Sorry its so chilly in the Northeast!
It's chilly in Virginia! Today we barely hit 68!
Head South. The further south you go the warmer it will be.
Mostly low to mid 70''s for the week in VA.
      I love cream soda!
I hope you get to enjoy all of your travels. We aren't masking in Virginia either.
I don't know about other states but we threw them away! 😂
      Safe travels! Enjoy!

Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco are Defund the police cities where violent crime is skyrocketing, and the weather is miserable, although San Francisco has some great food options with some nice restaurants. Definitely hit Fisherman's Wharf and dine at least once in Chinatown in San Fran when you're there. San Francisco, Boston, and NY are my favorite cities to eat Chinese food when I visit them. They all happen to have excellent seafood as well. I would recommend that when you're in Los Angeles, keep heading South and stay in Newport Beach. LA is a cesspool now. I grew up in Newport Beach 40 minutes south of LA, and it's a much safer, cleaner, and better place to be. LA is turning into a tent city with homeless encampments all over the city. It's really disappointing what's happened there. San Antonio and Houston are fine. Texas is a great place to visit, and you're going at a great time of year for weather. In July and August, the heat is unbearable. But right now it's great. Should be mid 80's in the day, mid 60's at night. Next, when you are driving from California to Texas, you will be driving right through Arizona and New Mexico. I'd suggest just hitting the Grand Canyon if you don't have time to stay overnight. You will get some nice photos and video there, and it's really something everyone should see at least once. Oh, and when you get to Chicago, stay on the North side of the city. Rush Street is filled with great bars, but the South side is just plain dangerous. During the summer they have about 50 shootings per weekend in Chicago. Some kids used to join the Army because they felt Iraq was safer than Chicago.

Knish is a polish pastry stuffed with something usually something with potato but can be lots of things depending like fruit or meat. Up to the person making it. If you can find a good Ukrainian place eat there as like every restaurant is doing charity for the war and a portion of what they sell goes into providing help for the Ukrainians fleeing or help those still stuck there. The money goes to medical, basic, and stuff for the kids. A lot of Ukrainians made it safely to the US already and people are helping but it’s hard enough you know so try.

Knish is a pastry, usually filled with mashed potatoes but other times it might have other fillings, like minced beef. As for a hot dog, IMO, the best way is all beef frank with German style(fermented, not vinegar based) sauerkraut, caramelized onions and spicy mustard.
As for cities being more dangerous, only if you get into the wrong areas of the cities. It is easy enough to do, if you do not know the area well. Sometimes a safe area is just one street over from a dangerous area. Ask the people at the hotel you stay, what areas are safe, what to avoid.

I've done that drive tons of times b'cas when I work on my genealogy, so many ancestors were from Cloverdale, Sebastopol, etc. & it's a quick drive over to the ocean. I hope if they drive through Sonoma County, they slip over to Guerneville to check out the redwoods at the park there! Unless you know of some better places to see them Paul? I also hope they get to see Napa and the gorgeous vineyards between Sonoma and Napa! DAYUM.. There are similar snack foods in Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia. It just won't be made with lard as it would and these other countries. It's normally baked, but can be fried. I guess it's kind of like a Eastern European Cornish pasty. I'm sure there is a Scottish dish like this, but I can't think of it.

Shaun, you definitely need to get away from the cities and go to some of the National Parks. I highly recommend the Parks in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. Like Zion Nat'l Park, Bryce Canyon, Arches Nat'l Park, and of course The Grand Canyon. In fact, there's like a circular tour of all the parks around that area. They're all like driving distance from one another. And from one single little hub city, you can visit several that are real close. I think Zion and Bryce Canyon are near there. The cities are cool, but to really get a sense of America, you really need to hit our Nat'l Parks.
So while you take your drive from Seattle to LA, there's several places you need to hit on the way down. Redwood and Sequoia Nat'l Parks is definitely one of them. Also Yosemite is another if you can swing it. Death Valley might be another.
But while you're in San Antonio you must see The River Walk and the Alamo of course. We were there in 1985 and a massive rain storm hit as we were leaving, so we didn't get a chance to go to the River Walk, but I understand it is like something out of Europe. The Alamo is literally across the street from The River Walk from what I can remember. And while you're in Houston, you might wanna go to the NASA center. I think it's accessible to the public, but I'm not sure. I know Kennedy Space Center is in Florida though. And I don't know if you got the time, but if you could fly down to Brownsville, on the border, you could take a quick little drive over to Boca Chica and see Starbase, the home of SpaceX starship, where you can literally see the work going on there and finished but scrapped prototypes on display. This would be a day's worth of activities. And there's a beach right there to chill out at. Chilling at the beach with big fucking rockets behind you. Crazy concept.

