Solo Motorcycle Camping in Snowdonia Part 2

- Опубликовано: 20 июн 2021
- Jumping on the Triumph Bonneville T120 early from my campsite on the west coast of Wales, I headed inland towards the foot of Mount Snowdon and spent the day riding around all the glorious roads that weave around the high places of the Snowdonia National Park. Finally ending up at Beddgelert Campsite for my second night camping, before heading home the next morning.
It was a great two days riding around north Wales and I can't wait to do it again.

@ClassicRides thanks for taking the time to reply.Looking forward to watching more.👍👍👍
my admiration and respect for classic ride for its videos and fantastic motorcycle, delighted to have discovered it
Really glad you’re enjoying the videos so much Julian 😊
We love the Videos and were wondering how he gets away with the Black and Silver Number plate. We had one on our Triumph T100 and Sidecar until we met PC Williamson who fined us and stated. " If i see that Plate again i will have your Bike destroyed" We met this PC at our local Garage and my Partner had a little Chat.
"Hello P C Wiliamson you'll be pleased to know that we now have a Shiny Yellow Plate on our Bike" Pc Williamson was sitting in his Unmarked Car and stuffing a Lion Bar into his slobbering Chops at the time but did say. " Very Good ! Job done then".
What my Partner didn't say was that along the bottom of the Plate it reads,................Mr Williamson is a Fat Fairy !
All is not Lost. We use the Plate when we go abroad.
Wonderful. Very nice cinematography. I could almost cry at the moments of blissful peace you find on your journeys. Wonderful.
Glad you liked it David 😊
Part 2 as awesome as part 1, real happy I found your channel and all these magical videos representing what is truly motorcycle riding and its total freedom, well done and thank you for sharing all these!! 👍👍

Thanks SuperManKev 🦸♂️
That's a good ride in nature green and a good camping! 楽しそうだ。
Thanks Atsuki!
I recognised a couple of villages you travelled through Beddgellert being one of them! A great job of showcasing North Wales and I hope you enjoyed your stay.
Thanks Mark, I’ve been coming to North Wales for years, but only recently on a bike, it’s like a different world on two wheels!
@@ClassicRides I'm just about to go out on the T120, maybe up to the Pondarosa not sure yet!
Thanks for sharing
Welcomes 😊
Absolutely beautiful 😍
Thank you Edward! 😊
I' like it very much👍

So glad you liked the video Bernhard 🙏
Beautiful vids Matts, making me feel homesick :-), thanks for sharing them. You've probably done more than any blurb from Triumph to make me change from an Explorer to a T120 and you dont even talk!
Thanks Nick, glad to have pushed you towards a less practical but better looking bike 😁
@@ClassicRides I'm not sure about that :-) the Explorers are great but its tall, it weighs a shit load more (ok, I live in Australia and the term shit load is a metric unit) than a T120 and I'm not getting any younger.
@@nicktanner4860 all fair points Nick 😁
I thought beddgelert campsite had closed down! Thanks for sharing this. Another good site is Nantcol Waterfalls, not far from Shell Island. When I get my confidence up on my t100 that’s where I’ll be heading.
I think it just changed owners from the Forestry Commission, still a great campsite though. I hadn't heard of Nantcol Waterfalls, will have to check it out, although there's already too many great camping spots I want to get to this year.
That used to be the Forestry Commision campsite for years just up the road from Beddgelert.
It's now one of these CentreParks type thing.
We used to ride there every February to camp from Scotland !! It's called The Rhino, cause you need thick skin in Feb !! 👍
It’s still a great campsite in my opinion, apart from the midges! You’re harder than me that’s for sure, I wouldn’t fancy riding that far then camping in February 😁
Very enjoyed your videos. I often go to Walse and it looks very nice.
So glad you enjoyed my video and Wales!
@@ClassicRides Very hard work on that video editing, I guess.
@@bikeuktour I am still learning so it's always hard :D
Great part 2 !! Ace !
Glad you liked it dude!
@@ClassicRides you’re living the life I dream of!! Motorbikes and camping, 2 of the best things ever!! In fact, here’s a recommendation for you, Hafod Hall camping (it’s a wild campsite) the roads there are wonderful. Would be a perfect spot to ride and camp. It’s in Denbigh 👍🏻
I'll add it to my list dude!
@@ClassicRides 👍🏻
Bike nature a fire and pizza at end of day perfect
Will be hard to top that combo for future videos for sure 😁
another great video mate. Well done
Thank you Uncle Longbeard, I think you found some much better roads than I did. I’ll have to steal your routes!
@@ClassicRides you're more than welcome to do that. You'll find the maps and names of the places in those longer detailed numbered videos. Talking about cool places - 3:08 is brilliant, where is that?
@@UncleLongbeard I shall scour your videos for cool places to ride! That little road at 3.08 is the road that leads to Shell Island Campsite, it's tidal so floods over pretty often. It's good fun watching the cars queue up waiting for the water to go down and seeing if anyone's brave enough to go before the road is totally above water.
