He's as real it gets, he just didn't believe in the monastic life, too much politics, so he left and claim he not a monk or from any temple so as not to bother them or to use their temple name to gain anything.. but he actually stay in a temple for awhile.. he doesn't accept money to detach from greed, he only eats a meal to detach from indulgence and to keep the guts healthy, he sleeps sitting to detach from sleeping excessively..
