The lead guitarist is Roger Fisher, whose brother Mike is the "Magic Man" that Ann is singing about. Also, the talented Wilson sisters get most of the credit, which they should, but the men in the original lineup were also factors in the band's success. Super talented group.
To be fair this band has always had top shelf musicians in it, even during the 80's when not very many 70's bands were able to adapt well to the stylistic changes. Foreigner was one and Heart was definitely another
"Dog and Butterfly" is another example of the softer side of Heart. They loved the folkier side of Zeppelin as much as they did the powerful side, and Heart could do both, sometimes in the same song.
I saw these ladies 47 years ago. It was my first actual concert in an arena, a small 2,500 seat one, the others being in bars. Great show. Crazy on You from the same time frame, '77 - '78, there's a great live video with Nancy's longer acoustic intro that's epic.
Fun fact, I lived across the street from Ann in 1979-80 in Kirkland, Wa. I was in love with Nancy back then. Dog and Butterfly like others have said, Ann’s voice is actually velvet in that one.
I'm a little younger than you but grew up in Marin county knowing Mickey Hart's nieces, hanging out at Deen Castronovo's house via being friends with his stepdaughter, running into Santana, guys from Metallica, going into Phil lesch's restaurant often enough later on that he and his wife would usually stop by to talk to me. Used to hear Metallica rehearsing the Black album across from my childhood soccer field during practice. I never fully appreciated how special these things were until I was a bit older
Thank you, Stacey, for noticing how great the entire band was. Heart was far more than just the Wilson sisters. Drums, bass, two lead guitarists (one who doubled on keyboards), Ann on vocals and Nancy on acoustic guitar - including intros. This is the Heart that I grew up with. Yes, the sisters had bigger hits during the 80s, but the original band created better music, as far as I'm concerned. I first saw them about 1975, way back when they were hired to play one of our high school dances. As a young musician, I was mesmerised by them all. Their music was a mix of Rock with R&B and strong dose of Folk, all heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin. At that time, they lived in my native Vancouver, Canada, and I caught their shows as many times as I could - roller skating rinks, free shows in the city parks, even the clubs I could fake my way into (I had a full beard at 12). I saw them so many times the band began to recognise me. We were never friends nor hung out together but they knew me enough to smile and wave. The last time I saw them was August 1978, when they were the last band at a day long outdoor stadium show. It had been a blistering hot day but the sunset and the breeze off the Pacific brought a cooling relief to us. Behind the stage, across the inlet, the lights from the mountain ski runs lit a peaceful backdrop. My friend and I had been 6th or 7th row all day and we'd just been treated to the sublime harmonies of Little River Band, when it was Heart's turn. They came on stage and it felt like they had finally arrived at the big time to me. Nancy saw me first, smiled and waved, then pointed me out to Ann. Then they played and it was incredible. The light wind, the warm night air, and the music I loved. They played their hits, local and national, a few songs that were their own favourites, and gifted us with songs from their soon to be released new album, Dog And Butterfly. It will be 44 years this coming Summer and these memories are forever burned into my mind. What an incredible band the original Heart was. ♥
Thank you for this comment. Ann and Nancy rightly deserve tons of credit, but the original male band members were tremendously important. Too many reactors and others don't seem to realize that.
I first heard Heart for the first time in 1974 and the more I hear them the more I love and respect them, and the vintage members who were Rock Solid. 🎶✌️👉🇨🇦🤟🎶
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎩🎩 ... wooooo -- hoooooo !! Yes , indeed - I knew this would Rock your world. I personally think Ann has the best female Rock voice of all time. Of course .. she can soften it up and melt me like butter .. you will get requests for her softer side. I never tire of this song ... or any Heart song. Nancy also crushes the guitar on every song .. I saw them live recently and the raised the roof .. they were hot .. the crowd went nuts .. and we all sang every song. Keep these Heart songs coming Stacey . Luvvvvvvvvvv to see you smile at Heart wailing singing .. and echoing guitars !! This is a great reaction. 🎩🎩🔥🔥🔥
Yeah, being a musician, songwriter and vocalist myself, this is one of the bands that I liked listening to and learning how to play their songs as a kid. Ann is a great vocalist with great range and Nancy is a very good vocalist as well. I always did like all the rest of the musicians too; however, they did get overshadowed by the two sisters. The other musicians, I always thought were underrated and overlooked. 1st lead guitar player Roger Fisher, 2nd lead guitar player and keyboardist Howard Lesse. And you were talking about the bass playing Steve Fosson and the drumming Michael Derosier which all of them were very good at their jobs but overlooked. I wasn't much into their songs they did in the mid 80's. They had quite a few hits, however, I still like their older stuff when they rocked out more. This was the reason that the last of the 3 older members had left the band which were Howard Lesse, Steve Fosson and Michael Derosier. They wanted to keep doing the more upbeat rocking type music and the sisters wanted to go in a different direction. I think you did a very good reaction to the song. And you're super pretty as well. Great job! Stacey!
