This was his choice: Genius: Nepomniachtchi Entertaining: Carlsen Finesse: Giri Annoying: Nakamura Then he later on explained that he chose Nakamura as the "Annoying" one because he is always finding defensive resources in every position, and it becomes very 'annoying' to attack against Nakamura for his resilience.
I Dont see why, he had a very bad year leading up to the tournament. I thought it was going to be MVL or Nepomniatchi but Anish Really surprised me by playing some damn good chess.
@@deridivisstar1030 he didnt participate in a lot of tournaments. But of course outcome didn't favor him this year.
I explored the position at 8:44 with my board at home. I found a line I think the people here will appreciate. Starts with a fun, crazy sac 1. Nxe5! Sacrificing the queen. Black takes with ... Bxe2 Then the royal fork! 2. Nf7+! Kg8 3. Nxd8 Rxc2 Now the last explosive move of the combination: Ne7+, threatening a smothered knight pair mate. Black is forced to part with the dark squared bishop, and after 6. dxe7, his rook looks very sad trapped behind that pawn on the dark square. This position is sharp but drawish, however I just want to appreciate this combination. Sacrificing a knight and opening up a skewer on the queen and rook, then forking the king and queen, then the smothered mate threat, and ultimately the extremely cramped rook at the end of the line. Caissa showed me this path and I wanted to share it
13:30 "and of course the knight cannot capture because Queen captures Queen" Yea and don't forget the checkmate on g7, because the bishop now covers it
At 13:30 « the knight of course can’t capture because Queen captures queen », that’s not the best way to finish the game ahah, since after Nxd5, the dark squared Bishop’s diagonal is open, and he controls g7, so that Qxg7 would be checkmate 🤩
13:14 - Bishop takes knight, pawn takes rook, c7 knight to e8 forcing either rook to take, in which case queen takes, or black plays pawn h6, in which case queen takes knight with check. King moves to h7, Knight takes on f6 for check, queen takes rook. Definitely winning
i don't know why but there is something extremely appealing about having two rooks on the d and e files. it's like there're meant to be there, together.
As the Man said, an Amazing Game. How Carlsen managed Not to win; extraordinary, (but kudos to Hikaro for avoiding defeat.) And kudos to Agadmator for expertly leading us through this extremely complicated game.
12:16 "so you have to go for this queen trade" - No, you don't. Black has just moved Qf5-g6 but white can go Rc8 x Rg8 check, so Black's only reply is Ktf6 x Rg8 and White makes the move Qf7 x Ktd7 because black's knight is left with no defender. The resulting material balance is that White has Q R B Kt and Black has Q B Kt, so White is a whole rook up!
I have yet to win a game with the evans gambit. I need to watch Agad's video on it again because it always makes for an interesting game but I don't understand all the theory just yet.
12:35 is knight g4 for hikaru a good move? Looks like it wins back the rook? And double attack on rook and bishop? Looks like a winning move but I am not very good at chess so Someone good at chess reply please.
I noticed this move too. It shouldn't be winning imo. Magnus will have to capture on g4 as the only move. Then if Hikaru captures the Rook with Qd3, Magnus will capture pawn with Be5 and threatens checkmate. Hikaru then will have to bring his Queen back to g6 to force a queen trade, then after Qg6, Ng6 trade, Magnus will be up 1 pawn and still have the passed d6 pawn. All in all I think Hikaru was losing at this position but at least he could've given his king some room to breathe but my calculation could be wrong Idk.
at 13:30, can the knight also not capture because of Checkmate on G7? Queen and Bishop both attack the square. Wanted to see if I was missing something
Thought the same. Engine didn’t like it though because of QC7. Now if you move the knight the bishop is hanging. If the rook takes it then attacks the queen. Just a little trickier to play but you’re still up an exchange and winning
06:00 Does it have to be that way tho ? I mean why can't black play Bxc3 with an attack on the Queen after Qxc3 Black simply moves the rook and all is well I mean you said it many times I thought that would be the only line possible

5:12 why not Bxe4, followed by Bxe4 and Nc5? That knight on the edge is terribly placed and this should be the best way to activate it. Sure I think white would still be better but it woulda helped yo
