Backroll Variations - 1 Trick - 6 WAYS? I landed it! FIRST TRY EVER!

- Look at that big smile on my face! Why am I grinning like a kid who just got up on a wakeboard for the first time? Because I just nailed a new trick!
...
Yes, a new trick, even after doing this professionally for over 25 years! And let me tell you from experience, the stoke of a new trick never gets old! In this edit, my plan was to explain the difference in a standard Backroll and a Mexi-Roll, and why not do both regular and switch? I was feeling good, so I went for a Roll to Blind, which I’ve done countless times in the past, but definitely not many in the past few years. Was I coaxed by Tim, my videographer, to go for it? Yes... And well... I landed it! I was super pumped, and in that instant I realized the huge potential for new tricks at this slow speed. Just as I’m taking in this thought, Tim yells from the boat: “DO IT SWIIIIIITCH!” I shook my head and looked down at the water because I didn’t want to even process this trick. I’ve never even attempted a Switch Roll to Blind.
Then, I had that moment of challenge in myself. That inner voice started talking, “Can I do a Switch Roll to Blind? Sure I can, no I can’t, I mean I think I can, but it’s my weaker spin direction, I’ve never tried it, can I commit to doing this?” I tried it... and I nailed it! Thanks for the push, Tim! 👊
That new-trick feeling never goes away, never gets old, and always pushes us to keep riding. I know it’s easy to get stuck in the way we ride, how we angle our boots, how we grip the handle, the list goes on and on. Try something new, a new trick, or a new way of riding. It can change everything.
Questions? Comments? Drop them below-and let me know if you want to see more LOW SPEED - HIGH REWARD riding. How big is your smile when you nail a new trick?

No matter the level of rider the excitement level is still the same when landing a new trick and you never forget that feeling. I still remember the excitement I had when I first started riding, 1 of my first tricks was landing a simple ollie 180, that feeling pushes to keep on learning more. SOO awesome thanks for sharing.
Very cool Shaun
Nice!
Koltyn- Thanks bro!
@@Shaun.Murray thanks Shaun you’re been my inspiration and someone to look up to and I’ve been getting better! You have the best tips thanks!
Spent all last summer trying to land my heelside backroll, can't wait to get it on lock this summer. Did finally get my tumbleturn going though, nailed it for the first time on my last run of the season last year. No better feeling. Thanks for your awesome viddy's Shaun!
Any tips for somebody used to gymnastics flips vs. wakeboard flips? Been a gymnast for 15+ years so I know how to flip but wakeboarding technique is super different for me
Nice work and sweet to hear you're crackin off a tumble turn!
@@jjgymnastics you're right that the flips are initiated differently for the most part but the air awareness that you have puts you way ahead of the curve. Make sure you understand the foundation of riding bc the physics become different in your understanding and then the flips become much easier. Have you watched this and put it to use yet? ruclips.net/video/eSJPitLMRY8/видео.html
Yup just watched it again and reviewed some of the differences and corrections I need to make from some videos I have of my rides last summer. Now I just need winter to end so I can get back on the water!
Every time I watch one of these I want to get on the water. 👍
so clean..
👊🏼
Back rolls are still so fun! I need to learn to grab mine though
That was sick!! Love videos! Still dying to get back on the water. Hopefully someone soon! Anyway thanks for the videos!!!
So good. Love you. Thanks!
You make this look too easy! But every time I watch these videos it makes me want to get out there and get better!
Haha that’s awesome man! When I had my switch handle pass roll to blind on locked, I got a good air time and thought I should try kgb and landed on first try! I was really stoked like you did in this video 😂😂👍🏼👍🏼 I am sure you can do handle pass to blind then kgb.... DO IT!!
Mitch, first off, really appreciate you watching! Secondly, that's sick you did switch KGB! Thirdly, that sounds crazy to think of doing either of those tricks, the switch handle pass roll backside 180...and the switch KGB...nuts. BUT, then again, I didn't think I'd be doing the switch roll to blind...ever! Good seein your name pop up on here as always homie!
Yoooo the stoke is real! That’s how I felt landing my first one wake jump this summer hahaha. Congrats!
Hahahha right
Aka SKELETOR! Way to go, Shaun, Chase Heavener would be proud!
🤣
🤜💥🤛
You make it look so easy. For a new wake boarder that has never done a flip, how would I begin to learn to flip.
Matt Perry-
Thanks, easy or not, I'm enjoying my ride! If you are new to wakeboarding, before trying your first flips, lay a solid foundation. Check this out:

New jacket looks nice! Where's the cactus :D
Well done Señor Murray
Little Ocean Drop- Thanks 'ppreciate the props!
wow epic video! nice job! I really wanna do a lesson once it warms up in the spring! have you ever been to lake Burton?
I don't think I've been there DDD
@@Shaun.Murray it’s in north GA
How colds the water?
Can’t wait to do this out on the water next summer. My lakes frozen. Thanks for the tips
About 63. Not freezing but you're not gonna wanna swim around after your set:)
🔥🔥
Watched about a dozen times in slow motion but my untrained eye couldn't spot the difference. Maybe mention what to look for to help us newbies that don't yet know the terminology. I finally noticed that with the Mexi you let go with one hand but that didn't match up with your other passes. I did see you explain it in the comments below, so thanks for that. Love your videos.
Shaun you’re kinda good at wakeboarding man. Ever thought of going pro????
Not yet Montana but thanks for the encouraging words!!
Cant wait to get back rolls on lock this season
Nolan-
What up buddy! Man, let me know how it goes on the bankrolls 👍
Auto correct changes backrolls to bankrolls - coincidence?
🏄♂️ 🤷♂️ 💵
All last summer i was trying to do backroll ,but in the end only disappointed,;))
alezi cc- I've been there, keep trying, keep a positive mindset, and most of all enjoy your ride!

@@Shaun.Murray thanks bud, appreciate the help !! 👊🏻🎉
So Mexi-Roll you bend your knees?... I don't see much difference. Dope either way it's my go to trick! 👊
Shaun Nelson-
FIRST- Great name. Really great, and you know that us Shauns got to stick together.
SECOND- Standard Backroll is like a cartwheel motion but the opposite way with you body is upright. Mexi-Roll is tucked, (yes) knees bent, and your body does a flip like a front flip off a diving board but while going backward.
...
I mean, help me out here, is this making any sense?
@@Shaun.Murray 💯...Perfect explanation. Next time I'm out I'm gonna throw a few and see if I can feel the difference behind my new to me Nautique 210 I was able to score from your good friend Kane Ward. 👊 Thanks bro, hope to see you at O-Dub again soon!
@@shaunnelson8181 got yerself a nice whip there in that 210 and some good folks you gotter from too! Enjoy your ride ✌️
You need that Nautique GS22E so we can hear you scream and yell with excitement!
I’m still on the fence about how to do a backflip
Sledneck-
Do it, do it, do it, do it!
I mean, seriously take your time, build your fundamentals, then-
Do it, do it, do it, do it!
@@Shaun.Murray thanks !!
@@sledneck_149 well you have come wayyy further than me, im still stuck on the wake to wake....😂
@@svenvolwater5473 haha , it just takes time to get used to jumping
