ATTENTION EVERYONE !!
This song is a trap. It's like a pit. Once you fall , there is no getting out. You listen to this song once and you get addicted, caught in a vicious cycle of replays and reloads and repeats.
Ohh ... and one more thing... it's AWESOME !!
Subhranil Banerjee 😂😂
Lol best comment ever
Too far gone mate...
@@vikaas9590 It's one of the best songs I've ever listened to in my life. And yeah, you are totally right. I'm crazily addicted to it!
@@caiograciano7562 I listened this far more then other porcupine tree. I smiled coz this song has been a trap for me since very long😂
Colin always looks like some guy who woke up one morning and saw the face of god in his coffee cup and has spent the rest of his life floating around in pure zen ever since.
+theakstonsrock Hahaha how true :D
+theakstonsrock Hahahahhahaah> Fuck ! Exactly. So funny!
+theakstonsrock What a great line! :-D
Best description of a happy person I've ever read.

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how good the bassist is here. Seriously, the bassist is everywhere in the song. Mad props
Rhythm section awesome. Gavin Harrison is the best drummer I've ever seen. Saw him with King Crimson. Never seen anyone as good, and I've seen them all in my day!!! Neal who???
Yes. Colin is a maestro.
Love how at 7 to 9 minutes the band is head banging and Colin is cool as a cucumber!
@@davidstellwagen1073 and... he switches from fingers to pick and back to fingers.
@@johnbunalski2414 The only drummer I've ever seen who gave him any real competition is Marco Minneman, also playing with Steven Wilson, who is quite simply amazing in his own right.
And Pat Mastelotto, of King Crimson and Mister Mister fame, is as talented; and it was a real treat when he and Harrison played together.
Great drummers all.
Wow, my 1st time hearing them at 61. I now feel 16🤘🏼
This mean that you will be for ever young.
They're back!!!!
And I’m 69, so power to the old and wise!
Ha ha... 59 and wondering where I was in 2005... would have never found them until my daughter convinced me to try TikTok...
Same! 52 years old here... recently took a trip to Idaho to visit family and my uncle (a musician) asked if I'd ever heard of them. I cannot believe this band is not more popular. Incredible talent here!
The opening to this song is the most beautiful thing I've had the honour of listening to. Porcupine Tree wouldn't be the same without Richard Barbieri, he gives the band an ethereal, out-of-body vibe that is just unmatched.
INVENT
Your absolutely correct ✅
This song has this weird effect, you makes you relive your worst and the most beautiful memories together. A Beautiful juxtaposition.
Hard agree
100% ofc
But
Not just this song.
Almost all SW/PT music is like that.
SW drive home, routine... and most PT.
yes it is a depressing and powerful juggernaut all at once - one of my favorite songs of all time by them but i cant escape a feeling of sadness every time I hear it - but it's like a 'good" sadness if that makes any sense
@@jasonbittner makes too much sense my friend.
Yeah
The closure solo, which is not even in the studio record, is such a masterpiece...
I listened this like 5 years ago, and it's been like 2 years that I don't listen this song and I'm listening now 3 am in the morning in other country, half drunk, 2 years later and I'm fucking impressed
It's very reminiscent of early PT
I absolutely love it! Chasing that guitar tone, really wonderful sound
@@skylineproduccion I right here with you mate 👍 well... kinda... still half drunk listening to this but somewhere else in the world.
take care porcupine tree fan 🍺👍
on the headphones at 3 in the morning .. awesome
RUclips recommended this to me. I shall forever be grateful.
RUclips knows what is good hahaha
check Riverside as well if you didn't
+Majd Almaamoun Yes Riverside seems like a mix of Opeth and Porcupine Tree, it is really really good.
+yatiify Same here, youtube never stops amazing us
+yatiify good guy RUclips :)
Only talented musicians can deliver this type of music. Long live Prog.
Prog is one of the best genres of all time
Very well said
🤘
Prog is the best hands down ❣️
ABSOLUTELY!
