Hollow Knight - Pure Vessel Guide [Radiant, Charms Tips]

- The Pure Vessel on Radiant difficulty is no joke and believed to be the third hardest boss among all other radiant bosses in Hollow Knight, right after Absolute Radiance and Markoth*. Defeating and mastering this boss was the most enjoyable for me. The fight has it all: the pace/tempo/intensity, many opportunities to attack the boss (some coming at a risk), several phases with new attacks, etc., etc. I just enjoy that fight!
This guide will show you how to beat Pure Vessel hitless as quickly and safely as possible, covering all his attacks in various video-speeds, such that it would be easier to identify them (attacks) during your tries. After watching this guide, you will know how to react and dodge PV’s attacks the most efficient way (in my opinion). Also, the video includes my two fights with Radiant Pure Vessel where one is safe, with almost no risky moves, and the one with some rng-based actions, lasting roughly 35 seconds.
Moreover, the guide proposes specific charms to equip, but it is up to you which ones to use. The guide works with whatever charms you want. The only exception is that if you are not using Sharp Shadow and Sprintmaster charm, I would recommend not to attack him or immediately shadow dash towards him, when he uses Shining Daggers, since otherwise the window to dodge the probable upcoming Triple Slash may be very small.
Furthermore, as the fight using this guide, in general, will take less time than one with jumping after almost every attack, you will have fewer opportunities to make a mistake, but I recommend to try both and see which one works best for you! P.S: Radiant difficulty increases PV’s health by 15,625% (from 1600 to 1850), and you die in one hit.
P.S.S: Recommended charms: Sharp Shadow, Dashmaster, Sprintmaster, Dreamshield, Dream Wielder, Nailmaster’s Glory, Fragile/Unbreakable Strength (optional). Other upgrades: Pure Nail, all masks, all soul vessels.

Some useful/interesting info and tips:
+ For controller users. I heard that using nail arts with default settings is quite hard. I found a solution in Reddit. ObliviousM suggests mapping LB also to attack during combat, making your right thumb free for jumping while charging nail arts with a left finger. Hope this helps.
+ Charms interactions: Fragile/Unbreakable Strength does not increase the damage of Dreamshield/Sharp Shadow, while it is written that both these charms do 1x nail damage. Probably they both do spell damage which is equivalent to 1x nail damage, since e.g. during NKG Flamespawner attack you can damage him with either Dreamshield or Sharp Shadow while he is immune to nail damage.
+ If you want to be extra safe, you should not use simple nail attacks (use only nail arts). Such tactics will provide a larger window to move away from him after each attack, and consequently, it should be easier to shadow dash trough him.

- The only downside of the strategy is that very rarely if you shadow dash through him with Sharp Shadow being too far from where he starts his Lunge or Triple Slash, and it is the last attack before stagger, you can end inside him for death. It happens only once among all my tries. Most likely he will stagger when you use Cyclone Slash. Also, to minimize the likelihood of such an event when you are dashing through him hold a button to move in a direction you are dashing.

Don’t be upset if you make mistakes during the fight (especially, being caught by Void Tendrils attack). It takes quite a time to get used to all his movements. Be patient and be ready for his next attack!

Replayed the entire campaign and I must say I underused nail arts on my first playthrough, damn they’re fancy!!! I got addicted to cyclone slash and now that I see this I’m super excited to try out cyclone on the spikes attack, awesome strategy dude!!!
This boss is a pain in my brain and I know why now: he hits me, I get antsy and I m' not... ready for his next attack and when he chains 3 attacks in less than 5 sec and you lose 6 masks, well that's when my brain starts to melt. Also you manage to play around and charge your attacks at the same time, must be habit, one I haven't cultivated, it might take some time getting used to. I really want to beat all the godmaster challenges, but I wonder if that will ever happen...
I've actually beaten this pure vessel on radiant in the hall of gods by now, Can't believe I managed to get that far. Now I have a new nemesis one that defeat all my rationale to it's very extinction. his name is... grey prince zote with 4 bindings... I can't believe they even allowed this thing to exist.

Tip: Dont dash AWAY from him when he does his triple slash, there is a very high chance of him still hitting you, and it was one of my biggest mistakes when i first fought him
I managed to beat Radiant Pure Vessel with some spells mixed into my normal nail attacks whenever I deem it possible to--generally during the focus attack he does in the second phase. Managed to do it without being overcharmed as well. He is easily one of the most fun bosses to fight on radiant difficulty in my opinion. In fact, I felt so proud of myself that I went and challenged the Pantheon of the Knight one more time and finally managed to beat it thanks to that motivation!
Edit: Generally, I had trouble with dodging his triple slash via shade dashing as I often got hit in the attempt and that'd surely mean a lot of deaths had I been on radiant when doing said strat. Because of that, I began to just start proactively jumping throughout the fight as I find my smol knight boi is a touch too slow to dodge it with the timing I have on the attack. It's the strat I used for dealing with that attack since it was generally the one that screwed me over most. Maybe it's not the best, but it worked for me.

The fight is quite balanced (almost no rng) with a nice learning curve. I remember that feeling after beating him for the first time, hehe.
Jumping is definitely an option to avoid his Triple Slash attack. With jumping, it might be even easier to avoid Void Tendrils but the fight will be slightly longer.
This Channel is so underrated. This guy helps so much and is so nice.

