That's cool man my uncle served on her he watch friends/crew members die on it one from the catapult guy got his legs took off and other one was sucked into a jet engine he was killed instantly 😭😓 he never told anyone till he told me
I've also sat in that chair. And... shhhh... I sprinkled some ashes from an Essex Class ordinance Chief into that Captain's chair when we performed a memorial for him onboard. That way, Norm had a great view of San Francisco, and girls could still sit in his lap!
Carl was correct that the nomenclature of the CV(N)- designation is just like a automobile VIN number being sequential. However, there are a number of CV #s you won't find,.iI you did a search on Aircraft Carriers that saw active serice, CV -35 (Reprisale - Midway Class) between Oriskany and Antitem, never made it to fruition, but, the number remains. CV-44 (No Name Assigned) was cancelled and (also Midway Class); CV-46 (Iwo Jima - Essex Class) never mde it, leading into CV's 50 - 58 (CV-58 - United States), which never made it to production, due to WWII ending, and no other conflict warranting being built at the time, with the next carrier launched being USS Forestal (CVN-59) in 1955 following the tensions after the Korean War, but started and laid down in 1952 at Newport News in the midst of the Contflict..
I sat in that captain's chair during a tour, on the 19th of July.

several carriers (USS Yorktown being one) also brought back Apollo Astronauts not just the Hornet.
That’s right. Hornet picked up the 1st and 2nd moon landings only. I was there.
ive been the ship for a fieldtrip
Wish the USS Hornet was allowed to keep the Apollo 11 capsule as part of the exhibit. That would've been a cool addition.
They do have one of the other capsules that was used during testing.