Steve Wilson is a genius! The first time I heard this song in a pub, there were no shazams then - 11 years back. The only thing that felt familiar was a bit of Pink Floyd in this song. I refused to pay the bill until the bar found out the song and the band. :D
Would love to be in that bar, listening to this song, sipping my beer 🍻
If only you had shazam
That's badass hahaha
Yeah I thought the same @ the Pink Floyd reference - a tiny smack of "Welcome to the Machine" in this song's colours - but not enough to shout plagiarism. I am dumbfounded that I missed these guys when they were active. Brilliant!!
It's total rehash.... nothing original here...
The bassist looks like he has attained nirvana. I have never seen someone smile in such a satisfied manner for this long.
You so funny ,made me laugh. And spot on
This is one of the best bands I have ever heard, I can't believe I had never heard of them until very recently. Outstanding.
Welcome
They're back!!!
So glad they are back after years. Didn't realize it was 10 or 11 years. Lightbulb Sun and In Absentia are 2 of my favorite CDs. Hope I get to see them live again.
@@YeahResident I just wish that Colin was still a part of the band.
@@kevinlynch2248 I didn't even realize he wasn't with them anymore. Did they get a new bass player?
These guys are like water in the desert. Hard to find music like that today...
Edit 1: nearly 6 years after I posted this and I'm still getting likes and replies. Cheers everyone.
Edit 2: 8 years and counting. I'd also like to add that I'm not really into heavier rock (I'm more into Beatles, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, that kind of rock) but man, I simply love the way this song slowly builds to the climax, exploding at 7:08. I instantly turn into a headbanger every time it reaches that point.
not really
Then show me
Wadsmitter Such a smartass huh. I've google it many times and nothing pleased me as much as this band. By the way, thank you so much for suggesting google, captain obvious, I hope your life is much better now that you helped a poor dumb guy on youtube =]
Wadsmitter Oh don't cry, you made my life better. Now I can use Google =]
Tomas Horn Thanks man, I'll give them a try.
I can't go a day without Porcupine Tree / Steven Wilson. Thumb up if you agree.
In my case I can't go a day without hearing anything from Mr. Gavin Harrison.
What about Blackfield? Shouldn't miss that.
saw him live last week, I can´t believe it took me so long to attend one of his concerts... just hypnotized by PT and Steve music!
Audioholics same here
same here !
Man...John Wesley...what a fit with them. How often does a band come across a great guitarist and great singer? John is amazing.
Agreed, I've been a big fan of his since seeing him opening for Marillion back in the 90s.
John one of best ❤❤🙏🙏.. Love from india
John is amazing and now Randy McStine gets to be the hired gun for the tour that starts tonight in Toronto!!
I've always been a little freaked out (in a good way) because he plays EXACTLY like Wilson. SW plays all the guitar parts on the studio albums, but JW replicates the solos precisely.
@@atoddfan I saw them last Friday, (09/23 in Dallas) and you are spot on. McShine was like a younger Wesley. and the new bassist was a beast as well.
I have to admit to my shame that Porcupine Tree completely passed me by first time around. I grew up with Pink Floyd, Rush, Marillion and These guys are seriously underrated. Absolute class live.
I do not agree that PT are somehow underrated. They are actually massive. Made Gavin Harrison as one of the best drummers. Made SW famous, etc..
Their music is not easist, so you cannot expect too much mainstrem there.
Not underrated at all..
James I get you. I'm gen-X and cut my teeth on the same stuff you did in the late 70s-early 90s (toss in Yes, King Crimson, Gentle Giant...) though I fell out of love with it around the late 90's / early 2000s. I think Ozric Tentacles (Jurassic Shift) may have been the last prog cd I bought in that era. Somehow I stumbled across PT and Steven Wilson maybe 6 years ago and was immediately blown away. Listened to everything I could find, live and studio. It's the classic prog combo of virtuosic musicianship that allows all band members space to jam together, independently, then tighten up, then rock out bombastically yet remain consistent to the context of the pieces, which are more often than not thematically interconnected. Anyways, the best modern prog brings me back to a long time ago, listening to Hemispheres, or Animals, or Selling England By The Pound on headphones in my room while studying in high school. Eerie feeling. Love the PT dual-lead-guitar Thin Lizzy style (sort of?) on this one too. Excuse the ramble :-) Peace.
