going back to work after absent for so long, thanks it pretty much seems common sense, I was a clinic supervisor, handled everything in the clinical area but it's been 15yrs and so many things have changed product and procedure wise, thanks again
I'm an Expanded Functions Dental Assistants and it's been 5 years since my last dental job. I've been working with my husband doing marketing and admin duties for him. I want to go back to dental but it seems the gap is ruining my chances. How do I overcome this in an interview?
I've been assisting for over 7 years and I absolutely do not agree with making it a norm for offices to "skip lunch" just because "it's busy" (depending on your hours) for example if you're working a full 8-10 hour day with no lunch just snacking inbetween patients that is ridiculous. That sounds like poor scheduling and lack of respect. Those are the type of offices that will 100% burn you out. That is illegal and somehow extremely commonplace in the Dental Field and something I do not personally put up with but that many people have to work in those conditions due to necessity. Dental is nothing like working in the Medical field, we work in private and corporate offices not in severe life threatening situations (AND I'VE WORKED MAINLY IN OS) nor do we get paid to be worked into the ground. She is very mistaken about this.
Anabel Chun I absolutely agree with your comment. I am a recent dental assistant graduate who has a medical assistant background and there is a huge difference between both professions. The medical field has changed drastically since twenty years ago and not for the better.
@@annefrost184 I feel you! Listening to office managers like her really upsets me. There are so many offices that have the idea that somehow an assistant coming in to "make a living" is unacceptable. You have to live, eat and breathe the practice without actually you know eating LOL I'm going back to school to be a dentist and I'm glad I've gone through my experiences because I'll know how to treat my employees and the kind of employees that are going to nurture a practice. aka not slave drive people.
I have been a DA for 2 years for the same buiss, and consider my self a pro, off course not like a manager but if I was a Dr ill be pleased to have me. BUT, MY last office was very (low founded) and had me at a very low pay rate. So, after trying working interviews i noticed its hard to show what you got when you nearly know the Drs style and where there dental instruments are. I always end up looking like i just graduated. How do you prevent looking like that in front of a Doctor? How do you succed in your working interview?
Jeniffer Ramirez I've been assisting for 6 years, let me tell you it doesn't matter how long you've been assisting when you go to a new office, everything will be different. The des working style, his way of wanting things, you try your best and just try to ask as many questions about how he wants his set ups, instruments etc. don't worry, I also know from experience that drs. Will try to give a new assistant a hard time in the beginning, why? Idk they just do. YOU just ask a lot of questions and try your best :)
how much do front desk assistants usually make straight out of the gate without any experience? is it minimum wage or mid-teens? I just did a phone interview and the person would not even give me a range at all. I know experience matters; but, it is scary applying blindly without asking about pay.
fabulous life It should be above minimum wage for sure, depending on your experience and the area you live! I live in a southern state that has a relatively love cost of living and front office assistants make around $12-14 on average brand new. Good luck on your journey!
Congratulations, Lisa!!!
Kevin, as a male dental assistant in training I'd love to learn more from other male DAs in the field.

I could not find much information on the company because it is newer and does not have much online presence. It is a small private practice.