I saw them on New Years Eve 1977 into 1978 at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. What a show. I took my girlfriend and her friend at the time. We saw a spectacular show with Heart at their peak in the late 70s.
Ann and Nancy Wilson are a couple years older than me grew up close to Seattle so I saw them in concert many times Ann singing along with the guitars was insane. In my era Every guy wanted to be with them and every girl wanted to be them they were icons and trailblazers in the 70s and 80s. Great reaction thank you more Heart is always good.
Hands down! Ann Wilson is the GOAT of rock n roll female singers and ranks up high among male rock singers in my book. The bass guitar gives a song it’s bottom sound, it rounds out the song. The best example would be smoke on the water by deep purple.
I grew up listening to Heart. They were one of my mom’s favorite bands. She loved their song “Dog and Butterfly”. I can’t even listen to that song without crying now. These songs are a time and a place for me.
Aways loved Heart. Didnt get to see them until the fancy clothes and poofy hair phase in the 80's. Saw that tour twice. 1st time in San Diego with Mister Mister opening and then later at home in Baltimore with Honeymoon Suite opening. Love your reactions, Stacey. Glad to be along on your journey!
They are among my top five favorite female rockers. They have so many great songs. The 1970s had the best music. I saw them only once, on October 15, 1978, at the Capital Center in Landover, Maryland.
"Love Alive" is another softer singing Ann. I remember back in the '70's my older brother was able to play that song on his guitar since he can play by ear.
I saw several of their performances during the tours supporting there first two albums Dreamboat Annie and Little Queen. Great shows with the added benefit of Climax Blues Band opening for them on the Little Queen tour. Champagne and Rock and Roll Is What I’m Living On.
First introduction to heart for me was them being the opening band for a Canadian group called April Wine back in the mid 70's. I've been a huge fan of theirs ever since
Agreed. Anne Wilson is, hands down, one of the best vocalists of all time. How amazing is it that her sister Nancy just happens to be one of the best rock guitarists too? Had major crushes on both of them as a kid. Still kind of do.
Great choice for a reaction, one of Heart's best songs. This was Heart at its best, because this was the original line up of members. You're correct- there is a bass in this song being played by Steve Fossen. The guitar solos were played Roger Fisher and Howard Leese, who also played the keyboards. Nancy Wilson also sings lead vocals on quite a few songs and she also has a very good voice. If you want to hear Nancy sing lead, check out "These Dreams", "Will You Be There In The Morning" , and "Love Mistake." Please continue your Heart journey, you will not be disappointed.
Love, love, love your reactions to Heart! If you really want to rock, check out the Heart song, "Kick It Out"! Heart is touring around the U.S.A. right now. You should check them out live in concert and do a live VLOG of you at their show!
A beautiful lady and fantastic reaction ❤ HEART is incredible and unique. Thier catalog is amazing. LED ZEPPELIN: HEY HEY, WHAT CAN I DO? , when you get a chance 🔥 You’re awesome 😎 Keep it up 👍
OG Shield Maidens of Rock..."Dog And The Butterfly," the third LP that I ever bought for myself...right behind KISS' "Destroyer," and Robin Trower "Live" back in '77...I was twelve years old lol.
Straight On is a great catchy song and Dreamboat Annie is a soft beautiful song. I've been a Heart Fan forever and seen them live more times than I can count.
I'm in my 60s, my top ten female vocalists of the rock era, in no particular order Janis Joplin Diana Ross Stevie nicks Ann Wilson Pat benatar Chrissy Hines Carly Simon Barbra Streisand Karen Carpenter Donna Summer All different genres, All fantastic vocalists. Plus many more!!!!! Lol 😊
I'm sure you're already aware of this Stacey, but someone is spamming your comment sections pretending to be you. The price of a successful channel, I suppose.
You must must must must hear the full length studio version, this was very cool but...the studio version will be forever ICONIC! It will move you even more!
