I got my 86 after making some calls! Don’t give up it’s all about timing. Get in good with a dealer just before they put the orders in. Amazing car worth every penny. It also has amazing potential for mods in the coming years.

Got my 23 premium with 800 miles, 6 speed black. I lowered it and added an AWE catback. Tuning it next week. Turbo in the near future. This car is a prince among peasants.
I tried to put an order in for a red limited brz with a 6 speed back in October and they’re still not taking new orders. I was estimated to have one in about 6 months. My dealership just happens to have a black one coming in May with the same spec I wanted minus the color. So they reserved it for me. It’s not the color I wanted but I’m just happy to be getting one. I wish the process was easier. I didn’t wanna wait until the fall of this year to get one.
Toyota or any company should offer free classes on how to drive a manual transmission. Get high school and college kids into the manuals and it will pull them into the brand and make them want to buy one. So much more fun driving a manual than auto
I think the problem is practicing after learning how to drive, learning is easy, anybody can learn how to drive stick in one or two hours, there is not much to learn.
The "Torque Dip" problem of the prior FR-S, BRZ, GT86 was not that "you run out of power", but that drivers weren't expecting to have to down shift more than one gear. If you were in fourth gear at 3000 rpm and wanted to accelerate, you might expect to drop into third and have more torque. WRONG ANSWER! If you did that you would find your engine speed just coming off the bottom of the torque dip and accelerating dismally. But if you drop to second, you would be at 5000 rpm with plenty of torque. If you were feeling REALLY aggressive, you could even drop to first and run from 6000 up to redline before upshifting. The FA-20 engine REQUIRES that the driver PAY ATTENTION to engine speed, i.e.: be engaged. The real problem with FA-20 is found when pulling away from a stop. Torque dies immediately after pulling away and if you suddenly need to avoid oncoming traffic, there's nothing you can do except start praying. The very first mod anyone should do to a first gen GT86 variant is purchase an Open Flash Tablet and eliminate the torque dip.
The 10th anniversary would've been in that sweet ballpark amount for what u was willing to spend on a new fun to daily, but affordable to maintain sportscar, but my 11th Gen Si just came out untop with offering a lot more practical space and features to fully have it as a single car for all duties in the home. Notwithstanding, I'd still look for an opportunity to drive the GR86 and see all its RWD prowess offers compared to the notchy and smooth shifting of my Si
I want one but theres no dealerships in Knoxville or surrounding cities that are willing to sell it to me for MSRP or even a little close to it. They’re trying to charge me $39-40,000 because “it’s a new 2023 model.” Good luck to them lol. I dont know who would spend $40k on an 86 when there are other cheaper and better options. the front of the toyota reminds me of cars from the 80's, the gr 86 has a similar bumper to a regular corolla and the gr designation should be reserved for one of the models and not every toyota has a gr - weak :( subaru br is one unique :) 2 Subaru Brown is faster and lighter in tests conducted by professional Japanese drifters subaru has aluminum roof and knuckles bigger rivets which makes the car stiffer sound equipment is also different toyota has outdated
Call EVERYONE and ask if they're getting any allocations that you can put a deposit on. That's what I did and scored one within a day, I should have my steel premium manual at MSRP within a few weeks!
Fantastic looking ride but when these dealers put these black wheels on a classy looking car, it really does take away from them and makes them look cheap. Regular non painted alloy wheels just have a better appearance. I was a self-employed wholesale car dealer for over 25 years and I do have insight on what works when it comes to laying out a good ride making sure it has a great appearance. Those prices aren't too out of line either, are they ? Boooom !
There is no “RTV problem”. Having “too much RTV” does not mean anything. The high-G lateral load on a Boxer engine was the culprit of a few new owners blowing their engines on a track day. Subaru has been applying the same amount of RTV paste on 86/BRZ’s way before the GR86 was around…
@moldyrefrigerator I'm asking because my 22 BRZ has RTV in the pick up tube and I have found some on the dipstick. I have pictures foe this and a few friends that are seeing the same thing. The question is, how is this exessive amount of RTV going to affect the boxer engine in the long run? I do think this a problem and many on the forums and reddit agree with the statement "RTV problem".
Doesn't need them. The twins are designed to teach newbies within a budget. Besides, where exactly are you gonna enjoy most of them on a street? Not every city and town have a track or Autobahn.

I've got a 2014 GT86 and 1st to 2nd has always been "notchy" until warmed up - there are some fixes out there but enjoy!!
