wrench its just time but for those that can't, it can become expensive shop labor to take care of the basics. The bars you selected sure seem to be plenty stout and if I get one of these babies, I'd like go with those bars.
hello, query, with these air filters do you spend more fuel? I installed these filters and the engine feels a little more powerful and I feel like it uses more fuel
Thx so much for the vid. I was considering the AT as next mc, but seeing this it'll be better to stay with my actual trail (*1* screw to access air filter+battery...). Disassembling half of the mc after an offroad training weekend or a hard day in feschfesch only to clean the filter is ridiculous. I wonder if it's possible to replace some of the bolts with Dzus fasteners?
Oh yea it’s a pain, they could have made it easier for sure. I really don’t remember, it really depends on the type of riding, on street it will go a long time but in dusty conditions a lot sooner
@@WOODZMAN ya I've been thinking of upgrading to either a twin or ktm 990.Even with the pain of the filter change I think I'm leaning towards the twin. Thanks for the video
off-road oriented bike and to get to the air filter you need to take whole bike apart... Would be nice job in the Sahara desert... Good instructional video anyway.
Twin Air makes actual oil for them but I always use just regular engine oil. I put them in a ziploc bag put in some oil and make sure the filter is covered good then just squeeze out the extra oil. Then I take a towel and make sure all the oil is off the filter. You don’t want it saturated, just have oil on it.
WoW - they could have made a hinged swing out door to access the filters and made it a 4 minute job. What would the dealer charge to do the filters change? $150 ?? At 17:40 is that where you drank 3 cans of energy drinks?:))
I see you took the AltRider upper bars off for the vid -- did you have to do that to access the air filters? (gonna miss these videos since you got the CRF250L!)
Africa Twin uses now two air filter on both sides so at 113$ each is over 226$ for air filters, no thanks. I will stick to paper ones. You can clean and reuse it too. You can also remove metal screen for better air flow.
Hey Woodzman! I just wanted say “Thank you” for this. I have an ‘18 ATAS and the steps were identical. Your video was very helpful and gave me the confidence to do it myself.
Awesome, it’s good to know it was the same. Well it would be better if they would make it easier
Great video! Even with the shop manual I was nervous about breaking that plastic part. 👍
Yes it’s no so fun lol
Shop manual doesn't show it well AT ALL!
Good job. I really like that you show in detail how to do these things.
+adamaj Your welcome, I like to help as much as I can.
You are so clear with the little tips and details!
Thanks and thanks for watchin

I think like 17k

I don’t know much about the ABS, I do know that after a dusty ride it’s good to that air and blow everything out before you get it wet bay washing it.
Man, that is really involved. Too bad they didn't make it a bit easier to get at those filters. But your video certainly explained each step. Thanks.
+Dennis A Yea it's seems worse than it really is. It's not hard at all just go slow and take your time. Not much to it.

I've only have 300 miles on mine African twin and your videos are going to be very helpful. Thanks great video

+David Jermy Aewsome ! Congrats !
Thanks for all your videos , i want to know if you have a video how to change spark plug for CRF 1000 2016 ?
I sure don’t, I never had to change the plugs. On these new fuel injected bike the plugs last a long time.

Holy crap that’s a lot of work... almost as bad as the Tiger 800 XC. This makes the 1200GS look super quick and easy.
Yea kinda dumb lol
Yea, had the 800xc before the the AT, still plenty more than the 3 fixers on my KLR650 ☺
Thanks for this, very helpful indeed and spot on accurate. It’s a fairly easy job when you know how! 😀
Yea its not to bad just takes a little time
how many miles did you have on original filter>??? i may have missed that in vid if stated! thanks

Greetings from the UK Woodsman.
Thanks for the detailed instructions.
Your new seat is it a lot more comfortable than the Honda original?
+Blackrainbow Thanks ! Yea the seat is great. Took about 1k to break in and now it's nice
So did you notice any performance from the air filters thanks
I couldn’t tell a bit of difference. Maybe a little more sound coming from the air boxes.
Thank you for the effort.

How have these held up? Looking at these or K&N

20 minutes job? My mechanic said he needed 3 hours to do it. Ahaha
Haha yea that is what they want to charge you for

there should be a pre-filter on the front of the bike that removes in 2 min.