When Ann sings "Let's get high awhile," brings me back to that hot Summer day in Seattle in 1983, hanging out in the bands manager house with his girlfriend and getting baked on amazing weed that Ann and Stevie Nicks toked on together earlier that week. Never got to meet Ann or Stevie, but they were friends. And they had the best weed, LOL!
There's a modern all-female rock band called "Plush" who attempt to emulate Heart by playing Heart covers and similar rock tunes. They of course are not Heart, but its nice to see modern young musicians wanting to keep the Heart and 70's rock vibe going. Other modern rock bands like "The Warning" from Mexico, and "Maneskin" from Italy are another recent example of young people keeping the rock flame burning.
Not to worry about the break. The music came to a total stop for a moment, so in my ears the one solo stopped and another started. So nice to see you reacting to Heart, such a great band, even in it’s many incarnations but with the Wilson sisters throughout.
Great reaction, thanks Stacey. You've done a reaction to "Alone" (studio/m-vid) but would recommend revisiting this in a live performance - specifically Live in Seattle 2002. It's stripped right back with Nancy's backing vocals & acoustic guitar the only support for Anne's voice. Pure brilliance 👌 Anne is also front and center where she should be, not hidden away in the shadows like the label did to her for the original music video.
Before you are finished with your journey through the Heart catalogue, you must react to their amazing cover of their cover of Led Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore"! You will see a side of both Ann and Nancy that you rarely find on any of their other songs! And speaking of your one day trip on a time machine, I remember when I saw them do an awesome show back in the day, and I met a girl who looked a lot like you, claiming she had come back from the year 2026 to see Heart! I was astounded to hear this. Or maybe I was just high.
A band not alot of people have ever heard but get addicted when they do hear it is THE MIDNIGHT. Best song to start with would be SHADOWS by THE MIDNIGHT. Your mind will be blown and the nostalgia trip will begin.
So cool to see your generation explore music from previous generations. I'm so glad I grew up when I did, and that I was exposed to previous decades of music on the radio. There's a reason that older folks say they're sad for your generation with the music you're subjected to these days, if you can even call it music. They certainly don't make music like they used to before auto tune.
Heart recorded a cover of the Harry Nilsson song "Without You" on their Magazine album. If you want a GREAT example of the power of Ann Wilson's voice, give that track a listen. In fact, for another really great track off that album, I'd recommend the title song "Magazine". I'd also like to recommend listening to the studio versions of Heart's music. While the live versions are all pretty good, the acoustics of a live performance are so much harder to control than a studio environment. To truly appreciate the music the way it was intended, you can't beat the studio (in most cases). Give the studio versions of any of the songs by Heart, Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin songs that you've already reacted to a try and you'll see what I mean. Like Pink Floyd's studio version of "The Great Gig in the Sky", that you reacted to. You listened to the studio version first and, as you said, "it took your breath away". One of the studio versions from Pink Floyd that I think is a MUST, is "Comfortably Numb". No disrespect to the live performance but the studio version blows the live version out of the water. NOTE: To be fair, there are some live versions that I think are better than the studio versions. These include the Peter Frampton Comes Alive (Do You Feel Like We Do) and Kiss Alive (pretty much any of the tracks). There are a few others but those two stand out as great "live" albums.
One of the best bands of the 70s and 80s. I think I have every album they ever put out. Check out "Never", "These Dreams" and "What about Love." Ann's sister Nancy also has a good voice too. She sings the lead on "These Dreams." They formed in 1973 in Seattle, Washington.
Ann Wilson is special, and she is among the great female vocalists. I'll throw a couple of other names (and songs) out there to check out: Joni Mitchell ("Help Me," "Circle Game," and "Coyote"), Carpenters ("We've Only Just Begun," "Superstar," and "Hurting Each Other"), and just about anything by Dionne Warwick! Thank you for the great reaction style: Peace!
You want to see a beautiful song featuring both Ann and Nancy in stripped down acoustic mode, you MUST watch Dog and Butterfly from the Live in Seattle performance. It’s an amazing song and shows them both aging with grace but not losing any talent. Also These Dreams (same album as Alone) live from the same Seattle performance is all Nancy. Please consider these. I’m a 70’s kid who grew up listening to them and am happy to see younger folks discovering their genius
You should listen to many hardcore Heart fans favorite song from the Dog and Butterfly Album called Mistral Wind . It is a song only Heart could pull off . Musically , it centers on Nancy's acoustic guitar , which provides the instrumentation for the first couple minutes as her sister tells a story in a subtle , intimate vocal . But then when the full band comes in , Ann lets loose as the storm rages and she finds her strength . Nancy has quoted Mistral Wind as the best Heart song , and when you listen , you will understand why !!!
