I think From a Jack to a King was number one for Ned in the sixties, but this should have got there as well...i am 64 now and the old songs are the best.
Glenn Johnson Sang this song just last week at a gig, followed by Jack to a king.Still have the original 45.Absolute classic. They dont write em like this anymore. Thanks for uploading this one!
I remember listening to it when I was 9 years old, it was the first record my dad bought when we had a new record player, & I still Love to hear it now
Had they released this song after "From a Jack to a King", then he would have another hit. "Big Love" is another winner that we have yet to see Posted, but this song missed the Pop Charts, so it is, unfortunately, obscure. I remember buying that song on Fabor Records, too, in 1963. Thanks for Posting this flip side. (I thought I would be one of the few people to really remember & like this tune. Now, others will get to hear this song thanks to BladeSteve2007!)
Until a few days ago, I had never heard of this song before, I'm from Malta, and all the stations ever play, and have played for years, are his "From A Jack To A King" and "Do What You Do, Do Well". Then, a few days ago, this Country DJ on the radio said he's gonna play a Ned Miller song that most listeners would be hearing for the first time. The voice and the lyrics are themselves nothing short of a cascading parade of broken hearts. And now from one of the comments below I stumbled on something else as heart-breaking as this song: that Ned Miller has moved on. How is it that some with so much talent are overlooked? And those with less become household words. Is it the agent, the PR machine or a gullible public? For so many years I thought all Ned Miller had was those two songs. Each time his name came up over the radio I would be able to guess either of the songs were about to be played. And I finally grew to almost ridicule him. I too must have belonged to the gullible public for not trying to find if there was something more to the man. My eyes are welling up now, Ned. Please accept my heartfelt apologies., from a truly broken heart.
@chrisking1946 No never saw her again, I was young and met many german frauline's. Our letters just dried up and 10 years later I married and 36 years later we are still together, through many tribualtions and a cancer. Thanks for your comments it was kind of you
As a ‘B’ side to Ned’s huge hit from a Jack to a King’ this song was amazingly good. It should have been released as an ‘A’ side record on its own merits.
Remember this song August 1964 when I was 17. I was saying goodbye to my girlfriend as I was about to start a 9 year posting to Germany in the Army. She played this record over and over again that night, and it's nice to hear it again and reminisce
Thanks BladeSteve2007 for posting this song I think its one of his BEST, again TRUE COUNTRY MUSIC sung the COUNTRY WAY.........LOVE IT..screw NASHVILLE
I also agree with Christine Coleman i too am 64 and don't think you can beat these oldies, iv'e got something like 60 thousand records in my loft but due to illness i cant go up there anymore, and it's been years since i could, i'm only glad i boxed them all up a few years ago.Mike P.
I love this song..remember growing up listening to it at the party's after the pub closed..at our little country town Bothwell in Tasmania Australia
Must be a Tassie thing, my Mums fave back in the day...I was born in Hobart!
Should be played so much more these days. What a pure voice. I heard this when it was brand new. What a joy to have experienced.