@@ClassicRides Ok, thanks, really close to one of the hidden gems I found. Next time there try the shortest road possible from Harley to Lake Bychan. Beware it's quite difficult road with gates
@@UncleLongbeard ill certainly give it a go. Thanks!
Looks like a pretty good life to me
It wasn’t a bad trip! 😁
Hey Matt, lovely video as always. Thanks again for the inspiration. Please tell me, which saddle bags you have used on this trip.
Hi Florian, these were a pair of Kriega bags, can’t remember the exact name of them though.
Loving ur laid back vibe awesome vlogs. Quick question what’s that portable fire pit u use looks really good 👍
Thanks Andy, glad you like them. I don’t know the name of the fire pit, it’s just a generic one sold on Amazon. They’re about £20 but well worth it I think.
Hi, great video as always thank you. Can I ask who supplies the fire table, brilliant but of kit it seems. Regards.
Thanks Owen, glad you liked it. There should be a link to the fire pit in the description, or if the link doesn’t work anymore a quick search on Amazon for “camping fire pit” should bring it up. There’s lots of people selling them for about £15-ish.
Great videos, very relaxing to watch. Can I ask about the tan leather gloves you are wearing in many of your recent rides? What brand are they and do you recommend them?
They’re Helstons Condors. For me, they fit my hand shape the best out of all the gloves I’ve tried so far, and while they’re quite light, they’re also waterproof so they’re a good all season glove. The only problem I’ve had is on one glove the velcro wrist strap ripped off as it’s only glued on. But I just just cut the straps off both gloves and it really hasn’t made much difference to them, so I’d recommend them with that in mind.
Nice video, but did I see your helmet unfastened on the approach to Beddgelert !!?? Naughty!😂
Wondered if someone would spot that 😂. I don’t ride with it unfastened normally, must have been having a dim moment 😁
@@ClassicRides Been there done that! Keep em coming fella they are good viewing!
Hi Matt, I'm interested in your easy setup tent. I've looked all over north america, but can't find a supplier, and yo point me in the right direction in the UK. Love your vids, they get me thru the long winters here in north western BC Canada......Jim
Hi Jim, it's from Decathlon so if you have a look online I'm sure you'll find it, it's called the Two Seconds Easy Tent 👍🏻
You just earned a sub 😊 is there any ocean camping?
Yes, in part 1 of this video I camped by the sea, or as close as you can realistically get in the uk. Thanks for the sub!
All very professional....love it....your tent look great....wonder what make it is.
I would love an old school black plate like you have on your T120 on my near new T100....do you not get bothered by the police with it.
Your bike looks stunning....I altered my rear plate to be more vertical like yours....did you mod that yourself.
Nick from Cheshire....rode up the Llanberis pass 2 days ago.
Hi Nick, thanks for the nice comments, glad you enjoyed the video.
I’ve never had any issues with the plod and my numberplate, obviously it’s very illegal so it’s a risk putting it on. My personal opinion is that you’ll only really get stopped if you give the police a proper reason to pull you over, which I try not to do.
I altered the whole rear of my bike, so nothing’s original, the angle of the plate just happens to sit that way though because it’s connected to the brake light housing and it’s the only way it all fits together. Acts like a mudguard extender though so I quite like it like that.
@@ClassicRides Great thanks for getting back to me....all noted.....those black plates look great....I have a 1969 BSA....of course it has black silver plates.
Love your vids....keep up the good work.
Maravilhoso isso....👍🍻👊
👊
Great video! Just an advice.. The moto sound is better than the music 👌
Glad you liked the video Mohamed 👊
Great video!! what tent is that you are using?
Thanks, it’s a Two Second Tent from Decathlon.
Such a great looking bike and good vibes!
A question: do you carry wood for fire with you or..?
Thanks! I usually look specifically for campsites that allow campfires as it's becoming rare that UK campsites will let you have a fire, but I've found the sites that allow them usually sell firewood too. In fact more often than not you're not allowed to bring your own wood or gather it yourself I think due to pollution rules over moisture content on wood for burning.
We stayed at Shell Island a couple of years ago too.
Don't see what all the fuss is about. I thought it was a bit of a dump as far as campsites go in Snowdonia.
Much nicer ones with better views.
I’m inclined to agree with you 😁
Great editing. What kind of jacket is that btw?
Thanks Neil, the jacket is a Belstaff Tourmaster Pro.
Did you recorded all videos alone? Again a great job!
Thanks Flávio, yes I record the videos on my own, I prefer riding on my own and all the stopping and starting would be too annoying for other people 😁
@@ClassicRides I always did drive with my friends, but lately I have been drive alone and I'm liking.
Beautiful video mate. What brand is your tent?
Hi Andy, it’s a Decathlon Two Second Tent.