Great reaction Stacey!! Ann's power is immense! The whole band is on fire here. If you really want to hear how amazing her voice is (and how wonderful a guitarist her sister Nancy is), check out the 2-part song: Sylvan Song/Dream Of The Archer. Ann's voice is off the charts!! Soul Of The Sea, White Lightning & Wine, How Deep It Goes - all tracks off the first album that also must be heard! Cheers.
The entire Dreamboat Annie album is like this. No duds in sight. Another really good duet is Barbara Striesand / Donna Summer the song called Enough is Enough ( No More Tears)
Caught you for the first time on the full set of Heart songs. Enjoyed all of them. No question Heart and Ann Wilson were going to be amazing, but so were you. Don’t worry about musical training, you’re engaging and authentic. Great stuff! If you’re looking for another artist from the period with vocal purity and power you should definitely check out Linda Ronstadt.
if you want to hear Nancy take lead vocals, check out These Dreams - there is actually a live one (live in Seattle) from not too long ago when they are older. Amazing
That is the prime original era of Heart when they were destined to make it big and it did not take much time .... "Kick It Out" [Love Me Like Music] I'll Be Your Song Dog and Butterfly original versions are highly recommended
One of the other powerhouses in rock and roll of that day was Stevie Nicks, of Fleetwood Mac. A different kind of rock and roll but still rock and roll
Good to see you rocking out to the Wilson sisters again! Looks like you enjoyed yourself chair-dancing. I know you like Ann’s softer side, but if you want to hear her absolutely let it fly, check out “Black On Black”. Not as well-known as some of their other songs, but a straight-up rocker. Good work-out music, very driving. Also, you make an excellent point about classic live cuts not using Auto-Tune. That’s not true anymore, of course, live performances started also using Auto-Tune many years ago, too. The technology came into use in studios around the turn of the century. So these live classic rock performances from the 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s are all the real deal. But keep in mind, those were the years when bands and artists were *expected* to be able to write, play, and sing their own music. Sadly, artists don’t have to be able to do any of that any more, due in part to Auto-Tune. Always a joy to share your reactions. Don’t forget, Two Steps From Hell, gotta give ‘em a listen. Take care!
Ann Wilson is one of the greatest rock singers of all time. 1970s Heart was an absolute force to be reckoned with.
The lead guitarist is Roger Fisher, whose brother Mike is the "Magic Man" that Ann is singing about.
Also, the talented Wilson sisters get most of the credit, which they should, but the men in the original lineup were also factors in the band's success. Super talented group.
He never got credit, but he was definitely an original lead player. Odd combination of notes between his scales and harmonics.
Singing about the guitarist, didn’t know, thanks
To be fair this band has always had top shelf musicians in it, even during the 80's when not very many 70's bands were able to adapt well to the stylistic changes. Foreigner was one and Heart was definitely another

Crazy on You from the same time frame, '77 - '78, there's a great live video with Nancy's longer acoustic intro that's epic.
For my money, Crazy On You is Heart's magnum opus.
Fun fact, I lived across the street from Ann in 1979-80 in Kirkland, Wa. I was in love with Nancy back then. Dog and Butterfly like others have said, Ann’s voice is actually velvet in that one.

Nada One from the same album. 😉

A true classic when music was raw and from the heart love it immensely thankyou 👍👍👍👍👍
I saw Heart in Montreal back in the day. It was an amazing concert. What crazy vocals. They were a huge favourite in Canada
This is one of their best songs and this is what music is supposed to sound like. I like this but like the studio version best
Roger Fisher's guitar style is like nobody else.
I agree, he doesn't get talked about nearly enough but neither does Nancy for her guitar work
“Dog and Butterfly”
You will not be disappointed .❤❤❤
I was lucky enough to see Heart in the 90s in Toronto with Cheap Trick. Ann and Nancy kicked Ass❤😂
Dog and Butterfly

A classic track by an outstanding, Hall of Fame band.
Good reaction. My favorite Heart song. One of my all time favorite bands. Had this song on old vinyl single in the 70‘s. Thanks for this reaction.