Everything that ever happened is underrated
Underrated in Imbecileville, Underarockistan.
I find myself returning to this song when I need to be strong and face adversities in life. This song, and specially this version, has saved me so many times before... I keep returning to this video to remind myself that the scissors will never cut a way to my heart. Thank you so much, Porcupine Tree
Same here, bro. Same here!
they are truly something to be revered and respected.
I am here today due to this, cannot fall back..
Same man!
Brilliant song and one of PT's finest. I'm so delighted we, a group of Dutch PT fans, managed to get ASBNH in to this years Top 2000. A end-of-year chart broadcasted on national radio and tv.
PT ifs going to be heard by millions of people!
Fear of A Blank Planet, Deadwing In Absentia, Lightbulb Sun, The Sky Moves Sideways. De solo albums van Wilson Hand Cannot Erase en The Raven That Refused To Sing. Allemaal moderne meesterwerken.
I don't think I've ever heard a live performance that more closely replicated the studio version of a song than this. The tones, and the general mix are just so spot on.
AFAIK, Steven Wilson mixed the sound for the recordings on this gig. :)
both chicago shows i was at the sound was perfect
Try to here deep pruple child in time live and then compare it to the studio version xD
krischin indeed
Saw DreamTheater live last month and they absolutely killed it, like they always do in live shows 😍 You should check them out!
Gavin Harisson is from another planet! That guy is a genius on drums.
I took drumming lessons just to know how difficult it might be for someone and how brilliant it might be to a genuine drummer like Gavin. I quit drumming in 2 weeks.
Is the best! ❤👽
He is the reason I lost hope of becoming a professional drummer
Dario Pegoretti sent me here. I was like, oh, cool. Not normally my jam but these guys sound thoughtful and committed and their fans really love them so I'm gonna give it some time. Then the drum fill at 6:44 blows my dick off. Dude's a metronome with soul.
My favorite Porcupine Tree song. Love how Colin always has this look on his face like, “Yeah, this is the good shit.”
Not sure where I have been, but apparently not listening to Porcupine Tree. My God, what an incredibly talented group of musicians! Glad I found them. Just raw talent.

True story
It’s probably the most hauntingly captivating songs I have ever heard. It draws you in and you feel that there is no escape from its totally hypnotic repeating theme. The musicianship and musical phrasing are so good and when the key changes from melancholic minor half chords to full on major chords you know you have no choice but to listen to the very end of the song and then to repeat it many more times until you almost become part of the story of the song itself. There must be a help group for those who have fallen hopelessly in love with the Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson’s music, but I am not ready to be released from the spell he casts quite yet.
Nope, no cure has been found.
I've been an avowed PT addict since my husband introduced me to their music, when we first started dating, in 2006.
Perfect
amen. well put. I have had this song on repeat for over 15 years. still more to learn from it. "ever had the feeling you've been here before?"
Much love, from India. Porcupine tree 🎶 is amazing melody..
simon debbarma universally loved, good music always transcends
Marc Worthington ya it surely... Does!!
Jajajaja
i bet some stoner introduced you to this!
Vincent Jules u sound like one cos if your not into this music your probably stoned to make snidey comments on it?
Good stuff, makes me feel so wonderful. My pic is from the day my heart exploded and I tore my lower sorta. The pic is a 1/2 hour before they put me and discovered what all was wrong. They put me in a medically induced copy so that I could die in peace. Here I am 3 years later + 3 weeks from a battle for my life that went on for 2 years.
God, thank you for leaving me here, I have so much music to enjoy!
You rock, dude, and you have Someone watching out for you.

