I wasn't impressed with the Beatles. They had tough competition with Nat King Cole, and Barbara Streisand. It wasn't till much later in their history that they recorded songs of merit. "Hey Jude" "When I'm 64" etc. But I thought at the beginning of their career, they had rather simplistic tunes.
Steven Torrey : Most interesting... However, I believe it was the Beatles and their twangy Gresthe guitar sound of the electric guitar that had shaped the musical landscape.. (Even the Munsters theme, 1964 had followed suite, with it's electric guitar sound, which shows you of it's popurarity!) Before that, It was Ricky Nelson who was number 1, since Evlis had joined the service.followed by the Beach Boys with thier Californian sound.Elvis was the man! But times had changed very rabidly when the media got a hold of rock in roll! However Elvis was a force to be recognized! Because of his good looks, his being established, and for the fact he had an incredible singing voice! However, truth be known. His last top 10 record came to him back in 1962, and he didn't receive another one till 1969 with "Suspicious Minds". Contrary, it was because of his larger than life presence on stage, his reputation, and his sheer incredible vocal talent, even at the end, he was truly one of the greatest artists of the 20th century! He will always be remembered for that, even after I'm long and buried!, Elivs has left an imprint on American culture, and that all over the entire world for generations to come!
Without technology he would be a distant memory in our mind that we desperately try to remember. It's amazing to actually be able to view this footage. Great Job.
I have loved Elvis since I first heard his Love Me Tender. I was & yrs old. I love him, his music and videos and concerts. He has spent many a hours of happy and A LOT of lonely sad times with me. I come from before all the modern day technology, so with or without it Elvis would never be a distant memory. He is a part of me.
Try to imagine what is like for people - young and old - seeing this guy for the first time in 1956. There was nothing like him - at least on the white side of town. No cultural figure - since - has been as controversial.
I remember what it felt like. I was a teenage boy in 1956 and I thought he was decent but my parents hated him, and all the girls in my school and my sister loved him. Went to one of his concerts in 1957 on my own, he was amazing, haven’t been to a better concert ever since. R.I.P elvis
Elvis is the only one who ever lived who could ever pull this off, do what he did, look like he did, and be this darn cool and exciting, and had the greatest voice.
Well, since my baby left me Well, I found a new place to dwell Well, it's down at the end of Lonely Street At Heartbreak Hotel Where I'll be--where I get so lonely, baby Well, I'm so lonely I get so lonely, I could die Although it's always crowded You still can find some room For broken-hearted lovers To cry there in the gloom And be so, where they'll be so lonely, baby Well, they're so lonely They'll be so lonely, they could die Well, the bellhop's tears keep flowin' And the desk clerk's dressed in black Well, they've been so long on Lonely Street Well, they'll never, they'll never get back And they'll be so, where they'll be so lonely, baby Well, they're so lonely They'll be so lonely, they could die Well now, if your baby leaves you And you have a sad tale to tell Just take a walk down Lonely Street To Heartbreak Hotel And you will be, you will be, you will be lonely, baby You'll be so lonely You'll be so lonely, you could die Well, though it's always crowded You still can find some room For broken-hearted lovers To cry there in the gloom And they'll be so, they'll be so lonely, baby They'll be so lonely They'll be so lonely, they could die
The first time I heard Elvis sing was this song. I was driving my car east on Jurupa Avenue in Riverside, CA. I can still see the street in my mind. Funny enough I thought "Oh, My, What a voice!" then I thought "He should change his name because he will never amount to anything with a name like that" Silly me. No one has ever sang this song like he did. He was the King.
Elvis scared the living’ daylights out of parents back in 1956. Remember, back then, people were still used to seeing Perry Como and Patti Page on TV, singing nice, safe songs...and then along came that guy with the long, greasy sideburns, ELVIS PRESLEY! What a culture shock!!!
Despite sadness of the lyrics, the music of this song make everybody happy. This is a wonderful song and a singer camming from the other world, where the people is happy, happy. I believe that the King worked hard for this song.
This record changed my life when I was 13 years old. My parents thought I was crazy but they soon became dedicated Elvis fans so looking back I did at least one good thing in my life.
After Rock around the clock by Bill Haley and the Comets, this is my earliest memory of Rock and Roll: I was only seven years old and my older siblings were into this music. And so it became a lifetime love of Rock.
The first time I heard Elvis he was singing this song. It was in 1956, I had a 1954 Chevy Bel Aire. I was driving east on Jurupa St. Riverside, California about 2 in the afternoon. Was I impressed, Of course, that is why 63 years later I can still see the street in my mind. I did think, Wow, but with a name like that he will never get anywhere. He needs to change his name. Shows what I know.
you will be pleased to hear that Elvis toured with these guys in a 1954 chevy just prior to his phenomenal rise to King Dom ( in the interview with Scotty Moore!)
Heartbreak Hotel is great. I just recorded it today wearing the 68 comeback special outfit. Right now it's my featured video. I tried to do the Elvis moves he did here in the guitar solo. I sing & play bass guitar to Elvis songs. I'm the only one-man band Elvis in the world. I'm using a karaoke to back me up, but I don't have to. I can play live on the sidewalk like I did in Vegas. What I really want to do is be the best Elvis show in a casino. People have fun seeing me. I rock hard and TCB.
The first of many #1 songs for Elvis and one of the biggest song of the 50s. Written by Mae Axton; years later he son, Hoyt, wrote one of the biggest songs of the 70s....Joy To The World, by Three Dog Night.
No, I mean seriously. They're not making references to real life events. They're making references to a movie, called Forest Gump, where a guy in the movie, NAMED FOREST GUMP, had Elvis Presley stay at his house at one point in the movie. Forest taught Elvis those moves.
+Ryan Wiltermood ok... that's all you had to say but asking If I was stupid I wouldn't had dare to ask you that BECAUSE I don't know who Im talking to over the web
this song is just ssiickk , Elvis just changed the music complitely to another level thats what made him elvis and no one else and the look of his beauty is unique as well. algeriafunk

