Pretty obvious it wasn't just my eyes lighting up with seeing an extra episode pop up this week 😆Great to have a recap of what turned out fantastic, looking forward as always to Sunday 🙂
It took me a while before i realized this was a recap of the stove build. At first i was thinking did he not finished one already, where needs this one be placed .... etc.
Can we just give a shout out to Martijn's KNEES?!? No knee-pads, no spongy cushion, no stack of towels ... every week I marvel how the heck does he do that on stone and concrete floors for hours at a time! Tge man is a wonder of nature! Just love him!!!❤❤❤❤❤
A good way to see the stove build, faster and more concise, but not forgetting all the huge effort to perfect the finished build. It looks absolutely beautiful Martijn, you must be very proud. And I can almost smell that bread!! It was also beautiful, but very sad, to see the black chicken again, before the dog attack. You can really see how much bigger the white and brown hens have grown since little Blackie was killed. A lot has happened, and when you see time reduced like this it shows very clearly how hard you have worked to get where you are today. Well done, and thank you for the huge amount of work you put into producing the videos for us each week. To do all that on top of your physical efforts on the build is truly a testament to you Martijn.
I know that the weekly video editing has been tireless and sometimes tedious work for you! But what a joy for the newcomers to your channel to be able to comprehend, in even a SMALL part, the work that has been done by your masterful hands! They still need to see the videos from the beginning to fully understand your dream and your day to day accomplishments! You're my hero and I wouldn't consider my Sunday complete without seeing you and the chickens, following you around, clucking their joy when they see you coming to open their hutch! 🤗💕💕
You make everything you do look so effortless!! A dead giveaway that it’s complicated. I love your meticulous working approach. This house has soul.❤️💕❤️
I was surprised to see the stove build this week...my plan is to introduce this in my build in western Canada where the temperatures are mid range through out the year as we are mountainous prairie conditions here, however, be interesting to see how this stands up to our seasonals and winter here, may need some backup but looking forward to the heat this produces as well. Nice to see this episode in a build all of its own from start to finish which will be included in a must see video to my builders who assemble mine here. Thanks for the memory and recap. Martijn, this build is by far the most impressive work I've seen in my 50 years and counting as a builder and now building sciences engineer. It must be the mountain air in addition to dedication and a will to do better. Cheers
The building of the masonry stove separate is a work of art.....the stove AND the filming of the build such a pleasure to see the whole poetic process. Such stand-alone episodes deserve their own day of the week to note video focus is "different" somehow. The building of the fire, such a sensory experience, such a symbolic one as well. Home....you've made a Home.
I'm so impressed with the speed in which Martijn learns new skills! Stonemasonry is VERY uncommon yet here he is chiseling that stone like this was the olden days and stone was the only way to get construction materials.
Nice reminder of all the work you put into making this. Three words come to mind... determination, fortitude and integrity. The work you put into your projects are just amazing. That goes with your videos for all of us as well. Do take care of that back. Get help when it's needed. Have a blessed Easter.
I’m sitting in my timber frame home I built on my own and am currently finishing up the final details. The feeling of completion of every detail feels unbelievable and seeing him sit there enjoying his hard work makes me smile. Because I know exactly what he’s feeling.
Just reading through the comments and noticing how kind everyone is towards you Martjn. It's so nice to see. You have a really special channel. Thank you for sharing it with us and for the surprise video! 😊
Hi Martijn, thanks for bringing together the different aspects of the stove and staircase creations. You are an amazing artisan in many disciplines. Truly gifted! Thank you for sharing your vision and hard work with the world. ❤ from Florida
I echo everyone else's delight about an extra video, Martijn! I chuckled when the chicken peeked in the window the first time you showed her and again in this video, I chuckled. What a massive and successful project. It was great to see the whole thing from start to finish. Thank you so much.
After you completed the upper deck & the flow between the two floors was established , it just exploded in my head , what you had foreseen & created !!! magnum opus !!!
Wow Martijn, well done! Was great to see the whole process in one video, thank you so much. I am still in awe of the precision and care of every project you have done so far, and what I know we will see in all the coming projects. Thank you so much for sharing them with us. Looking forward to the next one! Take care!
I met the proprietor of Tempcast 20 years ago at a log home convention in Ohio. I eventually purchased on of these units when I built my own custom home. I was incredibly impressed with the engineering of the pieces. My understanding is that the crushed gravel for the concrete mixture comes from a quarry in Georgia, USA. When I Had a young family we cooked many excellent pizzas in the upper bake oven. Average cook time was 4-5 minutes once the fire in the combustion chamber died down. Those are great memories for me. Putting the pieces together with refractory cement, ratchet straps and packing tape then mixing mortar for my father who laid the bricks for me. I even drove up to Canada to pick up the unit in my pickup which I still drive today. That was pre Trudeau and after 911 when a passport was not required.
So Impressed just by the drawing, I subbed and have yet to continue watching the build. I can’t build to save myself. Saw, hammer screwdriver sure but any other tool I’m lost on their names and how to use. I know this is going to be amazing. That drawing did it for me!
Appreciate what rocks and stones give the creator in return for ones imagination and excellent finish work,re watching the puzzle being grouted and honed brushed and chiseled an swept, acid washed and re swept again, well worth the watch. grew up in the trade understand the satisfaction in completing the project. thanks for taking us along.
This was such an undertaking, and in my opinion best project you've done so far. It's much more than rebuilding something, it's literally creating something out of nothing. There was nothing there before you imagined integrated oven and staircase that will connect two floors for the first time. It took me quite a while to visualise what you had in mind from the beginning. Congratulations on job well done.
Ooo yessss 🤩 I thought last time it was a full video of the build and it turned out to be just a video of the fire itself, here it then is... Thanks Matijn, made my day!
You've got a cozy set-up there. It's nice to know that the heat from the hearth is absorbed in the stones surrounding the hearth and that the stones radiate that same heat into the room.
Hi Martijn! What a nice surprise to see a post from you today! 😊 Thank you for reminding me/us of how your stove works. Last Sunday with all the snow and you working in the room with no fire I had forgotten you did explain prior that it would stay warm all day. Enjoyed watching the start to finish of the stove build, enjoyed seeing it as a whole. It captures how much heavy work was involved! It’s good to see you reaping the benefits during the cold winter days, happy for you in your cozy cabin! See you in next video. Hope you are having a good week! 💚 from Texas
Incredible how far you’ve come! I was just remembering the first few episodes when you were pulling those massive floor stones out of the cow shed room. Now look at it!
I can watch your videos for hours, so relaxing 😌 and your hard work is looking absolutely beautiful 😍, greetings from Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦 (my hubby is Dutch)
Lovely surprise, for a moment I had to think what day is it, absolutely love this journey you are taking us along on, from when you bought the place, watching all the work you have done, the seasons changing, the hikes you have taking us on, the beautiful scenery, love it all. 🙏❤️👏👏👏👏
Chau Martijn! It was a good idea to compile videos that recall the assembly and construction of your stove. It serves as a lesson for anyone who wants to opt for this solution in other contexts. Until Sunday.