Best song on earth, one of the best live performances ever. But 13k views. Thats so weird. I guess the reason is people who listen Porcupine Tree don't use youtube but they download instead.
13k... but haven't one month...
Led Lemos I didn't notice that.
I would like to think they buy the records like i do, cause when you want something done properly, you pay for it.
That way you don't need to rely on useless human beings who can't even upload the standard frequencies rates Non super audio Cd's posses.
1 in 20 videos i listen to are in the actual audio quality.
Which to me says allot about you-tube..
And if you think that fact aint depressing enough, imagine how many Pirated discographies are in shitty quality.
Its just not worth the waste of time really. i earn enough to buy 2 of their cd's an hour (3-4 if its from cd connection) a price i will gladly pay.
Dude i am listening flac quality so i dont suffer shitty qualities. But buying for supporting artist if you have enough budget is totally right thing to do. But i prefer going live shows as much as i can instead of buying hard copies.
AmnesiaHaze "Buying for supporting artist".......Why should we spend money on an album where the artist on get like 10p and the thieving record company's get the rest. Record companys have been stealing from artists for years and yet still nothing has been done!
I think all music should be put out for free if they are going to carry on with the way they do! Just encourage fans to go to live gigs or buy merchandise!
No, seriously, I'm 57 years old, and this is one of the best live performances I have ever seen. Period.

If David Gilmour and Tony Iommi at their peaks ran at each other at light speed, Steven Wilson appears from the glorious ashes.
Haha no way. i am a huge pt fanboy and even i will admit both of those two guitarists are better. their contributions to rock far exceeds the milestones of Steve WIlson. Besides, WIlson is more of a composer than a guitarist.
.....more for comedic purposes, but I am the biggest Gilmour fan this side of the Mississippi, and even I know Steven Wilson technically a better guitarist. When the hell did I EVER say Wilson's contributions to rock even come close to Iommi or Gilmour? There is literally no person on the face of this earth who thinks that...
First of all, technicality was not Gilmours strong suite. he didn't play complex music but god damn it was moving. And your first comment was not very specific so i wasn't very sure what you meant by it, my bad.
Nah for sure, we're arguing apples & oranges at this point. No one can ever be wrong when you're bringing up Steven Wilson & David f'ing Gilmour...! And I agree wholeheartedly to what you said
Right on. Cheers to good music!

I am from Moscow, and d like to say that I grew up listening to the inspiring, great British rock music of the 20th century( mainly progressive and psychodelic rock) . Without it my life would so poor. Some of the most significant days in my life were when i visited Roger Waters’s and Deep Purple concerts , when they were here in Moscow. This music can equally praise up to the sky and destruct us and that’s why it has always been so breathtaking.
Thank you Great Britain for your culture, for your style, for your music and for dreamy, talented boys from your industrial cities , who had been creating some of the most beautiful non material heritage of our world

Nigel Vaillancourt That's what happens when you have a band consisting of all gods \m/. My hubs and I discovered this band last year. We are 53, and all of our fav bands through the ages (too many to list) are repped (and run feckin circles around!!!) in the canon of Porcupine Tree. How the bloody hell did this happen, and why are they not headlining Glastonbury and Coachella?!?!

Never stop the car on a drive in the dark
Never look for the truth in your mother's eyes
Never trust the sound of rain upon a river
Rushing through your ears
Arriving somewhere but not here
Did you imagine the final sound as a gun?
Or the smashing windscreen of a car?
Did you ever imagine the last thing you'd hear as you're fading out was a song?
All my designs, simplified
And all of my plans, compromised
All of my dreams, sacrificed
Ever had the feeling you've been here before?
Drinking down the poison the way you were taught
Every thought from here on in your life begins
And all you knew was wrong?
Did you see the red mist block your path?
Did the scissors cut a way to your heart?
Did you feel the envy for the sons of mothers tearing you apart?
You should be way up higher, had to scroll too far for this!
