Bobby was such a multi-talented guy - incredible voice, great looks, musicality, and a good actor to boot! Wish I could have seen him in concert while he was alive!
Bobby Hatfield is funny and cute in this...I remember my sister putting "Dippity-Do" in her hair, rolling it in curlers then teasing and spraying it. Her hair NEVER moved..lol
Dippity-do: I forgot about that! Green gloppy stuff, was it? My sis' used it too! Society should not frown on curls. She always looked stylish and wonderful, though.
Bobby could sing anything, hey lil girl sounds like the original singer, noticed sometime he combs his hair to the right and sometimes to the left, and sometimes its darker, so did he comb it left or right and die it sometimes? But he's the greatest singer ever, really makes you feel it in your soul, and he was good looking also, one all around super talented
Girl not even an older semi gay girl from Philadelphia wouldn't say no to that, you'd have to be batshit crazy or full on gay to say no to either one of the hunks, it's not like that either, especially if they sing their signature hits
🤣 OH this is great - first time I have seen this video! I remember hearing this when my sisters were teenagers but never knew who sang it. Another song at that time was "Big Girls Don't Cry". Thanks for posting this little spot of Bill & Bobby!
Agreed, her name is Marianna Pecora. A regular Shindig dancer, who on rare occasions was allowed to sing back up. Get Season 1 Episode 45, she is the focus of Bruce Scott's version of "Let The Little Girl Dance".
Oh WOW ! That was so funny but great ! I wonder what ever happened to Donna Loren ? She was hyped and groomed pretty good back then but she didn't catch on for some reason.
Very catchy tune. I like the song except for the line about the pursuing boy getting "a beating." Didn't think much of it until I got older, started working with survivors of both child abuse and spousal abuse. Nice to see The Righteous Brothers included, though.
Back in the day it was considered chivalry. Protecting a woman's honor. If someone was doing this to me, I would consider it bullying. I'd have few choices but to ignore it or address it. If talking did no good and I obviously can't fight him in a fair fight... what to do? These days you would file a complaint and the cops would go talk to him. He would be considered a stalker. Back in the day, he would be considered a wise ass who couldn't handle rejection, purposely maligned her reputation and deserved to be put in his place. Remember this was 50 yrs ago. It was different back then.
@@tonithenightowl1836 - Good day. As mentioned, I'd not recognized how damaging the line about "you're gonna get a beating" was when, as a teen, I 1st heard the lyrics. Since then, I've counseled numerous victims of child abuse, spousal/partner abuse, general bullying. Violence did USED to be considered acceptable when "protecting" or "defending" a lady's honor, "disciplining" children and/or keeping a wife "in her place." In fact, it's only, at all, justified as a LAST resort for self-defense when the opponent insists on physical fights. At least, there seems to be less glorification of "a good fight" these days. Peace.
@@mjcamck There's a diff between a smack on the ass and a beating when it comes to kids. You're right till the 1930's you could beat your wife with something no thicker than your thumb and get away with it. You could also have your wife committed to an asylum without much trouble. Those days are over, laws changed and physical violence is no longer tolerated in any form. Does it still go on? Sure, it's just no longer in the closet which is a good thing.
I guess I don't understand the complaint, I mean this is about older teens fighting over a girl, right? Kids always do that. I don't see that as abuse, I mean unless there is a full on physical altercation going on.
Golly, I wish Donna Loren Now was in complete control of everything Shindig on YT, at least for awhile. There's no source more consistently useful to posterity.
In 1968, Loren retired from her career to marry and raise a family. She recorded again in the 1980s and ran her own fashion business, ADASA Hawaii, throughout the 1990-2000s. In 2009, she returned to performing, and her most recent releases include the album Love It Away (2010) and the EP Donna Does Elvis in Hawaii (2010), as well as the compilation These Are the Good Times: The Complete Capitol Recordings (2014). Her first book, Pop Sixties: Shindig!, Dick Clark, Beach Party, and Photographs from the Donna Loren Archive, was released in 2017. In August, 2020, Loren began hosting Love's A Secret Weapon Podcast, an audio memoir of her life and career.
@@Soundhypno cool background, thank you. And 1968 would have been a good time to stay home and raise a family, all the turmoil that was going on back then.
The backup vocals on this piece were by the Shindig Dancers, or at least one of them is. The little dark haired girl on the right, Marianna Pecora is a dancer, don't know about the others as such.
Does anyone else wince when he takes her arm? In these days a man could get arrested for doing that. In those days it was natural as could be, no need for concern on either side.
@@Ididnotwanttojoin Boy, I'll tell you! People will say anything whether it's the truth or not. And next to the lie that he died of a drug overdose is the biggest lie of all!
He died in bed in a hotel before going on stage to perform. And he wasn’t a drug addict. I don’t know why people bother to lie when it’s fact. I mean I can’t believe the guy said he died on stage. where are you getting this stuff from dude

Bobby is wonderful and whatever he does including this skit
Bobby Hatfield is such a charmer. He always had a smile, even later in life.

This show with those songs is like a music mix and also like a play with those singers acting while they're singing.
Ahhh, I wish this whole segment were available!
Oh, yes. There must be more... With Bill singing.
The rest of the segment is available. Just Later on in the episode of Shindig

1960 and 50s were amazing
Yes, we had it all, and to top it off, we had Bobby and Bill.
It really was fantastic, more of a "innocent" time, lol at least for white people. And then the late 60s happened and turned it all upside down

I suspect her contract with Dr Pepper limited opportunities. Also, she retired in 1968 to focus on family (similar to Annette Funicello).