Mesmerized and taken in, every step of the way! And like the others commenting, I was thrilled to be seeing your video, earlier than usual. What a treat! Thank you Martijn
What an unexpected extra treat, being able to watch the whole process in one video. Thank you! Still very fascinating! Best fireplace/baking oven/water heater/radiant heater/grand staircase I've ever seen. I love how in the previous episode he turned it into a towel/clothes/ hat dryer with slots in a floorboard. Brilliant! I'd love a slice of his bread or pizza. 🎉
Thank you Martijn, I'm a new follower and found your channel while on vacation. I love the way you've lovingly restored the little cabin and I can't wait to see the plans for the big cabin.
What a lucky day is this? Do your chickens have names? Are you getting more? What about a dog? Thanks Martijn! All my neighbors thank you too. Because of you, I've started baking bread in my Dutch oven! What fun. And it's delicious.
Wow I love this mid week❤❤ Looking back at this video you did so much during the rain in autumn. It was a labour of love, the finished stonework is so beautiful
In the US similar technology is often called a rocket stove mass heater. The rocket stove is probably traditional masonry stove burn techniques someone saw on a trip to Europe, adapted slightly and renamed to give it a newer more snazzy modern sounding image.

Watching this recap reminds me of how much joy Martjin has brought us over the entire time he has been in the Piedmont. Thank you.

Turned my Thursday into Sunday. Nice to see the recap of the stove build.

Agree . I subbed after watching this , my first viewing . Beautiful work and design filmed very well by a pro for himself .
No cursing, no lost temper. Just slow, deliberate, steady work.