Depends on the place you are. For me it's the first one on the list.:)))

Don't believe in everything you hear. Or read.
There's a reason why I like PT and SW.And it can only be darkness or despair.:))))
Pretty much the reason why i'm visiting these videos too. You may be in darkness, you maybe in despair, but that's only because you know the how it is different form light and contentment! :) You can only describe the shade "black" if you've seen the shade "white", and no matter what or how you feel inside, the true you is always described by how you present yourself! Atleast that's what i like to believe. :)
As a huge Rush fan, it is just so easy to say that the parallels are uncanny. And it is so iconic that Alex played on one of their most amazing tunes and that all of them admired Porcupine Tree. High praise from one of the greatest prog rock bands ever.

This is literally the first song I have listened to by PT. I feel like I am listening to a Genesis / Yes / Pink Floyd hybrid. I didn’t know anyone was still making music like this anymore. Then in the middle it got edgy and it made me think of Rush ... drums and second guitar sound. Awesome!
They're back!!!!
Genesis, The musical box
Try dream theater in case you don't know
When I listened the song for the first time, I was depressed, but I heared It with my earphones and that day changed my life for good, this song keeps me in peace, Thanks Porcupine Tree for create this masterpiece song
The exactly same thing happened to me. That's the reason I sent this to RUclips!
Thanks for sharing this, we hope help to other people that's suffering in silence
Awesome song I had missed this awesome artist but now I am discovering and digging his stuff 🤘
This live recording is much better than the studio recording. 👌
I respectfully disagree, but this version is good too!
I love them both; but must admit that this performance is my favorite version of the song.
Of course, the concert DVD it came from, "Arriving Somewhere," is also my favorite concert video of all time - including, and partially because of, Wilson's broken guitar string during "Trains."
💞🤣💞🤣💞
Every second of this song is just pure awesome.
If there's ever a song to get one into Porcupine Tree, this is it! Brilliant!
There are some even better ones: _/playlist?list=PLi_qgqLK5QDk7yjFIQMeDfPOT9QLpreLEtr_
Lazarus or Blackest eyes for me :p This is a bit lengthy to listen. Although, now I can listen to any song by PT, listen to Russia on Ice.
Word!!
Started listening to Tool when I was in highschool (16 years ago).. found these guys in 2004ish.. In Absentia was my first album. Fell in love with their music. It's so good. Ended up buying every album lol
Lol
Same, Tool got me into modern prog music and from then on started listening to Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Mastodon ecc.
A less British Genesis comes to mind. Love this❤️❤️❤️🔥
apart from being a brilliant song, the video is really well shot too..the director knows which musician to show at which point..you can see where the music is coming from
tushar koul true
Agreed
Smile, Colin, smile! You are in Porcupine Tree! =D
5:10
Davide Imperiale Mr Colin Edwin. surely the most laid back bass player in the known universe? Smile indeed! 😉
Totally awesome! PT and Steven Wilson MusicalGenius
Just want to see them live once so that I can die peacefully.
One day maybe...
+Amit Taneja Since Porcupine Tree is kinda in standby at the moment, won't happen soon. But yeah, they're awesome.
I saw them Deadwing (this tour). Stood right by Gavin's kit whole time . Killer.
+Amit Taneja So happy that I saw them live more than once...I don't think they're coming back after all Steven said in interviews about PT :(
+Amit Taneja Not PT, but Steven Wilson is coming to India in October this year!!
Well well well... it is about time people caught on to Porcupine Tree... Where were you in 2005? Or 1994 I should say! The most underrated band ever!!! Enjoy the Majesty...😉
Talking about underrated Don, t forget Fair to Midland!!!
First time I’ve actually listened to a porcupine tree song….came here via dream theatre and queensryche
Blown away, Steven Wilson is incredibly talented
First time listener here. Very impressed. Super well done and great high-level production. Unique and it would be hard for me to explain your music to someone else. I'd have to just tell them to listen and experience it. From melodic to contemplative to bone-crushing METAL...and then back again. Well done folks. I'm a 66-year old music lover and appreciator...Blessings...Ed
Is the supermarket playing really good music, or am I just getting old? 54 yo here...loving music since before I could read...had to take the 45's (you know what I'm referring to!) to my aunt so she could tell me which side was the hit!
