Mark looks like a mason - tough and craggy - like my old boss. Don't know why but even with all the newer folks succeeding and keeping the TOH dream alive, they will never be able to replace the legends - Tommy, Norm, Roger, Richard, Steve, and Kevin. That group of guys just had magic together!
This ruclips.net/user/postUgkxATHBlMJwipGgVWseuAFKvDQ_5R4_lywo unit was an easy install and turned out amazing. The dimensions were exact! I took a chance and built the wall prior to receiving the unit which arrived sooner than expected and it fit right in the space I constructed. The heat output is perfect for the space we needed and made the room exactly how we envisioned it to turn out. I am happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Thank you for the awesome product just in time for the holidays.
Mark is the man. I always get nervous when he starts but it finishes up great. And she had natural talent back buttering those pieces. Either she's artistic or a great baker or both.
Think she has artistic flair. But she was definitely bitten by the diy bug. Just look at how her eyes shined when she smiled she enjoyed the hell out of that project.
another nice product to consider is a Real Rock Veneer it is a natural stone that is sawed into a non weight product you can even get corners just like he showed in the beginning
I was wondering if there has ever been a bloopers show for this old house and then the poor girl dropped the mud on her first attempt. She did great after that.
I have been doing so much research on what’s the safest paint to use on a gas fireplace surround. My surround and hearth are black tile I want to paint them white and do a stencil pattern. I have not found anyone who gives good info I’ve seen chalk paint, latex, spray paint so I’m really not sure what to do can anyone give me some helpful tips?
I’m doing a similar project but I have a question. Do I need that metal mesh for the scratch coat if my manufactured stone is going onto durock cement board? Thank you!
Would be really cool if they hired her to do a similar job as Kevin. Asking the questions from a novice’s perspective so the viewer can understand better. She seemed really comfortable in front of the camera.
No the fire is down far enough and back far enough there is not enough heat to affect the electronics. Plus its a modern fire place built out of fire brick so it is very well insulated. They use these bricks in black smith forges and heat treating ovens. Only tge surface of the brick gets hot there is no transfer through. If it was too hot for the tv they wouldn't use the wood timber mantel
@@Kevin-mp5of actually I have quite a few IPC certs. I do know about tools because I inspect them for a living lol. Nevertheless I stand corrected, that drill needs an oil change.
@@Kevin-mp5of yes it does take oil. I saw it with my own eyes. You dip the drill in oil and you change the oil and done. You can also spray air freshener in the slot to make it smell good. OMG Kevin everyone knows that.
Mark. I have a situation and don't know how to address it. I have a brick fireplace and I want to mount a 65" TV above the mantel. My issue is this, I have drywall over the brick above the mantel with a large flat mirror attached to it. How do I find the meaty part of the brick(no edges or mortar) when it's behind the drywall without destroying the drywall?
The TV is way too high, the correction height is suppose to be such that the center of the screen is eye level while seated. Major fail. Also, the hearth is inside the fire box the thing outside the fire box that he is calling the hearth is hearth extension.
Could have at least went with a natural thin stone veneer. Such a small amount of square footage wouldn’t have broken the bank. I wouldn’t put that fake crap on a doghouse.
Nice job by both of them. Mark is a good teacher, also allows the homeowner to truly get involved.

Looks 1000% better and the look in her eyes she had fun doing it. She might be looking into doing more projects like this in the future.
I wouldn't mind being her handy man

Wow, Shelby's new host material. She's adorable

Definitely dude, I didn’t listen to a word mark said after she got on screen😂

I'd let her butter my piece if you know what I mean cause I don't.
Def a good baker. She’s a woman
I like Mark. He's a good teacher. Also does great work.
thanks for showing the finished product
Wow holy crap.. that is amazing work.. these masonry videos are top notch.. the materials are awesome, looks 1000 times better

Another good job by Mark.

Flannel game is strong with these 2
lucky husband. She's a keeper
Should use bonding adhesive with stone
Why are the 45 degree miters conveniently left out of the video?
What's the trick to leveling the hearth? Do you just put down a bunch of mortar and wiggle until it's level?
I’d like to know the answer to this too
@@Kevin-mp5of Makes sense, thanks. I didn't catch that from the video.
That's great, this will help me when I try to vaneer my exterior block chimney with river stone.
Excellent job 👍
Cement board is a better way to go, less working and mess and even holds better
Can I just use PL glue for the same stone over brick? Didn’t want to do to much work
Winner winner!
@@Kevin-mp5of.....when who walked all atwitter
Wow. Great job!
Very nice. Good job!
Some manufactured stone doesn't pull water all that great.
Can this be done over brick and mortar?
I've dropped a ton of cement right on my finished hardwood floor just like she did.
The best thing to do is let it completely dry and harden and then move out.
Shelby is just a doll.
Manufactured stone it's a peace of concrete made to look like stone
She seemed like a great student, got right in there and got her hands dirty... Nice work Mark

Yes you do
What kind of cement you used For the stucco ?
Cool content
So the anchores every 12" ?
Fantastic
A little dark for my tastes but still a nice project.
What is the make of the stone and where is it to purchase
What kind of nails you used for the wire??
Cronctete anchors. Dottie makes them.

Cute girl and the fireplace came out great i love it

You realize the hearth is on the floor for this fireplace right? The mantle is what's above the fireplace (firebox).
Shelby is beautiful!
What a smoke show she is. Well done!
What's the point of stuccoing it first?
She's gorgeous!

Looks better but the hearth is meh. Would've looked better with granite that has some deep colors in it.

No eye protection is a big NO NO!!
No anchors for the veneer stones? No good. This mortar can shrink and the veneer can get loose.
Lol. It’s adhered veneer. Use a polymer modified mortar and it isn’t going anywhere. How are you going to anchor it?
Safety glasses please.
