Thanks Michelle! I’m hoping people find this format helpful. It’s hard for me to give full reviews that feel like they matter. Because I often just don’t get games like this in advance like other YT channels.
Very good views on Arkham Shadow, I personally purchased a meta quest 3S to play this game and was super pleased with the game as a whole. The main issue which I had to do with the game was with the end segment where there was at launch MASSIVE gameplay bugs where the final area crashed around fifteen times when I was attempting to play it. However as said in this video which is addressing other issues the game as a whole runs well (providing the hardware it is running off of) and that it is a very good aspect of the Arkham universe.
Hmm interesting! I never encountered anything that severe. It crashed one or twice and I had 1 grate that wouldn’t open and 1 door. Both were fixed with just reloading the save the goodness. And now that I think about, the crashing I experienced was caused by recording at the same time.
Agreed they have! When I played on launch day, I noticed quite a few stutters and slow downs, especially with the smoke grenade. But after a patch they cleared it up.
I appreciate the honest review but calling it a 1 star review is overkill and pretty much sets the tone to a dishonest review. I do agree it's not a perfect game and has flaws but compared to other quest 3 games (as to which we should base our reviews) it certainly stands on the top 4 stars at the very least.
I dont see anyone talking about this but I hate the combat system works. I hate the fact you have to fight with directions. It really takes me out of the experience.
@@bmackVRit’s worse than Until You Fall combat though because that game had constant upgrades and perks and it felt like you had more control of your slashes being you just had to slash through the pattern and could do that any way you like. Not with this game though it’s more restrictive and combat is the same basically through the end
Excellent video as always! I couldn’t agree more with every thing you brought up. Where you and I found it as lacking, others found these aspects as positives. The entire walking simulator aspect with the loading screens, I mean doors, was one of the cumbersome, boring, flawed aspects of the game that stood out immensely IMO. Game is definitely a lot of fun, and does a ton of aspects very well, but nowhere near a top 5 VR game to me, but I know others who think it’s their best game.
You should put our a community post saying you changed the title of the video because I saw the top comment and I just think most people are unaware(I didn't check if you did or not)
I kinda like the formatting of the video but I think it does the same thing that you’re complaining about overhyping does. Focusing only on the negatives creates a one dimensional perspective on the game. A fair and balanced review highlighting both the positives and negatives of a game is much more informative and just makes for a better video overall imo.
Also I don’t understand the praise for the combat system it looks very floaty and like the punches don’t have real weight. That might be different when you actually play it but Arkham combat is supposed to feel simultaneously smooth and full of destructive power. I just don’t see that in the combat system in this game.
So here is my reasoning for this format. I don’t often get early access reviews to games and when I do. I still can’t play the entire game, and make a video for when the game releases. So this video releases 1-2 months after a game releases. By that time, I assume you have already watched other reviews from people like GT or Beardo. So that leads me to think most people don’t need to know the basics like how the combat feels or specific mechanics. I also have a theory that there are a lot of people who are just interested in what is bad about a game to see if it’s a deal breaker.
Great idea. Its like an anti-review. I love VR but i do feel like many hyped games get praised based on cope. VR gamers are hungry. Vampire: Justice comes to mind. I enjoy the game but good grief, its not impressive in the slightest. If it was flat it wouldn't get a 2nd look from anyone, yet in VR it won awards. I'm also on PSVR2 so it can be slim pickings depending on your appreciation for indie titles. All the same, some of my favorite VR games were absolutely roasted in reviews. Hype or no hype, lots of great VR games to enjoy.
Hey fancy seeing you here lol. And thanks for the feedback. Agree with you on Vampire. The AI in that game is just broken and so is the balance. I think I’ll continue this series and I’ll probably do a video of a similar style for Behemoth even though I just posted my standard review for it. I could probably dive a bit deeper into the negatives and I need to play more of the PSVR 2 version.
