The Nas bit was not just a shoutout, but a foreshadowing. If you look at the timeline of music Ren released around this time, you'll notice that he did the Fred Again mashup which had a Fred Again song in it called Jungle. Then he did this song by Jungle where he shouts out Nas. His next release was the Halftime retake.
Ren is simply amazing with this one. I think he threw everyone for a loop when this dropped. Jungle and the Police and then a bit of rap in the middle? That is just a Ren Oreo Cookie goodness. Ren has made me find that love for music again.

Ren's covers that are his own creation are called "retakes" so look for those. He is a master of infusing his own flavor into existing songs. This is part of why he says in Hi Ren "the pinnacle of your success is stealing other people's material." Can't wait to see you watch those!!

Back on 74 was released last year by a group called Jungle, who are also awesome :) He's wearing his suit from Money Game 3, which I think they were doing around the same time. The bass guitarist is his friend Kai, who also acted as Kujo in Kujo Beat Down. The original back on '74 is very different. Ren harmonises like a master. Try Chalk Outlines or How To Be Me for more amazing harmonies.

I was vibing the whole time with this, this is one of my favorite Ren covers. Grabbed my coffee for some sipping when we hit the cup rating. I'd have been sipping the whole time, but I had to wait for a medicine to hit my blood stream before adding calories (thyroid stuff)
If you want a Ren song without bars, you need to check out Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla. Also, you just need to check out Chinchilla, I can definitely suggest her song Elements. It says lyrics video, but that's a lil decieving

Ren is a cover, mash up master. Honestly, I don't say it lightly. Dude can mix andatch and smash up anything and make it sound not only like and original but also an awesome homage to the classics. And yeah, Ren really helped pull me back into music. I never left it, but I was seeking out weirder and weirder stuff just trying to find something interesting (some of which is actually pretty good, just... weird. Diablo Swing Orchestra is FUN)
But between Ren and an artist from Los Angeles named Darien Martus, I'm back in. They both reach through the cloud of pop nonsense lyrics and hit you right in your soul with some real facts, real feels, and real musicality as well. Ren of course led me to Chinchilla and a few others. It's amazing what finding some real toothsome music can do for the soul