I beat ascended difficulty no hit and I can't do it again for radiant lmao
oh man, it took me probably 300 tries to do it on radiant, and it's possible I damaged my heart because of it; I kid you not, ever since that fight, I have had some serious heart issues for about a month and a half; the fight where I got him, my heart was beating so hard, I thought it was going to bore a hole in my chest... I have the fight recorded on my channel, but never did I think it was possible to down him in 35 seconds... that's just insane... the point at which he adds the void tendrils is the hardest imo, cause you're so used to the knives, and you try to dash through, but you hit the tendrils.
@@Snoopi25 Admittedly, I had trouble with the tendrils in the last phase, but I got used to it and just began to pogo the jerk. xD
Having just beat the Pure Vessel for the first time after watching your video, I wanted to comment and say how brilliant I thought the analysis was and how I wouldn't have been able to do it without you so thank you!
I started off with your build but ended up tweaking it a bit to suit my playstyle more so I thought I'd just share my experience in case anyone else is in a similar boat to me, especially since many PlayStation+ players like myself are just about getting to this point in the game.
I wasn't really a fan of the dream shield, I'm a little more aggressive as a player and I thought that whilst it can do some decent damage the slots could be utilised a bit better so I swapped out the Dream Shield and Dream Wielder. I also found the Sprintmaster to be more of a hinderance because I kept over shooting movements because I wasn't used to it. So instead I used Mark of Pride and Quick Slash. This allowed me to get some very quick extra attacks in from a better range, which was especially effective against the Shiny Daggers attack, if you dash toward him you can get 3 or 4 hits off quickly doing big damage.
Thanks again for the vid, the Nail Master's Glory and Sharp Shadow combo, plus your movement tips really are the MVP.

I'm a fan of Nail Arts. I think they are quite underrated. But yea, having Mark of Pride and Quick Slash equipped is definitely another quite efficient option!
What would you recommend for the pantheon of hallownest?
I'm ab xbox user and sadly you cant bind 2 buttons to do the same thing:(
You don’t need a map in hall of the gods so just bind it to LB. It takes some getting used to, not being able to use X to attack, but once you learn to use LB instead it lets you use nailarts on controller which simply wasn’t practically before since charging a nail art takes away your ability to jump. Or you could bind jump to a shoulder button

I just think if I can beat him at Radiant difficulty he will be no problem when it comes to Pantheon of Hallownight or Pantheon of the Knight.
thanks very much for the guide, the thing i am still having problem with Diving Light Lances, I am using a different set up and my main problem since the begining was this attack, i watched your guide in hope that i would find a solution to this attack, sadly its still the same with me, for some reason it is either i do it fine or i don't have enough time to escape them as they are way to fast sometimes unlike grim or radiance similar attack, if i make sure i deal with attack i will be able to finish this fight :/
You can try to dash away from Diving Lances and locate yourself in a safe spot between them after (but this way you will miss some damage).
Also, note that if you are using Sprintmaster or Sprintmaster+Dashmaster, it will give more time to react to this attack.
Keep practising, and you will eventually beat him :)

what gives you more damage, dreamshield plus dream wielder or dreamshield plus grimmchild?
When Dreamshield is used together with Dream Wielder, it makes the shield 15% larger and will regenerate quicker. Also, Dreamshield deals 1x Nail damage when colliding with an enemy.
Grimmchild (last phase) deals 11 damage per shot while Pure Nail (last upgrade) deal 21 damage per hit.
Thus, if you follow the suggested strategy with dashing through the boss, the Dreamshield + Dream Wielder will provide more damage than Dreamshield + Grimmchild.

@@crystalturtle yes im aware of those numbers however you forget one important thing, grimmchild attacks him super often, id say on average it hits him about 3 times before you get a dreamshield hit off, plus its ranged and since he is so big it actually hits him almost every time, also you dont have to do anything for it to hit, the thing is you still have the dreamshield anyway, it only makes a difference if you are constantly in his face to proc it super quickly, so im not so sure

I only miss 3 radiants : absrad sly and orotomato, all 3 are hard ssf
Be ready that Absolute Radiance (better call it Absolute Patience :) will take quite a time to master.

i can constantly beat him with only taking ONE SINLE damage but with this ONE damage i couldnt get him on radiant and its fking killing me😭😭

slash once or twice then back away USE STRENGTH, MARK OF PRIDE AND QUICK SLASH the 2 slot charm thats left is on your opinion but i like soul catcher when he does his little cyclone attack he can swing again since he takes alot of ragdoll hit him onec then dash away 99% of time you will be ok
The sly guide is on my list, but I'm not sure when it will be finished :( For now, I'm doing a guide on Radiant Traitor Lord.
However, I have Radiant Sly Speedkill video. It's definitely not the safest strategy, but you can still try to implement some moves from there :)

this is extremely hard i have beaten nkg radiant in less then an hour its honestly not that bad but pure vessel hurts
PV takes more time to practise for sure. Keep calm and consistent, and you will eventually defeat him. GL :)
I absolutely hate buffed bosses.
Taking 2 damage from one hit isn't fun. It's just annoying bullshit.
Searching the entire game to max out my health, only to fight a boss that kills me in 5 hits, completely undermines all the effort I put into this game.
If you're trying for a no-hit run, then a buffed boss is good.
But if you're like me and want to test your skill, and not play a BULLET HELL, then this just ruins the game for me.

Cheating? How do you have 14 charm notches? Maximum is 11
He doesn't. If you count, he has 11 charm notches, and is overcharmed. That's why the last 2 of the 13 notches you see are purple.
Overcharming also doubles the damage you take. And on radiant difficulty where you die in one hit anyway, there is an advantage to overcharming. Granted, I didn't do so in my radiant fights with Sisters of Battle, NKG and Pure Vessel, but it's certainly a good idea, all things considered. I may do it myself if I ever dare to do Radiant Markoth.