I like your review; it exactly matches my personal feedback on the game. There are many great things in it, but I think they should have set most of it in the city rather than the Blackgate location, where 70% of the game takes place. The city is highly underrepresented, while Blackgate feels very repetitive and not that impressive overall. I still hope to see further updates, improvements, or DLCs focused on the city location, at least for the challenge mode.
Yep my thoughts exactly! I bet they wanted to make this game in Gotham proper, but they were worried about comparisons to open world Arkham games. And I didn’t touch on this in the video, but I’m sure that’s because this game needs to run on the quest hardware.
@ Basically, the first 30% of the game already takes place in the city, and they could have expanded that to cover a larger portion. Blackgate, as an idea, would have been fine if it made up just 15% of the game. Maybe they’ll address this in the sequel-keeping my hopes up.
Obviously too young to remember how rubbish gaming flat screen let alone vr has come fabulous game, everything has flaws, just enjoy we so lucky things have come this far.
Just wondering, I had frame drops in some parts such as during the large predator fights. Was this just me or was this common, also the frame drops during the “doors” were a big hint that they were loading screens.
Not sure how I feel about this. While I get really p1ssed about dishonest, obviously sponsored rave reviews, there are some things, good or bad, that I want to find out by myself. Tough one. I appreciate your good intention and honesty though.
Appreciate the feedback! My intent was to show the stuff that gets glossed over. As a reviewer it’s very easy to get focused on the stuff that gets you excited.
@bmackVR yeah, appreciate what you are trying to do. It is a good idea and some things need to be highlighted that others are turning a blind eye to. For example, i was really disappointed with Metro, but everyone else loved it. However, maybe I am not the target audience for this type of content. I am the type of person that when I am interested in a film, game, or new record, I ignore all the reviews and hype, so I can make my own judgement. Perhaps I shouldn't have watched your video! 😂
I tend to do the same with trailers. I watch like one of them and then don’t really pay attention to a game. Curious, do you think I spoiled anything? I am trying to figure out exactly when that line gets crossed.
@bmackVR Nah, man. I made the choice to watch your video before playing the game (only just got it) so you haven't done anything wrong. Based on title of your video, I got the impression you were going to rip apart someone else's 1 star review, because I know you like the game. My misunderstanding.
@ hmm this is good feedback actually titles are very important around here. I thought about using the title instead Batman Arkham Shadow, JUST THE NEGATIVES. Thoughts?
Most batman games had alot of slow paced detective/story sections. So you cant really complain that this game does that too. If you want to just go punch some dudes im pretty sure theres a challenge mode for that. I agree with most of your opinions though.
Great idea for a series! With this game being a lot more expensive than usual, it's helpful to know how to set my expectations.
Thanks Ender!
Well balanced review. This has a more genuine and real feel vs they hype train seen w some. Thx!! ❤
Thanks Christian! Appreciate the feedback
interesting take on reviews, glad you stated up front and at end how much you love the game is good to also see some of the negative points

@@bmackVR The developers have done a very good job at addressing any bugs and now they seem limited with patches that have followed since release.

Ok I changed the title of the video. Can’t do anything about the narration now.
Much better title @@bmackVR

I can see how someone who wants physics driven combat would be let down. This certainly isn’t that. This is much closer to Until You Fall.

Thank you! This seems to be a very polarizing game. Some people really seem to defend its weaknesses and say that’s just how the Arkham games are.

Good point! I’ll post something tomorrow about it!
Remember back in the day when Resident Evil's door opening loading screens where seen as effective tension builders. What a scam lol.
Haha yeah resident evil does it a little better.
@@bmackVR I think Mass Effect did it as well and i didn't realise the elevator sections were loading screens. Blatant in hindsight.

Nice idea and everyone loves a "all the things wrong with" but they're usually comedic. It's nice to have serious expose reviews lol.
Thanks for the feedback! I can’t be that ADHD comedy channel tossing out over the top zingers lol
