OK. I finally found someone on the internet that agrees with me about MM9. Why does every stage have spikes in it? MM2 didn't do that, and the opinion that MM2's the worst classic series game is really popular at the moment. [EDIT: A *ridiculously* lengthy comment will be below; don't read it if you don't want to.] 2 has some bad level/boss design at CERTAIN POINTS, but it doesn't utterly swamp you with spikes like 9 does, and it doesn't assume that you're a hardcore Mega Man fan who eats difficult games as a light midnight snack, again, like 9 does. I sometimes wonder if people actually like Mega Man 9 purely because of NES nostalgia, because it honestly only felt fun to play after I beat it, unlike Mega Man 10. I wasn't around to play N64 games when they came out, let alone games from earlier consoles, but my brother got an N64 and a PS1 for his birthday in 2004 (from two different friends), so I got into older games through Super Mario 64 and Beyblade on PS1. I later played Super Mario Crossover, found out about Mega Man, and it quickly became my favourite game franchise - tied with Pokémon. I live in the British Isles, so the NES was never actually popular here - we mainly stuck to anything that didn't involve Nintendo for some reason, making Mega Man unheard of due to its origins on the NES. All Mega Man games after 3 (with the exception of Battle Network, due to no region locking in the GBA) are virtually impossible to find online or in old game shops unless you have a spare £100 lying around, which I didn't as a kid. I somehow got a copy of Mega Man 2 from eBay for £10, but that was insane luck. I later saw Mega Man 3 on eBay for £15, but I had already bid my pocket money on a Pokémon Emerald cartridge, so I missed that one. Basically, to get my Mega Man fix, I mainly had to play the much slower PAL version of Mega Man 2, emulate the rest of the games, and watch Clement play the PS1 games. So I always made sure to cherish my time being able to play a physical copy of a Mega Man game. It feels a bit like playing with your old dog that you had as a puppy; they're not as fast as you remember them and they don't look as good as "newer" dogs, but you still love them as much as the moment you first met them. You know they might die soon, so you cherish each moment you have with them. (Weird analogy, I know, and cat owners won't relate to it in the same way as dog owners, but that's as much wisdom as I can offer - I'm still young.) I really looked forward to playing Mega Man 9 when I bought it last summer, but I stopped trying to play it when I was faced with its spike problem. I was playing on a Wii U and the Wiimote kept suddenly failing to accept inputs when I curled my hand over its sensor. All of this made me frustrated, so I didn't pick up Mega Man 9 again until Halloween. I beat it in one try after remembering where each enemy was placed, whether they kept respawning after an unforgiving amount of movement offscreen or just popped up like the hedge trimmer enemies in Hornet Man's stage. I didn't enjoy Mega Man 9 at all in my first run, even though I had so much fun with Mega Man 2's drastically slower PAL version (despite its bad design in places), but I recently bought Mega Man 10 and had a blast. People didn't seem to like it as much as Mega Man 9 when it first came out, but I think 10 has aged WAY better than 9, especially in terms of actually feeling like a classic MM game. 9's bosses just don't strike a chord with me the way 1's, 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's, 8's and 10's do. It all boils down to one guy: the goofy one. He's there to tell you that it's a happy, cartoon-ish game. The game doesn't take itself too seriously, and you shouldn't take it too seriously either. He takes the fall for the others so they can be cool, because he's cool like that anyway. He'll be the one to be laughed at by people, but he makes the game a bit more fun, and hopefully a bit more popular. 1 had Bomb Man. I don't know what he's supposed to look like, but he looks like a Saturday morning cartoon villain with a bright, colourful design. Maybe the developers saw his design and decided to make one goofy guy as an on-running joke! 2 had three of these in my opinion: Heat Man, Air Man and Wood Man. Heat Man looks like he just got out of bed for a hot cup of coffee, Air Man looks like a large blue frog-fan thing, and Wood Man is a tree with memes. He can kill you with leaves. You're not supposed to take him seriously. 3 has -a furry- Snake Man and -a Ben and Jerry's mascot- Top Man, as well as -a failed Spike Man- Needle Man. 4 has Toad Man, who is everyone's first RM fight in 4. No exceptions. He's followed by Professor Brightman... er, Bright Man, no professor. 5 has Thomas' road-rage cousin Charge Man. 6... everybody. Seriously, they knew what they were doing. They were going out with a bang, so they wanted the baddies to be extra special, but Centaur Man is the silliest. He has novelty joke breasts on when you fight him. 7 has Cloud Man, who is weak to the Bubble-Thing, and Spring Man, who thought he was getting his own game until recently. 8 has 90's videogame voice acting, so no-one's taken seriously whether they were meant to be or not, but Aqua Man is just intentionally funny. 10 has Sheep Man. I feel like no-one understood Mega Man bosses until they looked at Sheep Man for a few years, realised that he was meant to be goofy, and then found all the other goofy Robot Masters in previous games. 9 doesn't really have anyone that's like this. Even Plug Man looks too threatening. It doesn't really matter if he's pink, he looks like a bulldog - too tough. It's like the art director forgot to make one boss that makes you chuckle when you look at them for the first time. In short, I don't think I have the same preferences as absolutely hardcore Mega Man fans that just plough through everything buster-only with no damage, especially not people that have played Mega Man since the beginning, but that means that I don't have any sense of Nintendo Hard nostalgia that they *might* do. I should be able to look at each game more objectively (at least, I don't think I should be too biased), and I think that Mega Man 9 could have been something great. For what it is, it's okay. The dev. team hadn't made a classic Mega Man game for 10 years at that point in time, so they still had to pick up their skills again. I think of 9 as an experiment that was later improved upon with 10.

I think that this might be the one track that I feel worked better with the SENS setup. The softer instruments made the song feel more somber & ominous, which definetly fit the moment alot better. Also, nothing can top that original bass. That bass is fucking badass!