Great choice for a reaction, one of Heart's best songs. This was Heart at its best, because this was the original line up of members. You're correct- there is a bass in this song being played by Steve Fossen. The guitar solos were played Roger Fisher and Howard Leese, who also played the keyboards.

You young lady are going to be on a Journey of the best music ever 1970's you wanna hear Hearts softer side "Dream Boat Anne" released in 1977 🎸😊
The song is called “Dream Boat Annie” and it was released in 1975. Same album that this song is on lol
She pauses and talks way too much...I mean 15 mins. to get through the song...waste of time😢😢😮
@@SoloTravelerOffTheBeatenPathturns out we are both wrong it was released in 1976!
@michaelasay8587 This is not a music video, it's a reaction video. If the reaction doesn't interest you, there are other things to watch on RUclips.

Love, love, love your reactions to Heart! If you really want to rock, check out the Heart song, "Kick It Out"! Heart is touring around the U.S.A. right now. You should check them out live in concert and do a live VLOG of you at their show!

Loved your reaction, Stacey! I saw Heart in the mid-70s at an outdoor Labor Day concert. Amazing group.
You need to check out Nancy Wilson singing “These Dreams” live with Ann
You live in Texas? Heart is playing at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, TX on May 1st, 2024.
A fun upbeat song from them that never seems to get reacted to is “Kick It Out”. 🇺🇸🇨🇱🤘🏻😎
Love your energy. Great reaction ❤
If you love Ann's soft side, you will really love "Dog and Butterfly"!
You need to listen to "These Dreams" with Nancy Wilson taking the lead vocal spot. They are both amazing.
ditto
Heart is touring this year.
Great reaction Stacey. I just don't know why don't show more of Nancy. Besides being a great guitarist she can sing also. Love Heart.
A beautiful lady and fantastic reaction ❤

I watched Hozier live. He was incredible. I love his lyrics.
Not to worry about the break. The music came to a total stop for a moment, so in my ears the one solo stopped and another started.
So nice to see you reacting to Heart, such a great band, even in it’s many incarnations but with the Wilson sisters throughout.
Absolutely love this song. As it’s the fist of theirs I heard, definitely remember as experiencing what she can do as a kid growing up on classic rock
Totally agree. Great reaction and commentary.
I SAW THEM AT CAL JAM II IN 78 LOL I LOVED IT!!!!!I WAS 15 LOL!!!!JUST WAIT LOL!!!!!THERE ARE 3 GUITARS !!!!! ACTUALLY 4 !!!!!
Another strong female rock singer is Debbie Harry of Blondie. They have many great songs from this era. 'Dreaming' is my favorite.
Pure brilliance 👌
Anne is also front and center where she should be, not hidden away in the shadows like the label did to her for the original music video.
Hi Stacey, you might as well watch some of Heart’s later live performances.
You love her personality, and we love your personality.
🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻🔥 Love this one. Dog And Butterfly next 👌🏻👌🏻
Ann was crazy on him. Magic Mike.
A band not alot of people have ever heard but get addicted when they do hear it is THE MIDNIGHT. Best song to start with would be SHADOWS by THE MIDNIGHT. Your mind will be blown and the nostalgia trip will begin.
Her voice is powerful, yet it can be so soft.... Maybe the best female rock voice ever, top 3 at least....
I used to rock the rollerskating rinks to this song in my prime🤙🎸
Every teenage boy in the 1970's was in love with Anne's voice. I was one of them.
These Dreams with Nancy on lead vocal is beautiful. Stranded is another great one Nancy sings.
Thx Stacey! Great song. I was sooooo in love with Ann in those days.
I’m a 70’s kid who grew up listening to them
and am happy to see younger folks discovering their genius
Ah! My favorite Heart tune.
A different kind of rock and roll but still rock and roll
keep going on heart more to love to come ❤
A great example of harmony between the sisters is “Will you be there”
Awesome you gotta hear the studio version with the bongos and the organs in the background makes it more fantastic love it!!!!
Nancy is a fantastic singer, too. She sings lead on "These Dreams" if you want to check it out.
Ann is awesome, and you rock Stacey.
Take care!
These Dreams with Nancy in lead vocals would be great as the next Heart reaction. 💕
Truly Ann and Nancy WIlson are legendary women in rock. They are easily considered rock royalty.
Stacey You are the best 🎸👍👍👍😍!!!! long live music !!!! Hello cats !!!!
70s music is some of best music ever written.
Saw them during this tour at the oc fair so awesome
Give Heart's Even it Up a listen!