Just discovered this song today.
Totally blown away, I'm from the Floyd, and TOOL persuasion, but this band kicks ass.
at least you're open to it, most everyone seems to be stuck in the music they heard in high school. I blame the music industry and radio for not opening our ears and minds to new genius, and there are many great newer bands although SW has been around awhile.
this shit keeps you young
Gavin Harrison is just simply one of the best. That is why he plays in King Crimson these days!!
Yup, Robert only works with the creme de la creme
That's where u first saw him, thus past summer with KC. 30 seconds in and a man crush was born. Best drummer I've ever seen/heard!!!
Nice piece. The style reminds me of Pink Floyd of the early seventies
There lies a reason why people are not making any noise or screaming their throat out. This is Bliss what they are witnessing, true euphoria. Steven Wilson is mad.
"Check out Arriving Somewhere But Not Here by Porcupine Tree" she said so I figured I'd play a minute or so and say "Yeah it's ok actually" because I wasn't going to waste my time listening to something so long which was probably ordinary anyway.... And what bloody happens? It ends up being epic! From now on I'm going to listen to her more often! 😂
Could be the Greatest Ever Song. As the years pass it becomes more so.
That bass crescendo from around 8:35 on is just unbelievable.
I really don't care if Porcupine Tree is like another Pink Floyd or not. The fact is that they are awesome. I am a musician, and I do not judge music only by their musical appearance and composition hence I judge by "which music makes me shiver in my spine". So my benchmark is 'shivering in spine'. This is the first song I ever listened of Porcupine Tree and it made my spine shiver. Great job Porcupine Tree. Love you.
Our new classic music. Simply superb!
Man, what a beautiful piece of music.
Ridiculously good, this is next level otherworldly music..
Wow. Never heard of them. 1 listen. 1. I am hooked.
There's no way back for you. Could do the usual "i suggest you listen to this or that by them" but go on the journey yourself. Your faith and love for all that is good in life will be restored to a point you never thought was possible. The years ahead are going to be incredibly rewarding.
9 years after and I still miss you in live....
the riffs and chord progressions at 8:10 omg
I was already lost and it threw me away to some other place!
How I wish to see a concert with my love.
How can they be so perfectly matched with the studio version? I saw a lot of great live renditions from many bands but this one is just surreal.
Do you really believe that a live track stays untouched ? if you still believe in father christmas go hear the fabulous live album of Judas Priest Unleashed in The East :-)
This song is a true Masterpiece!!!
Still one of my favorite songs of all time - and seeing it performed live was ALWAYS a highlight in their concerts.
My husband introduced me to their music when we started dating, in 2006, and I was instantly hooked for life.
Amazing band, and every one was at the very top of their game. Great musicians all.
Richard Barbieri is a master of keyboards and creating soundscapes
Colin Edwin is a fabulous bassist, who has inspired a LOT of other successful bassists
Gavin Harrison is an incredible and inventive drummer, and though I've been a musician and music fan all my life, he's the first drummer who really inspired me to pick up a set of drum sticks and give it a try
And Steven Wilson is quite simply one of the best songwriters, producers, sound mixers and performers out there; and even though he downplays his own talent in lead vocals and guitar, he's one of my favorites at both.
John Wesley, the second guitarist (dark curly hair), is not a formal member of the band, but joined them on tours for years; because on their albums, Wilson played multiple guitars, and sang multiple tracks, which he obviously couldn't do live onstage.
If you ever get a chance to see them live - GO!!! You can thank me later. 💞🤣🌎🤣💞
I can truly lose myself in this song.12 minutes away from this planet, arriving somewhere but not here. Amazing how music can lift you to another dimension. We are all but a vibration resonating through this universe.