Nowadays, people use so much auto tune, when they do a concert they sound nothing like the song. The old days really where the true golden age of songs. Real songs.
He was so, so handsome and sexy back in his younger years. It's too bad the entire music culture, including all the drugs, killed him at such a young age. He was the King!
I was around 6 when I was outside and there was a radio playing with this song playing and will always remember it ! cool ! I am now 70 !! So many years ago
On this day in 1956 {May 25th} Elvis Presley performed in concert at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan... At the time his "Heartbreak Hotel" was at #1 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, Best Sellers in Store chart, and Most Played by Jockeys chart... In addition he had four more records on the Top 100; "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" {at #19}, "My Baby Left Me" {at #34}, "I Was The One" {at #67}, and "Blue Suede Shoes" {at #68}... And on Billboard's all three country charts, Best Sellers, Most Played in Juke Boxes, Most Played by Jockeys, it was in the #1 position... Plus on Billboard's Best Selling R&B Records in Stores chart it was at #7... Across the pond, it was at #14 on the United Kingdom's Official Top 30 Singles chart...
Just watched the movie, didn't realize I was an Elvis fan until now
Welcome to the party lmao
I remember when this came out in 1956. It was one my favorite songs. I was only eleven.

Yes. Imagine if we didn't have cameras in 1956... -___-

"The first time I heard Elvis, I felt liberated....it was like busting out of prison!" - Bob Dylan
First record I bought in the 50s just loved it and still do
My favourite Elvis song
This is why he is King. I would be a screaming crying teenager. Elvis is one sexy man
Elvis is the coolest
Try to imagine what is like for people - young and old - seeing this guy for the first time in 1956. There was nothing like him - at least on the white side of town. No cultural figure - since - has been as controversial.
Like a "Prince from another Planet."
I disagree on the last statement
Eminem was really controversial for the same reasons. John Lennon became a Communist and was divisive too
Have you heard of Iggy Pop, Jim Morrison or Johnny Rotten ?

❤️ heart break hotel. Is the song that really put elvis presley over world wide.........
Well, since my baby left me
Well, I found a new place to dwell
Well, it's down at the end of Lonely Street
At Heartbreak Hotel
Where I'll be--where I get so lonely, baby
Well, I'm so lonely
I get so lonely, I could die
Although it's always crowded
You still can find some room
For broken-hearted lovers
To cry there in the gloom
And be so, where they'll be so lonely, baby
Well, they're so lonely
They'll be so lonely, they could die
Well, the bellhop's tears keep flowin'
And the desk clerk's dressed in black
Well, they've been so long on Lonely Street
Well, they'll never, they'll never get back
And they'll be so, where they'll be so lonely, baby
Well, they're so lonely
They'll be so lonely, they could die
Well now, if your baby leaves you
And you have a sad tale to tell
Just take a walk down Lonely Street
To Heartbreak Hotel
And you will be, you will be, you will be lonely, baby
You'll be so lonely
You'll be so lonely, you could die
Well, though it's always crowded
You still can find some room
For broken-hearted lovers
To cry there in the gloom
And they'll be so, they'll be so lonely, baby
They'll be so lonely
They'll be so lonely, they could die

That heavy drum sound. So original, so beautiful. Greatest, most inspirational band ever.
Time stood still. And in some ways has still. No Elvis.......
50s Elvis is my favorite. He was truly gifted
Elvis, the best entertainer and performer of the world!!!!!