@@ClassicRides Thanks for the info mate. I ride 1200 GSA and Harley Sporster.
Fantastic video again 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. What tripod do you use in the videos? Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Jorge, it’s just a little Manfrotto travel tripod, not sure exactly which one. I’ll find out and put a link in the description for you.
@@ClassicRides Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻, I was seeing in the video description on the Amazon links that you have this: GoPro 3-Way 2.0 (Tripod/Grip/Arm) - Official GoPro Accessory www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B092RK7H4C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_34F9MR2DKBBWWJD3G7M9 What exactly do you use this product for? Thanks for your help 👏🏻👏🏻
It's really just for hand holding a GoPro and it gives a good amount of extra length if I need it. I also have an articulated mount that I can use to clamp it onto the bike, though I haven't used it for those type of shots yet.
@@ClassicRides Ok, Thanks 👍🏻
Superb vid! What’s the tent buddy?
Thanks, it’s a Decathlon Two Second Tent 👌
@@ClassicRides wow just watching the vids they look awesome and great value. Is that the 2 or 3 person one.
@@bencluroe4183 It's a the two person one, just big enough for one person really.
@@ClassicRides that’s the one I’ll go for me + bike gear and luggage. 🤙🏼.
Thanks
I'm looking for a windshield very much like yours for my bonneville. Is it working well? Now and then i need to go on the higway and its not that comfortable for longer periods of time with no windshield.
Have to be honest, the screen looks amazing and I wouldn’t change it for anything; but it doesn’t really do anything for wind deflection.
@@ClassicRides Ok thanks for the info, might get something a little bigger than.
What camera do you use its so stable ?
Hi Nathan, I use a few different cameras for on or off the bike filming, but everything I use is listed in the description with links 🙂
Is that a pole free tent? Interested ?? I’m going on a trip soon on my 900 and my tent weighs a heck of a lot
The poles are already set up inside the tent, so to put it up all you have to do is pull a cord at either end of the tent. The only downside is doesn't pack down that small and it weighs about 5.5kg. For me, I think it's still worth it though, it's a great tent.
Which tent do you use ? It looks easy to set it up.
It’s a Two Second Tent from Decathlon. It’s just two pull cords and it’s up, personally it’s just what I want after a long day riding, faffing about with poles isn’t for me 😁
@@ClassicRides Thanks for reply. Thats what I thought. I never did moto-camping but I do fancy to do one. I will consider it to buy. Btw your video are so good. Really like them. When I was in India, I used to have Royal Enfield too (Bullet 350cc). They are really good bikes.
Well I’m glad you like the videos. I travelled a little bit in India and I think riding an RE in Indian is maybe the most Indian thing anyone could ever do!
Hi,Saddle bag kirega duo 36??kirega duo 28??
Hi Ahmet, yes it’s the 36 version.
what tent are you using?
It’s a Two Second Tent from Decathlon.
How do your knees feel in that position? Any experience riding laidback cruisers where you can compare the two?
Personally I find it a very comfortable bike, my knees cramp up a bit after a few hours but I think that’d be the same for any bike. I have ridden cruisers before and I’d say it’s possibly not quite as ‘armchair’ comfortable, but it’s still very good for long rides.
@@ClassicRides Awesome! Thanks for that feedback. I've been really loving the look and features of this T120 and I'd say it's my #1 in terms of my first motorcycle. I used to ride a 1979 Vespa with 150cc
@@ClassicRides also wanted to call out I love your videos! Appreciate the work you put into them, it's very relaxing and inspiring, especially the camping. That tent looks so awesome, what kind is it?
Thanks, I’m glad you like the videos. The tent is from Decathlon, there should be a link in the description so you can check it out. It’s not as small as some to pack away, but it’s very easy to put up which for me was important, after a long day riding I don’t want to have too much hassle putting up a tent.
What make is the tent and does it have a inner skin
Hi Dave, yes it’s a double skin tent so there’s an inner that’s separate from the outer shell. It’s the first time I used the tent on this trip and I was very impressed. It’s a Two Second Tent from Decathlon, the one in the video is the ‘Black and Fresh’ version which has a black-out interior.
@@ClassicRides thanks
Привет! Ты когда ни то забывал камеру , которая снимала твой отъезд с места отдыха??
No! It was too expensive to forget it 😆
Good one dude…let me know if you would be interested in a collaboration..I am from the NW too 🤠
Hey dude, I’m not planning on doing any collabs soon, but maybe at some point in the future for sure. 👊
Like the video but all that faffing and gear you have to lug around. I'd rather travel light, enjoy the sights and riding then spend the night in a cosy b&b with a comfy bed and hot shower.
Fair enough! I've been camping since I was a kid so I don't really see it as a faff, but I'm also partial to a good B&B also!
Why would you put a vintage plate on a new bike ? Or a tank rack. Go buy a proper Triumph. :-)
By “a proper Triumph” I assume you mean one of the old, badly made, unreliable ones?