Brooklyn has changed in the last few years. New buildings went up fast. Most of them are apartment towers for the upper market. I know RUclipsr Jordan Cash has been doing lots of apartment tours in the past year mostly in Brooklyn, he’s a licensed real estate agent and sells or rents them out. He figured he get more prospective buyers or renters that way. Very few office buildings went up except maybe in the center of downtown as workers are choosing more hybrid work with maybe a day or two in the office and the rest at home. It’s the way the world has changed.I know because actionkid has shown Brooklyn a lot in the past two years and it’s seriously changed. Actionkid is currently living somewhere in Miami near downtown and it’s a nice place that is evolving a lot. Orlando changed too with new buildings and the international food scene has really blown up with new things and new chefs trying to start here.

Welcome back to the USA Shaun! Glad you're here! Enjoyed this first episode! Here's a couple of tips for you too: Since you're going to Seattle the must visit place is Pike's Place Market - it's iconic + has a lot of really good food. Also, since you're heading closer to where I live near LA, the best hot dogs are from a place called, Pink's - also iconic. And if you're doing a meet up in LA would certainly enjoy finally meeting you and saying hello. Look forward to future episodes and to following along on your adventures! Hope you have a great, fun and safe journey across America!

Yep airports are considered international territory and they are under different laws. Once you step on that sidewalk outside the airport then it’s state territory. It’s a minor thing that doesn’t come up very often but it’s something we know about.

The easiest way to SF from the NW is I-5 to Interstate 80 but a much more picturesque way I-5 is to Hwy 20 just north of Napa. Drive around Clear Lake (North America’s oldest lake) with the volcano Mt Konocti in the middle. Make your way to Hwy 101 which will take you to the Golden Gate Bridge. Before you go over stop at the US Coast Guard Station underneath the bridge. Driving in SF is very unique and stressful for tourists. Drive along the coast south of SF because the I-5 drive South of Stockton is some of the most boring driving in the states. Stop in Monterey and walk along the beach in Carmel. Caution it can be cold along the coast. May you be blessed with no wildfires interrupting your travels. California is in a significant drought, if driving through watch and smell for fire, it can change your itinerary if you have to go around it. Hope to see you in San Antonio

Hi Shaun, that knish you were eating is a famous Gabilla's brand of potato knish.
As a rule knishes are usually stuffed with potatoes, kasha, meat, broccoli & cheese, or spinach.
In NYC there are many other suppliers than Gabilla's including Homemade in the Deli's kitchen.
On a chilly day when I was a boy, I remember that nothing "hit the spot" better than a good slice of pizza or a hot dog & potato knish & soda! And man you could smell the aroma of the knishes and hot dogs cooking a block away...and you always got your Money's worth because you would have that Good Heartburn ! LOLOL 😂
Every culture has a stuffed filled savory pastry....these were brought to NYC by European Jews like Bagels and Bialy's. There are Gourmet Knishes but I want to stress that at one time this was common people's food , filling, delicious and affordable...but Now they just charge too much $$ money for everything.
Shaun, I hope you will have time to return to NYC on back end and tour Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island and see for yourself what changes you notice since the pandemic and Civil Unrest & Crime forced so so many businesses to close....it would be great if you were able to speak with people in these areas that were there and saw what happened because it's true what you heard about the violence and crime. ( Just my humble thoughts) BTW same thing goes for San Francisco and LA!
Dr. Browns soda originally manufactured in college point NY, should still be available in Cream/ diet cream (the best tasting diet soda)..Black Cherry/ diet B C, root beer, & cola( my least favorite!) And one very STRANGE flavor called Cell Ray 😋 Guess what... It's celery flavored soda...I KNOW ,I KNOW YOU'RE THINKING THAT SOUNDS AWFUL... Although an acquired taste...it actually goes great with a pastrami sandwich! Anything else that soda flavor overpowers ..🤣
Travel Safe My Friend and enjoy the USA!

Manhattan is tall because the ground is limited, and extremely valuable, so... To maximize value, they build up. And, since Manhattan has an excellent stony foundation, 'up' can be very, very 'up' indeed.
